Danny Medina. Champion -for-hire

If Schmidt plays Medina even I will bet a few hundred on John for sure, sorry but I think Medina cant run with John especially in a long set but we will see if there is life in the old boy.To be honest there are probably a 100 pool players who will love to play Danny even but there has to be a reason he cant find one backer.

That's why the line is so long. In case he does find a backer, everybody wants to play!

I hear a lot of talk on this thread about how great Danny Medina is.How he beat Earl......blah blah blah.

One question.

Who will Danny Medina step up and play EVEN, NOW? I'm guessing the answer is......no one. No one anyone would want to watch. TAR Match?

How many TAR matches have we seen with weight?

What happened to the "challenger"? Either they never existed or wouldn't offer up the crazy weight.

(nobody wants to see me play Shane Van Boening with the blueberry crush!)

....Well Sorta, but since you are going to be in the area,

Be Sure to give DANNY MEDINA a call while your here.

And on behalf of Mr.Medina:

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW ADDITION TO YOUR "FLEET" (family)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!!

and Safe Travels.

Hi Cashrider,

In post #37, you say that Danny said "Keith would never play me." I never knew McCready to duck anyone.

Now, you say that Danny susequently beat Earl Strickland 6 times in a row???

Most of the top, elite pros never lose that many matches in a row, let alone that many in a row to the same person. Jose Parica says nobody EVER beat him 4 times in a row in his life. The most he ever lost in a row to the same person was 3, and that happened when he faced SVB. I never heard about Danny's streak against Earl before. Maybe you're right, and it did happen. Usually, however, when something like that happens, the railbirds will know about it also. These two boasts seem like a little hyperbole to stir the pot that's currently cooking for a challenger...

While this has been an informative thread and you've been impeccably polite in all your responses, the above two quotes sort of have you guys walking on sand now. In other words, some credibility flags are starting to flap around in the wind just a little. That's my opinion only. Others may disagree with me strongly, I don't know.

I'm glad to see Danny back in the spotlight. I remember lots of stuff about him, and sincerely hopes he gets a nice long run of good fortune. He's had many hardships in the last 20+ years. Thanks also to you Cashrider, for acting as his liason for now. Best wishes to you as well.

PS-If Ironman vouches that Danny really whacked The Pearl 6 straight times, then I'll believe it. Lewis has lots of credibility in my book.

I appreciate that Terry. Danny and I have been good friends for over 30 years and have traveled many, many miles together.
At ibe oiu t bacj ub tge 80's he was as feared as any player on the planet for a couple of reasons. 1st, was that remarkable break. He broke as haard and loudly as anyone who has ever been The down soide was that when it was bad, it was bad. When it was good, it was real good.
2nd, Danny at one point was as good a shot m aker as anyone has ever been. He shot so incredibly straight that it scare a lot of folks.
3rd, he was so predictable. If he could seeit, 95% of the time, he was going for it. When that was good, it was scary. When it failed, well, we all know the flip side of that.

AS I said Danny and I remain good friends and always will be. Fear? I almost laugh out loud at that. Stubborn, different story. N ot many at all came through Denver back in the 80's wanting anything to do with him. A few came, and MOST got weight and still lost. The only time I ever saw him get weight was against Buddy and that was the call 8 and that didnn't last very long at all.

He played the game so good at one point that while we were on the road I would be awakened by his pacing in the wee hours of the morning. He usedd to tell me that he was playing so good that he was afraid to sleep. He was scared he would wake up and it would just go away. We talked through may sunrises about that one.

Now, as far as the Earl thing, I really don't know. I do know there was no love loss between the two and I saw Earl pull every trick in the book on Danny, only to piss him off. It backfired on Earl many times. But, consecutive wins by Danny, I just can't co-sign that one.

Is it just me or does this post kinda remind you of the SUPERNOVA/LARRY NEVEL THREADS?

Met him once

I was in front of the stratosphere with my dad waiting for the bus to go and play my morning match in the BCA open regular division. I think it was 2006. Anyway i was holding my case and cues and i sat down next to him , but i didn't know who he was until later. He says to me "are you a pool player kid?" and i tell him "i'm just an amateur player, here for the BCA bartable event".
He replys " so you must be pretty good then"
i say "well only on the box"
he replys "I used to play lots"
Then after that we just talked about regular stuff i think until the bus showed up. He was heading to the RIV with his lady friend. Later on my dad told me that was Danny Medina i was talking to lol. I wished i had known who he was then i could have heard a few of his old road warrior stories. pretty cool memory now that i think of it.

lets play at derby .that will give him and i time to get our ducks in a row.
danny knows im not a pushover and the same goes for him.

i respect that, he knows its a close game and he wants to play anyway.

sometimes i wish tourneys would all fade away and all the players just played each other for money.

that would be exciting

take care see you at derby

Right, there is a guy called Harriman that you seem to be ducking...

I don't think John is ducking him at all. There are some people you just don't want to give them a chance to get your money. They are generally people you think are POS and low lifes. These type of people you wouldn't give them the time of day let alone a chance at your money. I'm sure there are alot of players who won't play certain people because of this and not because they are afraid of them. I think John feels this way about Danny. I haven't met either one of these players and don't know why John feels this way about Danny but he does.

met him once myself

When I met Danny he was broke and planning to spend the night in the back seat of his car, the Malibu Hilton he called it. Broke and a thousand miles from home didn't faze him. "No big deal, any pool hall owner in the US will back me" or words very close to that. Danny had an optimism and confidence in himself and his skills that was unshakeable. The call of the road was real strong for awhile after meeting Danny, I threw his phone number away a few months later to avoid temptation.

Get a clue, until you know all the facts why don't you just shut up.

Why don't you ask your buddy Harriman why he told John there will never be a rematch after he lost last time?

Yeah, that was why:duck: :barf: :scratchhead:

I don't believe this will go off, but if it happens at DCC and they play even race to 100 ... here is my line:

Medina +33
Schmidt -40
Medina 4:1
John 1:7

I have known John and Danny both for many years. They are both a couple of the "good guys" in our sport; however I can totally see how their respective personalities and beliefs clash.

They are such a great matchup for one another - for spectators as well.

I am sorry what was it about my post that promoted this response? I just thought the advertisement was quite funny.

As for the story I can't see any honor in beating a guy getting weight and bragging about it. Tell us a story where Danny beat Buddy straight up and we can talk there.

I know Danny and I like him. He gave me some lessons once upon a time and I still use what he taught me.

However the fact that he seemingly doesn't "know" me is one of the many levels I refer to in my post that those who know Danny would find funny.

beating buddy hall, even with the 8, is huge in my book.

Why didn't Danny travel to the Derby City Classic? That would have been a prefect place for him to proclaim his challenge to the pool world and have it immediately accepted by plenty of other pool players.

I am sure that SOMEONE would have staked some kind of matchup there between Danny and some other player just to see it happen.

No better place than Derby to assert your willingness to gamble.
