Cannabis, pool and life

Hi fellow AZers. I just wanted to share a story with you and hopefully save a few people's lifes and mental health.

I was under the impression that weed was helping me with my game and other areas of my life. My concentration and ability to deal with the pressure was way better whilst high. Well, that may be true for me and other players but it comes with a price!

I decided to start playing sober and clean my life up. But with in a few days of quitting I started have SEVERE anxiety and panic attacks. It's been about a week and a half since I stopped and I am continuing to go through this. However, I am feeling better slowly but surely. I never thought cannabis aftermath would be ANYTHING like this and I'm not alone. This very common for people to go through after smoking for long periods of time. I've smoked for 7 years now daily in small increments.

To anyone on here considering smoking weed to help their game--don't! To anyone on here who does use weed for their game or is just a daily habit--stop NOW! Trust me. Depending on how long you have smoked pot for will affect your detox symptoms and period of recovery time. Most reports say 30 days and you'll be good. You will overcome it and eventually get better. It's not worth it just to win a game or to simply get high.

My mom and dad have always said to me - Deal with life on lifes terms. And I will no honor that statement, get better and live my life again. And I hope you can do the same.

Best Regards,
Ken

You infer there were negatives but you fail to specify.

You're f%^#(ing hi right now, aren't you?

Glad to hear you are taking charge of your life.

I quit pot a few years back after 40 years of pretty much constant use (a few spotty years of putting it down interspersed). Before I quit I would guess I had 5 years of pretty much being stoned all day, day in and day out, and when I put it completely down the only side effect I encountered was some things I used to think were very interesting now seemed just a little less bright and shiny.

So maybe its a matter of different strokes for different folks, but in my experience, pot is really not very addictive and carries very few side effects.

Good luck with your sobriety.

Thanks

kevin

Am not high right now... I posted this because I know of a lot of pool players who smoke. I was just trying to be helpful. That's all. Have this thread removed if it offends you. Sorry.

I've smoked pot on and off my entire long life. I've never had a negative experience whether starting, stopping, or in between.

No...your moment can stay.

I don't offend so easily.

Be confident in your choices. You only make them for yourself, based on your own criteria.

My pee is clean and yours will soon be too!

Get a prescription for Chlonidine. (Non narcotic)
It will help with your withdrawal symptoms.
You should be over the twitches well before 30 days.

Kevin;

Congrats on your decision.

Now perhaps would be a good time to have a talk with your kitty cat who has obviously found your old stash. :D

because we're all very different on the inside, chemicals affect people in different ways.

for example, i used to know some folks that kept a box of cocaine in their closet. on the weekends they'd snort a little and put it away until the next weekend.

on the other hand, i used to know some folks that would spend every single day digging pennies out of their car seats and couches just to get high "one more time"

its the same with weed, alcohol or even chocolate, caffiene and nicotine for some people. once hooked, some cant live without it, but some can walk away as if it meant nothing.

an important point to make here is "know yourself".

Be glad you didn't quit cigarettes. I've smoked pot off and on (off when required for work or other reasons) and never found quitting difficult. I prefer not to quit, but if I have to it's slightly more than "uncomfortable" for a few weeks.

Quitting cigarettes is a downright *****. I quit smoking about 2 years ago and I'd say it took a good 12 months before I stopped thinking about it every goddamn day.

Usually pot causes anxiety (paranoia) - not the other way around. It's possible you have mild anxiety probs naturally and it's possible that by smoking (self-medicating), those symptoms were covered up for some time.

Based on national news and press releases from the UN, it's only a matter of time before marijuana becomes legal and controlled/taxed similarly to alcohol.

Some of you guys are being harsh with Ken. If any of you drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, you're causing far more hard to your body.

I can pull up similar charts on death-rates, over-doses, cancer risks, etc.

Back during prohibition, alcohol was more illegal than marijuana. Yet today, alcohol is a multi-billion dollar industry. As everything in life comes full circle, the same will be said with marijuana.

So, it's always good to not be a hypocrite. Don't knock Ken because he admitted to smoking pot like you're holier than thou....while you chug down beers, whiskey shots or smoke cigarettes. People walk around California, Nevada, Colorado and a number of other states with medical marijuana cards smoking their bud. I heard they hand out medical cards to ANYONE who wants them. Like I said--- it's a "p-hair" away from full legalization and taxation.

I quit a few years ago because I am not crazy about smoking now that I am getting old (I am 45). I haven't noticed much of a difference. It is good not putting smoke in your lungs, and not shelling out $300 an ounce for the good stuff. I am fine just drinking a few beers, which I also did when I smoked.

...I was under the impression that weed was helping me with my game...

I knew several people who felt the same way. There were more than a few guys who felt like they had to smoke before playing pool. They uh... well, let's just say I was always happy to seem them at the pool room back in my college days when money was tight. They played at least a ball worse when high, but what's worse is that their skill at matching up fell completely off the chart.

The guys with the white ring inside their nostrils were different animals altogether.

SWIM says if you don't quit invest in a good vaporizer and quit breathing all of that tar and crap you get burning it..... Water vapor is much better on the old lungs. No tar or carcinogens in water vapor, just the good stuff.

ahhh. a guy that knows SWIM:D

I was a pothead for 25 years. Had to quit due to random drug testing. Been clean for about 7 years. Would really like to be able to partake again. Now for the pain relief primarily, but wouldn't kick the high out of bed either:smile:
