Ah, but did you use your left hand to open the left door.
Because then, you would have had to turn around and go back thru the door again, which would have been the right door and then use your left hand.
If you didn't do that, then you did it wrong. See, the left door is the right and the right is the left. It all depends on which direction in which you are going. So you think that you went thru the left door and in reality, you went thru the right door. You have to be really OCD to understand doors Buddy and from your post, I don't think you really have it down just yet.

I am a lone maverick. That's why I always run around and try all the doors to find out which ones are unlocked. The other day at the movies I did this and found myself locked outside in a fenced-in area. I climbed the fence and ran clear around to the front to tell my wife I found another way out. She was impatiently waiting by the car and clearly unimpressed by my trailblazing manner.

My wife thinks it's a waste of time to always run around trying all the doors when someone was thoughtful enough to post arrows pointing to the nearest exits.

It is ingrained in these parts, for sure. However, to use your example, 90% of those that went through the left hand door probably did so because they had no choice - how do you change lane in a crowd? They are impotent rather than sheep. One leader and a couple of convincing herders at the front is all you need to create movements - it's easily done.

Forums are fascinating places. I think our resident sociology professor could do some worthwhile research on the paradigm of messageboards.
 
Getting back to the whole door thing, you ever really think about how that whole ladies first thing got started? I always figured it was something like this: The cave man gets back to his cave and recalls the last time he was gone all day a big assed cave bear had moved in, "Go ahead honey, I'll hold the door for you!"

With that being said, learning some of the stuff others have already figured out can shortcut a lot of tedious trial and error.

I have to admit whenever I see a 20 year old kid inked up with tribal stuff and giant hoops in his/her ears to show his/her individuality I think of this very same phrase.

Kind of like outlaw bikers joining clubs with rules, bylaws and mandatory meetings.

Actually how door swings is view from the inside. As someone that installed card access systems, I know my doors and how they swing.

Funny you are concerned with the how I opened the door which really doesn't matter. That the door was opened is all that matters.

You must be a herd follower, errr, system guy.

Most doors leading to the outside swing to the outside, it's fire code I believe. The only exterior door I've seen go the other way is at my vet, to keep scared pets from pushing their way out into the parking lot.

Actually, I was just explaining how a person with severe OCD would do it.

What I do in situations like that, whether there is a stampede to get out of a building or a long line in a parking lot.

I simply sit down and relax for 5 or 10 minutes. I let the hereford cows leave and then get up and walk or drive out, all alone.

I guess I am not a herd follower. I am a lone Maverick by nature.
