Just glad to still be alive..Motorhome VS Geno

I still can't believe that this happened. It's been like a bad dream for about 5 days now.

Trying to play pool isn't even a thought. Too much pain everywhere. I can't even tell where it hurts the most.

The good news is I'm trying to quit the percocet today. Still alot of pain but those pills are really bad for your health. I'm breaking out here and there on my body and I'm sure it's from them.

Today was the first day I actually could sleep some. I finally feel a little more normal because of the sleep.

I hope many people read this thread and don't make the bad decision that I made. I thought I was safe because the tires were still on but when it's jacked up about 1 1/2 feet higher than normal and the whole thing goes tiiimmmmbbbbeeeerrrrrrrrr the whole body almost touches the ground.

I learned a big lesson. Had I known what I know now this would never have happened. Fortuanately I had the opportunity to learn here from my mistake. So many other people were not so fortuanate.

As far as pool goes I don't know yet. My shoulder, chest, ribs all seem to not fit together real good right now. I even have trouble brushing my teeth but I'm alive. I was going to play in thesew great tournys down in Beloit,Wi the next 2 weekends but I can say for sure that it won't happen.

I just hope I can get back to work and keep rolling with my teaching and traveling around the country. If i can do that I guess it would be huge.

Just have to see how it plays out here. Moving slow but I'm moving. Breathing careful but I'm breathing. It only hurts right now when I breath or move. :crying::rotflmao1:

My plans are going to be set back a week or 2 for sure. But I still plan on getting on the road again traveling from pool hall to pool hall teaching and playing again but I have a change of heart though about this motorhome business.

I need to work real hard as soon as I can and get sell the motorhome I have right now. I need to buy one that is newer and bigger and is more like a home. Plus I need one that has built in hydrolic jacks that work.

Where there is a will there is a way and that is one thing i still have is a will.

And if i have anything to say about this whole thing my plans WILL still happen.

Thanks everyone for the kind words here on the forum. I see players all the time wishing players to get well and recover from this or that. It really does mean alot when your on this end of the stick to hear that you guys care.

Thanks again geno..........

As my old buddy Terry J. used to say, "We're all gonna die some day, but there's no reason to speed it up!" I'm glad you're on the road to recovery Geno. TAKE YOUR TIME! Don't rush it, let your body heal even if it takes months! I doubt the healing process will go as fast you think. Just ask our buddy Terry Ardeno. Take the Winter off and get well. Pool will be there when you come back.

Us pool players are impatient...

I plan on trying to work some time this week. I quit the pills today. What a taste of reality. I found out just how much the pills were helping. But I'm past the part where if I even hiccup I go to my knees. Now i need to suck it up.

Get real tired real fast but got to keep pushing. If you don't use it you lose it. Got to keep the muscles that are working , working. Just lay there and we all turn to musch.

I'm appreciating everything a little bit more though. Amazing how we take so many things for granted.

Thanks Jay.

I can walk and talk..........

hey geno, another free lesson:smile:
glad your ok peace out

Hi there,

I was thinking about starting a new thread on here where the players I'm teaching over the phone can share the value with everyone about what they learned.

Right now they are kind of sporadic and all over the place. It would be kind of nice if they were all in one spot and could kind of share between each other what they learned.

Need to see how I feel. Right now it's even kind of hard to use the computer.

I've helped about 15 players in the last 2 weeks. If I made an offer to everyone it would be kind of crazy busy so I need to make sure I can hold up.

Give me a call. 715-563-8712 Talk to you soon. Geno..........

Your welcome Gene. LISTEN to your body! You are the best judge of how far to push it right now. All I'm saying is don't overdo it. You are still healing and you will be for a long time. Take your time my man. There is no need to try to rush the healing process. In fact that can be a big mistake, a good way to hurt yourself again. I'm sure you're going to be fine, AFTER you fully recover!

No Geno, I'm not a doctor, but I come from a family of doctors (father, uncle, brother, all M.D.'s) and I can't tell you how many times I heard this same advice given to people who had been in an accident. Take it for what it's worth.

Right now I don't have to worry to much about pushing too hard because there is no push to pop. But I'm heeding your words.

Even with the MRI they told me that there is no knowing how much damage is done. I know this that nothing hardly feels like it's in the right place.

The main thing is I'm controling my blood sugar real good right now. I'm doing it with diet only. Some excersize but that is limited right now. This will help me heal as quick as possible.

I was riding the bike about 10 miles a day and working out with the weights every other day so I was getting in pretty good shape when this happened. I hope that was a plus.

Your asvice is good. I don't want to get hurt again for sure. I've had it up to here, hurting that is for right now.

thanks again Geno.............

Cinder blocks

You're very fortunate. As I read your story I grit my teeth as I read two things. Trying to jack up the front and back of that monster 30 feet apart, and mostly, when I read two words that should never be used in the same sentence, namely jack and cement block.

Thank God you are ok, and just in general, never ever use cement blocks to jack up cars or trucks, and wow .... motorhomes. They crumble like clumps of grated cheese, all at once with no warning!

I am the self appointed safety officer when my boys work on the ranch for my little bro who us handy but very white collar if you know what I mean. Jacking up a heavy trailer to slime the tire my lil bro says go get that cinder block to use as a stand. He was trying to be safe. I said hell no it could break! Brand new cinder block exploded when weight was put on it. Big brother was right again!! This is how we learn. We all laughed as we were ready for the crash. Wood blocks always and chock the wheels, always chock the wheels.

Hi there and thanks,

We have come to the conclueion that the only safe way to jack this thing up is not to do it. The frame goes down through the center and rach beam is only about 3 feet apart. This is why when I was jacking up the left side that the right side came off the jack stand already in place. As soon as it came off the right side it was over.

The wheels were still on but being jacked up about 1 1/2 feet higher game it alot of downward momentum. My hip is black and blue from the bumper coming down on it. But the real damage was from this wide metal loop that is attached to the frame about 1 1/2 feet in from the bumper.

I was to the left of this metal but as it tipped this lined right up with my side and ribs with my arms up over my head working the jack. We measured this and when the bumper is one foot from the ground, where it had to get to bruise my hip, that metal is only 6 inches from the ground.

The good thing is that as soon as I got squished it bounced back up. I couldn't imagine being pinned like that.

I think about these people plnned in earthquakes, tornadoes or vehichles like I was and have a whole new insight.

The power is unbelievable when your the recipient. It's unreal.

It might have made the difference chocking the wheels.

I guess I'll never know.

But I know this for sure. It will never happen again to me.

I will never get under anything again for the rest of my LUCKY TO BE ALIVE LIFE>

Thanks geno............

Gene,
I'm having trouble imagining how this motorhome came down on top of you. Do you think you could make us a video so we can check it out? Don't send any pics of the black and blue hips. :D

Me too....................

And I was there?

I'm working on some pictures...........

My nephew is taking some pictures. this will show why I thought I was safe.

It is hard to understand without an illustration.

Bottom line though if you are under something big there's no telling what can happen when your underneath it and it falls.

I hope my talking about this might just might make someone think twice before getting under any type of vehichle.

Could save a life.

And i could have swore i was safe.

The guy under the motorhome for the pictures won't be me:eek::yikes::p

Thanks for the compliment.............

Good thing that rv wasn't using your system, or it wouldn't have missed :O

Hi there again my friend,

Good Luck with Irene. I hope her aim is off a little for yourself and your family and friends.

What do motorhomes and hurricanes have in common?

If your in the way or where you shouldn't be the force can be more than anyone could ever imagine.

After getting squished like I did and If I lived in the way of that storm I can guarantee I'd be gone.

You can control your environment but you can't control circumstances.

I'm going to try and live by that from now on.

Good Luck...............Geno........

Glad your Ok my friend

Sounds like it was a close one. Sure miss talking with you on Wed nites at shooters. Don't know if you heard but Tollefeson is back in town and shooting at all the Tourney's. Lose you and get another world beater. Sheesh!!!
Also
I'm about to pull the trigger on some air bags for my 09 32 ft Winnie. I've got hyd. auto levelers Supposed to help the ride among other things. You may be able to use air bags to help the leaf springs and shocks and also pump it up MAX at the campground to help the rock n roll. I'm going with Air lift out of MI. Lifetime warranty. Give them a call and talk to Tech support. About 250.00 for fronts and about that for the rears depending on year. Plus 200.00-400.00 for a air compressor. Online prices. This may save you the costs of at least the leaf springs. The install is a DIY but I'm betting you'll never be underneath a MH again.
From what I'm seeing best shocks are Koni but they are spendy.
Might take you up on a lesson again. PM me if you have any questions. Get well!!!!

Hi Tom,

The thing i miss the most is the friends like yourself. But I have a plan like i said and I'm just in the first stage right now.

This motorhome thing has been quite a setback but I'll be OK it's just going to take some time. I feel pretty busted up right now. Each day is pretty painful.

As far as Scotty there is nothing more that I would love than to compete in those weekly tournys back home and i consider Minneapolis my home for sure.

Thanks for all the great info for that motorhome. I've decided to sell this one and get one in around the 20,000 to 30,000 range. I'll have more time to make the money with my rehab from the accident. It looks right now like I won't be playing for awhile. It's not even a maybe but i will heal up for sure.

I'm down to about 175 right now. I quit taking the pills for diabetes and I'm controling it with diet only. i figure if i get down to about 165 to 170 I should be good to go. Then i should be able to make it through a big tourny for 2 or 3 days. I'm keeping the blood suger right around 100 to 120. And that's a good thing.

Can't wait to pop back in there if not to play just to say hi to everyone again.

Thanks for the post here. Talk to you later.

Geno......

Doing much better............

I now have 3 spots that are sore. One in the front. One big spot one the side of the rib cage and the back where the ribs connect there.

As usual many of the posters were right. i just have to wait it out with the pain pills and do the best I can.

I did go one day about 4 days ago to try and play some pool. I could shoot soft but no power at all.

It still feels like it will never heal up but I know it will. Can't wait until I can start working out a little and get back into pool shooting shape.

Just want to say thanks for everyone that has participated in the Perfect Aim phone lessons. it's given me something constructive to do while I'm recouping.

I'll be going back to work I hope in about a week.

Again thanks everyone for all the kind words and keeping me busy.

Update on injury.......

Good thing that rv wasn't using your system, or it wouldn't have missed :O

I finally slept for 8 hours with only one interuption from waking up. Still can only take 1/2 of a breath without pain. But the pain now is half what it was. I can handle that for sure.

Went to Sharks billiards tonight. just had to see the damage control. I was pleasantly surprised that besides not being able to break it was almost like I never quit.

One thing is for sure. giving so many phone lessons really kept my mind in focus on the aiming. I think when any player quits for awhile and starts back up it's important to focus on doing all the right things that you know how to do. Aiming included.

It sure was nice to get down on the shots and just know how to get it right. When I did miss it wasn't because the aim was off but something else.

My shoulder has really gotten weak. Had surgery on it about 18 months ago and the muscles have really deminished. That side is where most of the damage was done. I only played for about 15 minutes. I know I need to start doing all the shoulder excersizes that I did during rehab to strengthen all those small muscles and there are alot of them.

I think I'm going to be just fine. Up until 2 weeks ago i felt like I would never play again.

Thanks again to all the players that replied to this with all the great advice and support.

I want to wish everyone on AZ Good Health and be careful with your body. It's the only one you got.

Thanks again geno.............

Thanks alot there and to everyone else that gave me support during one of the most terrible times in my life.

It's been 3 1/2 months I think and I can finally do what I love to do more than anything else other than teach. And that is to play.

Been at it for about a week :joyful: and can't wait to get back on the road again.

Glad to say there was a happy ending to this little tradgedy.

Thanks again geno.................:thumbup2:
