Wanted/For Sale Section to Change in New Year

They should Just have a $10.00 per item selling fee. If you are listing ten cues it's $100.00to list them. No matter if they sell or not. You are paying to list them.
You have to pay to list something on E-Bay why not here.

It is just growing pains, that is all. AZB has been very successful. Management of success can be tough, too.

The "Wanted/For Sale" forum certainly has its flaws, but it is the best thing going, and most of the "issues" are managable by using some consideration and common sense.

AZB is a business, plain and simple. It has grown into a pretty big operation, I think.

Just think about it...in his post the other day, Mr Wilson said that AZB had over 34000 members. To me, that is pretty big.

Growing pains, plain and simple...funny part is that things being the way they are is what made it grow so much...

Not too feasible for the guy that makes and sells nice chalk holders that cost $10-20. Something like requiring a nominal seller's fee, sort of like club membership, per year, would attract more and be easier to manage I would think. But hey, they've made their decision and this kind of stuff has been discussed many, many times before....

I'm a little disappointed. I used to spend a bunch of time on there looking at cues. Bought a few over the years too. But I'm sure with all the whiny nits and petty thieves in the world, this was just a pain to host. Over the years I met a bunch of nice people (and one or two not so nice) on the Wanted Section. And what's up with the "cuemakers should still have a section to post". Why? Just because they are cuemakers they should get to post new cues and no one else does? Doesn't make any sense to me. Not logical. Anyway, AZ was in fact my marketing strategy over the years. Never posted anything anywhere else about my book. Hmmmm...it now makes me wonder if I should finish the next one (just trying to see if myself will buy that excuse....) Anyway. I'm sorry it came to this, but I will guarantee a few spoiled it for the many.

This forum is a community.

That community consists of lookers, trolls, cue makers, cue sellers, people selling tools cases accessories, those looking for help and information, those willing to give help and information, and a few idiots.

But it is the community that most enjoy browsing through.

WHY CHANGE IT OR MAKE MORE RULES??????

Leave it alone. It's not broken. Are you going to keep "fixing" it until it is???

I sincerely hope Jerry, et al, are watching in the background and absorbing/analyzing the current string of responses.
I couldn't be less in favor of the effect of the sweeping change laid out in the OP. I understand, and agree wholeheartedly with, the idea of selling banners to the big dogs - though I seldom pay them any heed. I don't think a lot of the AZ populous who sell new goods here and, in many cases, represent a respected & significantly popular, productive segment of our community sell at a volume/profit margin requisite to compete for advertising resources with the BCA, USAPL, APA, Iwan Simonis, etc.
A less costly annual fee structure to utilize a section dedicated to the "soft brick & mortar" segment seems like a really good idea.
I very much enjoy seeing the breadth of pool items available - new & used.

Internet Marketing is the way to go, if you know how to promote your product, where to promote it and how to drive traffic to your product site..

Who's making the decisions? The owners of AZ or those whom AZ is allowing to promote their own product line?

I think that AZ has the last word, and should not base any of their decisions on fear of loss, or threat.

When you make decsions out of fear, you bring what you fear the most upon you. It's a spiritual law..........

What Defines New?

What Defines New? If I purchase a South West cue, or any other brand for that matter (not chalked), is this considered NEW or Used since I am the second owner? I have bought a few cues on AZ over the years, and have sold a few also. I am constantly on the site checking prices, and just for the love of pool and pool cues always browsing. Also I play pool so I always check for tournaments, and live streams that I watch. So please let me know if the casual (cue seller) can sell a (non chalked) cue. Thank you!

Kevin,

With all of your responses to the recent changes, this is the reply that really resonates with me.

The "Will trade knock-off watch for a cue" threads are insulting at best, since the vast majority of those deals end up as cash deals, not actually traded for a cue.

There is NO WAY to police it either, so we're seeing more of it and that trend will continue.

So instead of putting a link to eBay, I can now list my "genuine naugahyde barstools" right here on AZ, provided I add "will trade for a piece of chalk" in the listing.

While Leon Sly can not post his latest creation here, and Martin can't sell the newest cue out of Ed Prewitt's shop, I can list a tacky piece of jewelry from the '70s (we all know those threads) under the pretense that I'm going to trade it for a cue.

Nice.

Just as long as guys are allowed to take a picture of any old thing they have lying around in the house, put "trade for pool equipment" on the thread and list it here, I'm happy.

I'd much rather look at some rejected household goods than see what Brent at BHQ has made or Martin at Superior has convinced Barrenbrugge to come up with.

Kim

you arent reading it right kim
nothings broken
it's because someone is pissed off that folks sell things here without paying the same advertising fees they pay

that's what im reading into it

read it again;)

Honestly...

I have bought a ton of DVD's from Lenny and the TAR guys off of here, as well as instructional material from many of the great teachers this forums has to offer. With these things now being barred, there's little reason to check out this section.

my 2 cents

I think the most important thing to note here is that AZ is trying to improve the Wanted/For Sale section and that any change will have supporters and detractors.
We almost whine as much as Facebook users every time they roll out changes.....

Question.....How can we take a very successful website that's almost the entire cue buying, collecting, and making community....I said almost,,,,a website that started from nothing and grew to epic proportions, in which a majority of the posts and traffic seem to be the wanted for sale section........and completely ruin it??????

ANSWER......"AZBilliards is going to be making changes to the Wanted/For Sale forum section. This section was intended to be a place for individuals to sell their personal items. When an individual got a new cue they could sell their old one on our forums. It was intended to be a service for our readers.

But it has become a section that continually bites us and the advertisers who support the very existence of AZB.

So we are going to take it back to what it was always supposed to be. ONLY individuals with used merchandise for sale will be able to post there in the New Year. No new merchandise will be able to be sold there and certainly no mass marketing will be allowed to continue.

All businesses who are currently working off of that forum should make appropriate plans. Any who are interested in continuing their presence on AZB should contact our advertising department via email: jerry@azbilliards.com"

Stay classy:thumbup:

Not that I wish fior the changes to occur, but I absolutely think people are failing to realize that this is a business for the AZB owners.

Please don't tell me you expect to be able to walk into a mall and sell items that are virtually equivalent to what the stores sell. It isn't going to happen, and if it did, then the stores would pull their business.

Many people are selling a lotta stuff here and using AZB's resourses for persnoal gain, for free.

Even if there was a feee assessed to each sale, who is to say that the AZB staff wished to track all those transactions...collect $, go after delinquents, etc...

Again, not that I am a believer in the change, but one must realize that this board is owned by a private party who has long provided- for free- a wonderful venue for sellers. Instead of saying 'thanks for the favor, to date', there's a lotta arm-crossing.

Honestly all this place needs is simple Rules of Engagement, aka basic rules for listing.

- NO non-pool items, ever
- NO threads like "Hot Deal of Day"
- In other words, Thread Title must include actual item name
- NO linking to other sites
- NO listings where item is not available here (sry Kev)
- NO superfluous posts (i.e. "PMs responded to" yeah, right)
- One daily bump/post/update by OP
- NO third party listings ("I'm selling for a friend")
- NO threads like "Contact info for Eddie Wheat"
- Tournament listings - mandatory City, State & Date in the Title!! (ONLY forum in the world that it's not a requirement!)
etc., etc.

I belong to many other Forums for a variety if interests, and they all deploy and enforce very similar rules for new Threads, esp in the FS section.

This "forum" is property of the owners and they can do with it as they please. If anyone thinks "the community" has a say in these decisions they are kidding themselves.

Like most things, this most likely came down to money. People paying for advertising called them on it and this is the most logical solution for them.

Setting up any fee based system is more work than it is worth IMO.

-Patrick

I've bought 2 cues off of cue makers (they are club members), and at least one off of what would be considered a dealer.

I guess the new policy is a win/lose situation; I will have more money, but not as many cool cues!

I really liked seeing the new cues that AZs makers offered up here, going to miss that.....
