You've mentioned a couple of times about "conflicting schedules", does Mr. Medina work or is there something else he does to be "busy"?
 
I was a big fan of watching Danny play back in the 80's so don't take this the wrong way. My opinion Danny should be the one on here posting for himself. This is 2009 and the excuse of not being able to use a computer or owning one is not much of an excuse. I've seen Chris Bartrum post that he knows very little about using them but he seems to have figured it out just fine & it's a pleasure to see what he has to say. Would be the same for Danny.

Some are just plain afraid of thenet and it's dealings and Danny, I know rel well is one of them.

I have known Danny for nearly 35 years. He is a bit quiet and a bit on the shy side with people he doesn't know. I guess I come to his defense on this because over the years I have come to know all sides of the man and he will always be like a brother to me.

Danny is not the player he was at 40 years old, but at one point in his life was feared or respected by all of them. At 57 years oldd time catches up with some more quickly than others, something many of us can atest to.

IMO some on here are crouched and ready to jump on some who are trying to help an aging player test the waters again. It hurts to see it.

This will be my final word on this subject.
 
I Was At The Same Tour. And They Had A Ring Game In The Back With Medina And Matlock And Don Mccaughey From Des Moines And Don Broke The Game..

I do understand the afraid of the internet thing. I have a small computer repair business here I do on the side and see it a lot. Either way would love to see him back in action... he was very explosive back in his day. A treat to watch. Love to see him post here as well. I hope his comeback works out. My best wishes go out to him.

His struggle to regain his position in the upper strata of pool is an epic that one must see to believe...

Aside from naysayers the haunt the efforts of anyone striving to be more than the norm...
life itself becomes the greatest adversary...

its actually quite poetic and artistically / philosophically beautiful...
no matter the time, no matter the circumstance ....
The battle is with the Self.

Wow. I just read 9 pages, 20 minutes of my life I'll never have back. I specifically advise AGAINST anyone "catching on the legend" that is Danny Medina.
One of the primary problems you had 2 YEARS AGO was not having cash to back a match... and now you're interviewing sponsors? There are kids who've saved their allowance since this thread started who could now back this action.
I haven't found a problem getting into a game at any poolroom. It's because I have the money to put into action.
You might consider changing your AZ name to IOUrider, as it appears you have either 1.) No cash, or
2.) Not enough faith to put up the cash to finance the dying dreams of a past-prime pool player.

Mr. Medina has action in Colorado Springs. I hear he snapped off that tournament last weekend against a tough field, so 7 and the breaks should be reasonable.
 
I played Danny at Colfax billiards on the big tables. I didn't miss many, but then again I wasn't at the table much. I faded the barrage for a while, but had to put up the white flag. Strong breaker and shotmaker. He played fast and loose like Rodney.

At the Derby, around 2003 or so, I was warming up on an open table and got a chance to play Danny for about an hour.

He came up to me and wanted to warm up and I said, "Sure." I guess he was still in the banks and that's what he wanted to play. So we started off shooting banks and I kinda held my own. After a while of that he wanted to shoot some 9ball, so we did that. I remember that he had a huge rifle shot sounding break and ran out pretty effortlessly. But I was still able to win a few.

At one point be broke dry but left the 9 in the jaws of the left down table corner. The 1 was just off the rail a bit up table. I'd been playing a lot of 3C about then so I played an umbrella shot to go rail first with a little inside draw sending the CB another three rails to make the 9. He looked at me for a second and asks, "Did you play that?" And I said, " Sure, it's just a 3C shot." He paused and asked, "What was your name again?"

It was kinda cool.

He lived in Denver and dam few came through even looking his direction. His break was just like thunder and he went for everything. He was one of the best shot makers ever during this period rating right up there with Stevens. His stroke wa about as level and pure as anyone who ever played the game.

Danny and I traveled together for quite a while and became the bet of friends and I have seen him some sheer miraculous things on a pool table. He was so feared because he went for everthing and subject to make anything, but, subject to scratch on anything too. But, he scrared the hell out of all of them.

When he ran those 9 racks on David Howard was the most impressive thing I ever saw him do. He was being sharked on the sidelines so disgracefully and so badly it was pathetic. It was so bad his wife was crying and I slapped the loudest one.

Two weeks later at Table Steaks in Denver on a double tough table, he ran 14 racks. Yep, I saw that too. An hour later, I ran two and told him he needed weight. We then got very drunk.

I believe the 9 rack run was in Reno vs Billy Incardona..I don't think 58 is a death sentence. Good luck Danny.............:-)
 
I watched Danny win an event over in Springfield Oregon ten or so years ago. It was a tough field with quite a few top players from the west coast. He frankly looked pretty strung out at the time as did his entourage. I hope he's taking better care of himself now. 58 can be very old depending on the life that got you there.

I don't remember that one. I so remember the 14 at table Stakes though.
No I don't think 58 is a death sentence either. But by now it is 60. I know very well as he is one month older than myself.
i am not one to put limits on anyone. I hate those who say this or that can't be done. There are realities that need to be faced though. none of us at 60 are what we were at 40 or even 50. Being ready to take up the rocking chair though can be as much a frame of mind as anything.
Danny is a proud man and can be a most stubborn one too. i hope he continues as long as he is enjoying himself. pool has been his life for a long time now.
