Hi Cashrider,
In post #37, you say that Danny said "Keith would never play me." I never knew McCready to duck anyone.
Now, you say that Danny susequently beat Earl Strickland 6 times in a row???
Most of the top, elite pros never lose that many matches in a row, let alone that many in a row to the same person. Jose Parica says nobody EVER beat him 4 times in a row in his life. The most he ever lost in a row to the same person was 3, and that happened when he faced SVB. I never heard about Danny's streak against Earl before. Maybe you're right, and it did happen. Usually, however, when something like that happens, the railbirds will know about it also. These two boasts seem like a little hyperbole to stir the pot that's currently cooking for a challenger...
While this has been an informative thread and you've been impeccably polite in all your responses, the above two quotes sort of have you guys walking on sand now. In other words, some credibility flags are starting to flap around in the wind just a little. That's my opinion only. Others may disagree with me strongly, I don't know.
I'm glad to see Danny back in the spotlight. I remember lots of stuff about him, and sincerely hopes he gets a nice long run of good fortune. He's had many hardships in the last 20+ years. Thanks also to you Cashrider, for acting as his liason for now. Best wishes to you as well.
PS-If Ironman vouches that Danny really whacked The Pearl 6 straight times, then I'll believe it. Lewis has lots of credibility in my book.
I appreciate that Terry. Danny and I have been good friends for over 30 years and have traveled many, many miles together.
At ibe oiu t bacj ub tge 80's he was as feared as any player on the planet for a couple of reasons. 1st, was that remarkable break. He broke as haard and loudly as anyone who has ever been The down soide was that when it was bad, it was bad. When it was good, it was real good.
2nd, Danny at one point was as good a shot m aker as anyone has ever been. He shot so incredibly straight that it scare a lot of folks.
3rd, he was so predictable. If he could seeit, 95% of the time, he was going for it. When that was good, it was scary. When it failed, well, we all know the flip side of that.
AS I said Danny and I remain good friends and always will be. Fear? I almost laugh out loud at that. Stubborn, different story. N ot many at all came through Denver back in the 80's wanting anything to do with him. A few came, and MOST got weight and still lost. The only time I ever saw him get weight was against Buddy and that was the call 8 and that didnn't last very long at all.
He played the game so good at one point that while we were on the road I would be awakened by his pacing in the wee hours of the morning. He usedd to tell me that he was playing so good that he was afraid to sleep. He was scared he would wake up and it would just go away. We talked through may sunrises about that one.
Now, as far as the Earl thing, I really don't know. I do know there was no love loss between the two and I saw Earl pull every trick in the book on Danny, only to piss him off. It backfired on Earl many times. But, consecutive wins by Danny, I just can't co-sign that one.
