Archer says Charlie Williams is in, AZ forums are wrong

Matchroom let the US players pick their captain.
4 of the 5 players belong to the ABP.
Most believe CW is the voice behind the ABP.

IMO it's a slap in the face of all the others that should have been on that list and the US fans...if there even was a list. Johnnyt

I didn't read the whole article, but Johnny is playing politics and standing up for his guy. This is not out of the ordinary. I don't think anyone of these forums will know with 100% certanty why CW was chosen. However if we look at the facts of the situation (4 of the 5 being ABP members as stated before) it is highly possible that CW got that job because of his connections and not his resume. If that is true (which it probably is) Johnny can't come out and say it because it will discredit CW and smear the ABP.
 
I assure you that there was a list of candidates which WAS compiled by Matchroom.
But after discussion some names were eliminated leaving Charlie and one other Matchroom pick.

At this point JA, SVB and RM were consulted and they made the choice between the final two.

So Charlie was selected by Matchroom and endorsed by the three players and subsequently by Mike Dechaine.
 
Being that Archer is with dragon promotions now and prolly had some say as to who the captain is... Perhaps Johnny and CW are using this event to promote dragon somehow.

Bottom line is: this mosconi cup just sucks. It really does. I'm am extremely disappointed and disgusted. I hope the USA team gets pulverized. And they prolly will...
 
Is this supposed to endear the public? We're all wrong? The promoters, TDs, and sponsors are all wrong? Only the ABP is right? Even your posters are blatant lies, and yet, you speak only the truth?

Perhaps I'm not sophisticated enough to understand your logic.

But why was CW even put on the list by Matchroom? Me see's a partnership with Dragon/Matchroom putting on a tournamnt in the near future...probably in Asia where Dragon has the juice. Johnnyt

PS: I'm going to think/hope that the voting went like this. JA=yes RM=yes SVB=no. 2 out of three gets CW in.

Good reply. I don't approve of the things he has been accused of at all but I don't know if he is guilty or not either. But it is a little hard for JA to be objective in this case.

In any case, I hope overall this doesn't effect the team negatively in their performance.

Personally I would have licked to see Buddy Hall, Lou Butera, Keith McCready or Kim Davenport as a coach.

I think the biggest shock with this whole issue is that many fans of this sport and many promotors have been both aware and vocal about the politics in pool being a negtive influence that is keeping this sport down for YEARS. We have been saying "enough of the bullcrap, enough of the backdoor dealings, this stuff is NOT helping". And then after years of us making that very clear this move by matchroom sports, that is SO very clearly political and a dealing with the ABP, which is clearly tied at the hip with Dragon Promotions and who is aiming to control the professionals of the sport and thus the sport itself.

My REAL reaction to this was "WTF, really Matchroom? Do you not pay attention to the state of this sport AT ALL and what the true fans of this sport have been saying?" I just could not believe that Matchroom would do the one thing, pick the one captain that was so very clearly a political and unpopular choice and the one guy that more then anyone else in the world that is trying to forcibly take over this sport and control it by having the professionals in his back pocket and be able to call boycotts on any event at a whim when they do not toe the line and do EXACTLY as he says.

This is my main thing, I am just in shock that matchroom could be THIS dense to give Charlie Williams THIS much power and in effect advocate Charlie's actions over the past many years.

Wide of the mark again on both counts.

Matchroom do not need any of Charlie's juice, they have enough of their own high octane stuff.

It says a lot for their impartiality when Dragon are their only peers in the proper TV game, they still consider Mister Williams worthy of a spot in one of their premier events purely on his ability to do the job.

One the second situation - it was 3-0.

Your 2nd and 3rd paragraps could be viewed as contradictory, and only time will tell.

Re: the vote count...that is every bit as surprising as JA's support of CW. An amount equal to zero.

Thank you for the kind words, much appreciated. I only post infrequently but every post that I make is a gem because I am trying to eradicate biased opinions that are not supported by facts.

Matchroom do not have to cover their backs because none of the sports that they cover - pool, snooker, darts, boxing, soccer, golf. ten pin bowling, marlin fishing, fresh water fishing, bushido etc is so individually important to them that it could not be dropped from their portfolio. In their book CW has only hearsay evidence leveled against him and has not been charged or convicted of any crime.
