no more free water at Hanks

Why did your friend Larry (Lassiter ;)) have to pay for a bottle of water yesterday when he asked for a GLASS of water with his food and today this guy gets a free glass of water??? Hank must not like Larry too much, eh???

Maniac (thinking poor 'ol Hank must be stressing himself out over this water situation)

Good catch. Two different people running the counter. I think they are confused. By the way Hank is seldom there on week ends.

I dont know why me and 4800 other people like this silly thread but I cant keep my eye off it. I guess I just wait to see what Ted has to say. Water is the last thing he's ordering.

I would gladly pay for tap water if it was ran through a good filtering system.

This just in!

Besides charging for parking, apparently Hank will install pay toilets and urinals later this week. House cues will rent for $2 an hour!

The nerve of this man!

I would guess that if they gave free water for a long time, and that has switched, they probably have to do it from a financial standpoint. Given that reasoning, I wouldn't complain too much. If it was just something to increase already substantial profits, then that would be a different case, but I highly doubt that is the situation.

Actually it is the law in AZ that you are required to give someone off the street water for free. That came about because a homeless guy got refused water at a bar in Kingman in the summer and went out and croaked in the heat, according to the liquor licensing people at the liquor classes you get forced to take there.

however the law does not state you have to allow them to sit inside and drink it while enjoying free AC and cable tv. You can give them a plastic cup full of wretched PHX tap water and tell them to gtfo if they are not spending money. Or you can tell them "there's a hose on the back of the building in the alley" like one bar owner in the hood used to say.

Thanks for the heads on on the real AZ Law.

There's also a chalk fee, and a higher table rate for playing in the air conditioned section.

Hank's going to be rich.

The water ain't free but the advertising is!

Before this thread came along I had NEVER heard of Hanks pool room. I know realize that this guy is a marketing genius. He has received so much free exposure for his place that if I ever get near his place it's a must stop for me!! Hat's off to Hank!!

Sorry, I have to say something about that...this is the one that burns me up (nothing personally directed at you for this)...to have the audacity to walk into an establishment that SELLS drinks (for as little as $1) with your own drink is beyond me!!!

That's like walking into Aplebee's with a McDonald's bag and expect to be seated in their restaurant while you eat your Big Mac!!! These are things people shouldn't be rude enough to do...

Just my opinion...

I quickly scanned through ALL the posts on this thread and I too am baffled. Your other post showed that it had not been edited, and I couldn't find the quoted statement on anyone elses posts. It's like it popped-up out of thin air. Can a quote be manipulated like that to where another person could "put words" into another persons mouth (no accusations here JAMSGOLF, just need some kind of explanation)??? That's kinda spooky.

Maybe HANK's will become a Club MEMBER! Maybe!

Considering the interest in this thread, maybe somebody can invent a cue with a hollow butt so one can fill it with water to bring into this place. Or maybe a fake "camel pack" cue case that you could bring up to a gallon in with you! These guys would probably buy it too, they'd spend 100 to not have to buy $1 water.

200th Post, and still going strong.

Good for them.

Unfortunately, a lot of 'players' like to think a pool hall is a free public service/hangout like the public library or a bus stop. It isn't, it is a business.

As an example, try going to the movie theater sometime and hanging around for 8-12 hours...then ask them to give you free drinks because you 'paid for the movie ticket (table time) already!' ;)
I was once in a pool room in NY. I asked the guy at the counter when the place got busy, there was no one in the place at the time. He said they had new owners and business was off since they took over. As I was leaving a notice a sign over the door. It read:

"IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO, DON'T DO IT HERE"

As we left my wife and I just looked at each other and laughed. Imagine an owner actually telling customers they were not welcome. I know customers are little more the $ signs to most owners but to actually come out and say it.

For the past several years I've only been playing once a week. I don't eat fast food, drink soda, or alcohol, although my playing partner likes a few drinks during play. I'll have a bottled water.

The room that we play in, Corner Pocket in Fort Lauderdale, has a couple of great owners who know how to treat and keep customers. We spend, including tips, about $75 each time we're there. Often they'll offer a drink on the house, set out free snacks, and occasionally send out for a pizza.

I'll go there many times rather than play for free on my buddy's new Diamond.

Life's a two way street.

John, if you reading this thread, I'll see you later tonight.

Yes. When you click the "QUOTE" button to reply, the quoted post is shown. It can then be edited in any fashion (e.g. -- as I did to your post here -- shortened to show only the part to which you are referring), including totally changing the original poster's words. So "quotes" are not always quotes.
