Well… I'm going to take it on the chin again and run the "AZB Cue of the Year " thread for 2011. I think we all enjoyed last year's thread even though there was some debating going on. Please… let's stick to these simple rules:

1. Cue has to have been made in 2011
2. Cue should be owned, or at least one time owned by an AZB member
3. AZB Cuemakers can post 1 cue they made in 2011 for entry
4. A picture of the cue must be posted in this thread by Dec 15th, 2011
5. Let's keep this positive and fun!

After all entries are posted in this thread I will narrow it down to the top 25 and start the polling.

With all the great cases that have come out this year, I certainly believe an "AZB Case of the Year" thread is in order, so I will start a thread for that as well.

I will get this thread started with this cue…

Sugartree Buckeye Burl Cue (previously Eric's Crisp's personal cue)

Hightower Celtic Cue

Here is a Hightower Custom Cue we made this year.
It is made with African Wenge wood
with over 750 inlays in the butt. The inlays make
an intricate Celtic knot work design.
The center piece is a silver Celtic knot design wrapped
around ivory and abalone diamonds, with ivory Celtic ring
work on each end. Then there are twelve ivory Celtic knot
points going out, six in each direction. The points are
surrounded with hundreds of silver inlays. The joint
and butt plate are ivory also.

NOTE: The pictures came out pretty large. If someone wants to post them back up smaller feel free to do so.
Here is a link with smaller pictures:

The buttsleeve of the cue is amboyna burl with mitered veneer ebony windows and elforyn windows. the cue is inlayed with elforyn and abalone too.

That's a beauty. I guess Eric didn't play with it very long if it was made in 2011.

-----------

I'll nominate a couple of cues.

Next up I nominate Jimmyrayk's Herringbone Handled Gina:

Lastly, I nominate any of Ernie's 4 Cathedral cues (wish there were more better pics, but the work on these cues is just sick) Honestly, I saw these cues at Ernie's shop in January just before completion and thought to myself "It's only January and it's already been decided - cue of the year is a 4-way tie between these". Maybe Bill or Kevin have more pics they can share.:

This is just great. Even though I've seen most of these cues throughout the year its great seeing them together and I'm sure there are many more to come. Thanks to Jamie for this thread and thanks to all who are posting!!!!

"The Armageddon Cue"

"The Armageddon Cue" was built at the Esoteric Cue Shop by Rick Geschrey and the 3D Artwork was performed by Artist Ken Simonsen in 2011.

It features imagery of the perfectly aligned stonework windows with asymmetrical joints associated with Mexico’s Chichen Itza Pyramid architecture and is replete with Mayan glyphs and other tongue-in-cheek symbols heralding "the end of the world" on the winter solstice 2012. The art medium is airbrush fine-tuned with a sable hair liner brush (and steady hand).

The entire cue is fully cored and built on a 29" dowel with an Ebony forearm and butt with 30 sterling silver stitch rings in 5 positions. Ken's art imagery was rendered within the simple, 3 point, 3 veneer geometry of the forearm.

IMG_3799.jpg

All details of this cue were hand painted with a sable hair liner brush in Ken's capable hands. All 3D shading where done with an air brush.

The Four Skulled Horseman of the Apocalypse

Death by nuclear fall out from the evil within man's ability to destroy the planet.
IMG_3805.jpg

The perfectly aligned stone work with asymmetrical joints are a feature of the architectural reality of the Chichen Itza Pyramid in Mexico. This detail is depicted in the art seen here.
