CW was the promoter of the Korea Vs Japan event. I was not talking about the MC.
CCW (Chia Ching Wu) has represented Taiwan and China..and I wouldn't say a word if he got citizenship here and were to play on Team USA. That said, I don't agree with CW being team captain and cast my vote for Scooter.
That's cause those countries are all but going to war over who gets him. You can't even compare those two players, imo.
Scooter would be a GREAT choice for captain. Super entertaining and the rail could get some action.

CW was selected by Matchroom Sport after two of the three members of Team USA chose him to be their candidate. IOW, the two of the three members Team USA do not have the authority to make him Captain; Matchroom Sport does.
As far as I know, the 'captain' is a coach, correct? he doesn't play, that being said, be mature, accept that his competitive spirit and respect for his 'players' supercedes some conspiracy theory you guys are concocting. Do you freak out when a coach of a college football team went to a different university? what about Klinsmann coaching the US soccer team? Good lord did you hear that Mike Ditka played and coached for the bears? I bet he made sure the saints never beat the bears... (except in 1997 of course). Not just him, but lots of players seem to be wherever it's convenient for them to be from.
He just goes where he can get some publicity he'll claim he's from both and it's sad we couldn't choose one of our qualified players who wont claim they are from USA, and then somewhere else when an event comes up.

Obama is a very poor analogy. Can't remember a time when Obama has run back to his country seeking to run for an office there.
my opinion if this is true, then he should not be the USA coach or even a player on the USA team.........if his afiliation is elswhere......

For something like the mosconi cup, you should only be able to be on the team of the country in which you are residing in most often...
If it is truly Europe versus the US, then only those players playing and living in Europe should be playing on team Europe.
Only those residing in the US should be able to play for the US.
If Europeans are only playing pocket billiards in the US for the most part, then they are as good as they are because they are competing in America.
As shitty as pocket billiards is in America, they still all end up coming here if they're any good. Why is that???
My opinion is that aside from the Phillipines, America is the best for competition based experience.
So is it right for team Europe to be comprised of players primarily playing in the US??? Living in the US ???

Now I could understand requiring European citizenship as well as residency, but that would be like me claiming I'm from Ireland originally so I should be able to play on team Europe.

Just off the top of me head, with no research: I believe that if a player is born in one country, but becomes a citizen of another, they are "dual qualified" as far as most sports events are concerned, including the Olympics. So, *as long as* CW is an American citizen, presuming his birth in Korea, it should not be a big deal.
Having said that, we are, here in the USA, a bit more jingoistic about these kinds of things -- not that the geniuses at Matchroom would have figured any of that out.

According the post that I originally spoke of in this thread, Matchroom made a list of possible coaches and then presented that list to the players and allowed them to choose the coach. Matchroom gave the players choices outside of CW, the players chose CW to be on the team, not Matchroom.
