Cardio for burning calories... Weights for torching fat.
Thanks to everyone for the advice and support.
I actually did train people for a while years ago. I spent 16 years in the gym and the first 5 years, I had 2 different trainers, best move I made. I wish I would have done that with pool-I'd be a much better player today If that was the case.
I enjoy the positive atmosphere of the gym, its lacking in pool. Pool is negative compared to the gym. I wish that people in pool had the attitude of people in the gym.
I went again today and it was very humbling, I'm so weak compared to before I got sick. But thats ok-at least i'm there!! and can move!!!! I never was real strong anyways. I was the weakest big guy in the gym. Just my muscle type. It dont matter to me how much weight i'm moving, it just feels good to be back.
I did 40 mins of cardio as well, longer than I planned on, I was on the treadmill and wasnt paying attention to the time, it felt so good to be able to be there(not home trapped in bed) I lost track of the time. I feel good now 2.5 hours later.
My best friend in the gym died in Feb or March, I made a thread on him here I think, man I was devastated by his passing. All my workouts are dedicated to him, he taught me so much during the 10 years we trained together. He was a trainer, sometimes I'd cover for him and train his clients as a favor once in a while. Its a very rewarding feeling to help someone. That's what pool is missing, action is why. Ya cant have it both ways,
best and thanks
Fatboy
Good luck with your training...Hopefully I'll get back into it soon...I use to be proud of my six pack...not so proud of the keg..lol...All the years i did workout I just read a article where I've been doing things backward..We use to always do cardio 1st to get th blood going then hit the weights but come to find out..you should do just stretching & stuff then do weight...then finish with cardio for best results..Guess goes to show you that there's always a better way & room for improvement...take care buddy...Troy
Troy then next month they will print the opposite in the same bodybuilding magazine, have u ever notice, how u will read ,do this dont do that, then all of a sudden, the next magazine will tell u different,i believe as long as u r in the gym doing something ,there is no wrong and right,as long as you know how to train the rite way with out getting hurt!
Wow weird thing today it was 7am Sunday morning and Jay Cutler TXT me, thats early for him. And while this thread is going, it was the "After the O" txt we do every year. I met Jay back in 03, he moved to Vegas and didnt really know lots of ppl. I trained with Frank Hillebrand(My best friend who passed away in Feb) and a Very Prominent Plastic's Dr. in Vegas. Of Course Jay knew who Frank was and he started talking to Fank, Jay was bigger and better even back then but showed Frank more respect than one might think. A week later I was alone in the gym and JAy and I were working out close by and he started talking to me, been friends since.
Here is the strongest thing ever, I took my mom to a BB show NPC Nationals or something perhaps in 2003-before she got cancer, Jay was there just signing, I introduced them and they got the rap going, my mom could talk to anyone. Moving forwards after her cancer got so bad her voice box was removed, she was reading the news paper and saw Jay's pic with Ronnie in it. She asked me(in writting her voice was gone) if that was the same Jay. "Yup mom it is". I cant remember if Jay wins or takes 2nd that year 04. I left him a voice mail telling him my mom was dieing of cancer soon and about the news paper article she asked me about. Six days after the "O" Jay is at my mom's house and did a private guest pose for her, for long as she wanted. He was in peak condition and cancelled photo shoots to go see my mom. That was the greatest gift I ever received from a friend. I forever will beholden to Jay for that. That's how Jay rolls. I have offered many things, favors anything to reciprocate and Jay is cool with it. Forever I will always be there for him should he ever call.
Yeah Anthony Clark(I couldnt remember), Great guy spoke to him 3 times over the years. I'll save that story for later. I have a cool story about watching him warm up.
One week in the books at the gym, i feel great, had a bit of a flu bug on/off which has happened when I first start back to the gym after a lay-off. I thinks the stress to my body compermises my immune system a bit for a few days, its happened many times. I'm fine now.
Ok so on to pool, I trained this week real light, no forced reps or drop sets. Just went to failure with 8-12 rep's depending on muscle, less on lats more on delts etc etc. Its not like I'm in a rut with my training, I did cardio everyday, felt great. heart felt great, I did 40 mins on my longest day 20 on the first day. Oh yeah pool. I took yesterday off cause I didnt feel good, I'm off the gym today and am going to play tonite. I dont feel too sore to play, if anything I feel better and while my touch wont be there my head will. Sometimes being in the mood to rally play helps my concentration.
I think going to the gym is the best move for my pool game, but only one week in the books its a bit earily to see how its going to end up.
My Docs in Germany told me years ago "Go to the gym when you feel ready"; problem is I hurt too bad to go to the gym up to 12 weeks ago, I built up my strength over the past 12 weeks to get started now. Thats the story there. Swimming hurts like hell. I sink like a rock in water b/c my body fat % isnt that high, but i'm buoyant enuff that it takes some pressure off my lumbar region of my spine and that hurts(i know thats the oppsite of 99.45346344% of most people), so no swimming for me, unless i can stand in a pool. thats it. Swimming laps/excerosing in a pool hurts like hell after a short time.

Little known fact....Weight training is "cardio". Any exercise you do is cardio(eg works your heart). And to "torch fat" you need to burn calories.
As someone was mentioning, p90x is a very good workout. I am in my third round now on the 7th week and it is a very good program. You can also start out with the original p90 workout. It is a 6 day a week program that starts out 35 minutes a day for the first 45 days and steps it up to 45 minutes a day after that. I am 6 ft 6 in and started with this program last February with a friend that is 6 ft 11 in. I went from 243 down to 208 and abs the first 90 days and my friend went from 452 to below 400 lbs. I went on to the p90x which is alot more time consuming and dropped down to 197 lbs, layed off until I starting slowing down with business this year and started the 3rd round 8 weeks ago. The p90x is an hour and fifteen minutes per day including the ab ripper DVD and a whopping hour and a half on yoga day. If you have any interest in the p90 DVDs to get started shoot me a pm and I can send you a couple of copies. 35 minutes a day and it is a fat burner if you eat right during the whole time although the dieting is the most difficult part definitely.
Your friend is 6' 11" and weighs 400lbs? Holy shit!
Eric you must of been dieting pretty good since last years dcc,to have ur body fat not high,it looked to be pretty high in that video shot by cali red at last years dcc(woofing in the hall)that hot dog you were woofing down had no chance, lol,it look like u were hurring up so no one ask for a bite, just kidding Eric,i think that is a great idea to deit down before you start working out again.
Yes... and even more so if you move from set to set with no rest in between. The more muscle you have, the higher your matabolism will be and the more calories you will burn even at rest. 1 pound of muscle uses more calories per day than one pound of fat does. So lets all get up and make some muskels. Same with my dog...
Awesome story about Jay. He has always stuck me as someone who lives life to his fullest. It's also nice to hear he does.I've always had mad respect for those who are that dedicated at anything. They are high on life.
Regarding training, one thing i've always noticed that constant exercise does is restore or generate self confidence. Personally i've always felt that the confidence gained can also help other aspects of your life(including your pool game).
Good to hear you are back.
I think that is related to a prior discussion in this thread. Hiring someone who knows exactly what you are shooting for will cut your goal timing down remarkably. Even pro's have trainers and dietitians for a reason.
not that anyone really cares, I have zero fat on my legs, glutes. 99.454532% of my body fat is in my belly and C-cup titsI have man boobs my whole life. Never got gyno on the roids(thank god-or I would be a circus freak now).
I have weight trained 5 times and gained 11 pounds 239-251.1(muscle memory) I havent been eating much either. And eating REAL clean. Been doing cardio too.
I'm gonnna end up 270-280 if I keep weight training, I havent even trained heavy. This is real real bad, I lost around 30 pounds of muscle and gained 35ish pounds of fat over the past 5 years. I could add that 35 pounds of muscle back fast and look like hell and crush my heart with a body weight of 270-280.
so what i'm doing is lots of cardio and minimal weights until the fat drops, If I just do cardio i'll burn of what muscle I have left, so I need some resistance training to keep the muscle I have and lose the fat. Muscle burns before fat(The most difficult thing in BBing to get big and lean). The word lean and my name have never been used in the same sentence LOL. Unless the word "not" is in that sentence.
Just before my back went out I was out of the gym for 8 months while my moms cancerwas finishing up, i had a car accident that kept me out of the gym. I started the gym at 245-a much better 245 than I am now, I blew up to 268 with 4 abs(the biggest I ever got), I have one pic of that. I never did get pics of me at 240-245 in my best condition(I'll never look like that again.) I have 2 hernias(inoperable) so i'll always have a fat round stomach, time takes its toll so all I can do is the best with what I have, that holds true for all of us in pool, gym, work, education, life. I dont deserve a free pass-but I hate the body O was born with. I like my brain but a different body would be nice, my back has hurt for years, i have had to struggle with weight gain since I was 5 years old. Even my pee pee....well never mind. I aint Tony Watson :O
I feel great, back still hurts some, but no worse than the past few months.
I'm gonna keep the cardio up, and i'm getting in the mood to play. There is a BarBox at the tattoo shop, I was there the other night getting some work done and hit balls for 15 minutes, i missed 3 balls with a flat tip and no chalk. I felt solid and fluid, I'm gonna play some this week but Gym is top priority, I like cardio so its not a pain in the ass for me. I like getting big better but I must burn the fat off first then it will get fun after a couple months of 80% cardio/20% resistance training. When I can focus on getting big thats when the fun begins, I'm not going to try and get as big as I was, I'm 44 those days are over. But I an focus on quality muscle and symmetry(making the overll look of my body look its best, making the ratio of muscle groups the correct size to look the best) for example Arnold years ago when he competed weighed 215-220 but because he had small bone structure and nice full muscle bodies he looked amazing. You can only go so far with this, its genetically limited, kinda like natural talent in pool. If you got it and work hard your on the Mosconi Cup, if you dont have "it" you just become a solid player. My arms are way too skinny for my body size 18 58" i best they ever got, which at 200 pounds is a good bicept at 260 its too skinny I needed 21" arms. But I cant get them there no matter what. there are many similarities in pool/body building.
By the Derby I'll be inshape, instead of getting ready to play pool and be instroke for the Derby, my goal is to look good there, LOL well the best I can look, which aint all that.
Oh yeah the "Fatboy Challenge" will be at the Derby this year(but until its formally announced by Jay no sign-ups etc), I owed Jay a apology and Greg as well, over something that I was out of line on last year. I was under lots of stress and went off on Jay, I apologized to him now right here in public and In private months ago.
Sadly I still aint made a dollar since May 08, so its the same thing as before-i'm adding $5,000. Soon as I start making $$$ again things will grow. for now like I told Greg; "Fatboy" brand is on life support. Soon as Eric makes $$$ things WILL happen. Were making a couple small changes this year, but its still 16 players. We did discuss some other stuff for future events, which will be largely dependent on Jay, Greg Sillivan(diamond Tables) and to a lesser extent Fatboy. Thank those 2 guys, not me.
Jay I hope yu read this and I'm sorry for going off last year. It was 100% out of line and my fault. Also The reason I disappeared right after that was the flu, Shannon was kind enuff to drive in to Louisville for my meds and JA and Shawn Putnam brought me food to the room(Ice Cream), I didnt leave the room from Tuesday(?) nite until Sunday morning. I was in the room 1005 of the time, I was too sick to leave the room. I was shaking from the chills so bad I had a filling fall out of my tooth. I dont know who won the Fatboy Challenge last year. I was not ducking you by not being there. I'm telling you this in public and you can ask JA, Shawn or Shannon/Marge how sick I was. I'm sincerly sorry for what I said and did. Sometimes in life you empty both barrels on the ones you love or are closest too-thats what happened here, no excuses. I hope you accept my apology, and we can put it in the past 100%. If you cant I respect that and will suffer the concinquences. I cant recall ever going off like that on anyone before in pool or out of pool. Thats not how I roll. Stress is all I can think that would make me act out like that. I was under the most stress I can ever remember at that point and I snapped. I give you my word that aint ever gonna happen again, hell-it never happened in my life that I can recall.
Someday I'll post a thread on the whole "Fatboy" thing. Why I have done what I have and what i'd like to do in the future. I will say this and I know some ppl will not believe me, my goal at the end of the day is to put $$ in players pockets. period. Its not a ego trip for me. Sure its fun to be known by lots of people(my fans, and haters:smile
but thats not what drives me. I want to see players-guys/girls I dont know make $$$ for playing good. A real profession, I have taken shots at becoming the best I could for years at a time and I just dont have it to be a champion, maybe I would be if I had Stan Shuffet when I was 12-when I hit my first ball, who knows or cares. Since I have had a taste of how hard it is to play ata level good enuff to earn a living and guys who can give me the 5-out and the pop make $32,500/year is just rediclous. I want to see players make respectable $$$. The $5,000 I add every year is a joke-Like I said i'm on life support. When I'm back in the chips again(and I will be) then "Fatboy" will mean something to the players. Thats my goal and motivation(short version).
ok writing practice is over for the day!!, thats getting much better too
always on the improve
