no more free water at Hanks

Yes. When you click the "QUOTE" button to reply, the quoted post is shown. It can then be edited in any fashion (e.g. -- as I did to your post here -- shortened to show only the part to which you are referring), including totally changing the original poster's words. So "quotes" are not always quotes.

Though its good form to put the term "edit" in there, if you have actually edited the material being quoted.

I realize this doesn't always happen, and some may not even realize that they should.... but they should. A quote is a quote until someone changes it. (Unless you're in politics, and then all bets are off.)

If you just want to quote a portion of what someone said, there is no need to insert the word "edit." Instead, just put ellipses (strings of three dots) before and after the quoted portion; this is standard practice to indicate the intentional omission of a portion of what the quoted person said.

absolutely not!

I quickly scanned through ALL the posts on this thread and I too am baffled. Your other post showed that it had not been edited, and I couldn't find the quoted statement on anyone elses posts. It's like it popped-up out of thin air. Can a quote be manipulated like that to where another person could "put words" into another persons mouth making them sound like a jackass or a moron or totally lacking in couth? ?? That's kinda spooky, real spooky actually.

Maniac

Nope, you can't modify quotes, or quoted e-mails or PM's, can't modify timestamps and other things either.

This thread has finally gotten good in the last ten posts or so. :)

I used to play pool with an older guy who said that he hadn't had a drink of water in 25 years...His reason was that he didn't like the way it tasted.

Maybe if he would shell out a buck for some crisp, clean Ozarka, he might change his tune. :p

when it comes to water . . .

When it comes to water I always thought William Claude Dukenfield had a good point, something about the fishes.

Before this thread came along I had NEVER heard of Hanks pool room. I know realize that this guy is a marketing genius. He has received so much free exposure for his place that if I ever get near his place it's a must stop for me!! Hat's off to Hank!!

Hank is a great guy and he understands what it takes to keep his doors open. He's from Puerto Rico, and been in Denver for...I'm guessing 40yrs.

For those who lack the gumption to look up the quote, it goes something like this:

"I don't drink water because fish f*ck in it."

-WCD

Nice one, Hu! :)

This thread's gone to the fish (unless someone edits my post and makes me say something else ;))!!!

Maniac (I think)

Hank grew up on an island surrrounded by BIG FISH ;0, and when he was a young man in Denver, he was one of the top ten bar table players, he Understands the Denver pool player mindset better than most.

I have been to Hanks about 15 times in the last 20 years and have never met or even seen him. I am afraid I don't get down to Denver as much as I would like.

Hank I'm thirsty -- Customer

I got some beautiful cold bottles of water, sterilized for your health -- Hank

Thanks Hank keep the change -- Customer

Hank thinks to himself, I hated to do it but I got to keep those doors open, I remember the good days when I could afford to give away those cold pitchers but a mans got to do what a mans got to do.

Life goes on happily ever after and Hank's continues to provide a wonderful pool experience.

The End

Hate to say it but if I owed a pool room I would highly encourage people to eat and drink. Maybe the whole free pool from open to 6pm with a $10 purchase of food or drink.

I know a ton of players that dont drink anything but water and the dont spend any money other than pool time. Asking a $1 for a bottle of water is pretty reasonable and if the owner sells a 100 of them all week he'll be able to pay the water bill for 2 weeks....
