Congrats Corey - that is a monster run!

Just think what you could do if you actually practiced a little bit more:thumbup:

I have always felt Corey has more potential than almost anyone out there. But greatness is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration.

Need to get Corey in a TAR match.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Isn't that like 70 balls better than his next highest run?

Bob: I think that is true. I think his previous high was something like 153 at Derby in 2009. He was one ball short of Schmidt's high run that year, if I remember correctly.

He has been at Bill's lately and has 3 other 100+ ball runs, but I don't think they had surpassed his earlier high run.

Looks like Corey is warming up for the Derby City Challenge next month.

This kid has more raw talent in his pinkie, then most people have in their entire body.

Imagine what he could do if he were inspired. Be like 2001 again.

Awesome!

Amazing run Corey!!! I was sorry to see it end like that but 229 is awesome. The first time I ever saw Corey play was in Ohio years ago on tour with my band on a day off. It was a McDermott tour stop. I was told he was 16 years old. He was matched up with Dennis Hatch and beat him 11-1. I knew he was going to be a heavy hitter after watching that set. He's come a long way since then:-). Congrats Corey!!!!

wow -- did you See that? in rack 4, he played an along-the-side of the rack break. [!] and then Again later, 3x in 16 racks!

seriously, that must be a record for number of below-the-stack break shots in one inning. since i shoot those better than side-of-the-stack, i've been thinking i should set up for more of them. and Corey shows a few good keyball setups for them.

Alex's 14.1 patterns are easy to predict in comparison!

Not bad for a *hobby-player*....LOL

thx Bill for sharing this-and also to Corey for this nice *breakfast entertaining*.
A really great run. Always enjoy to watch this young talented player. Hell of strong fundamentals- wonderful stroke.

Doesnt surprise me at all. After i ran 68 on him a couple years ago in the world 14.1 then he took it off the sheet on me.Only a couple things i noticed and disagreed with this run.1st.was just laying the balls up there without any rack or template the balls broke out amazingly and i rarely saw that he ever had any clusters.Next was the fact of taking the balls off the table and waxing them up after what seemed to be after every rack was something that creates an advantage and I personally dont agree with as neither would be allowed in any tourney.I personally would never ever look at these situations to be a high run weather its 229/311/400 or 527.Polishing the balls at the beginning only or starting out with a brand new set would be ok though. All in all though Corey is a monster player and with some lessons on patterns he could be the best.

That was awesome, thanks for sharing that Billy-Boy. and a Huge Congrats to Corey for breaking his High Run on video no less !!!

At the rate Corey was going he could of easily tacked on another 100 balls on top. He showed no signs of fatigue or strain.

I love the way corey deliberately went for more onconventional style breaks, when he had options to go for the standard ones.

Definately a heart breaker when he missed that last ball, he had made some steeper shots at earlier points of the run.

I hope Corey plays at the DCC Challenge, i am gonna put in an early bid on him to take the high run awards if he does.

Thanks Again
-Steve

Wow, I never knew Corey played 14.1 at such a high level. A little unconventional as others mentioned, but cleaner than most other 9-ball players. :)

Bob: Bill and I were watching that match between you and Corey. You certainly did have your chances in that one.

I'm not sure if it was in your match or another one, but I remember one game where Corey was enamored of side pocket break shots and he kept trying to move balls over by the side pocket, even if there was a more traditional shot already available. Bill said Corey has been experimenting around on behind the rack break shots, too. Corey also had Bill run some tapes of Schmidt and fast forward to the break shots. If he brings his usual creative focus to bear, there is no telling what he might do.

Your comment about no racks. Not sure I agree. They play that way in Europe so what is the big deal. They broke up well because he hit them pretty hard. As for cleaning the balls in the middle of the game, you do have a point. However, I would rather have a high run with cleaning on video than a higher run without cleaning not on video, but that is just me from the spectator/student view of things.

I think Bill does have somekind of a template on his table that duplicates a magic rack. For me just because he likes the pool balls clean and the balls frozen doesn't take anything away from the feat of his run. The only advantage is the balls aren't going to skid because they don't have chalk and stuff on them. Who wants to end their run with a skid because the balls are filthy? The other thing is, it's not a tournament, it's a practice run. It's funny how runs usually end either on an easy shot or when you have a small lapse in concentration and don't know exactly where the cueball is going and you get locked up with no shot. 229 is awesome!!! I don't care if the balls are sparkling clean or got mud on them, it's still 229.

Obviously, 229 is a prime number. Is this Corey's way of telling us he's still in his prime?

Actually the balls were tapped in when the cloth was new 2 years ago. This is a common practice in Europe. No template just cloth, in fact there has been so much play on the table that the balls do not rack all that tight anymore even if you use the triangle.

Makes since to me Bill. Thanks for the info. I would love to do some practice runs on your table. The tables I practice on either have slow cloth with semi forgiving pockets or faster simonis with the Ernesto BB pockets, neither being good for straight pool:-(. It is challenging to try practice runs under horrid conditions but I'm kind of over it. It's frustrating to be fighting the table when your stroke feels great and your playing well, lol. I'm almost positive I could get out of the 60's on your table the way the balls open up. That would be so fun I would be willing to pay you by the hour or whatever:-). On one of the tables at Yucaipa Billiards where I practice the balls never open up very good so I have to come with secondary 3rd and even a 4th reocurring breakshots. It's stupid tough but makes you think alot about angles and cueball control...Thanks for posting that sweet run from Corey..I miss John Schmidt!! Is he still playing? I haven't heard or seen him for a while......

Now I am afraid to open up the video. I had a virus in my computer last week that erased my harddrive. It was horrible.
