2012 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

I ran a 40 before my straight pool league match on 02/25/2012 for a new high this year. During the league match I couldn't muster more than 16 or so! :( (8-foot table disclaimer!)

Thumbs Up

Very good. Any runs over 30 on those tables are real good. Keep up the good work.

New high run of 48 (on a relatively easy 8-footer) this year on 02/28/2012. I went through the first couple of racks pretty well, but the last rack didn't break up well and had a lot of problem areas. I drew into a few balls thinking I'd have a shot, but I ended up getting stuck on them with no clear shot. I was on 42 going into the rack and definitely had a good chance of breaking 50.

Pockets were of reasonable cut, cloth fair, new balls, and a pronounced table roll.
Relatively easy only in comparison to the gaff tables we often play on.
You are playing well,congrats!

Exactly!
I am always surprised when i hear ppl talkin about their runs. It seems that some guys constantly shooting 50+, 60+, 70+ .......and i just could say *wow* ^^

I received in the last week some vids from my student- and he made each day a 10 inning try. Each day 2-3 x 40 and most of the time one bigger (50/60 or so)- but of course also those bad runs of less than 1 rack. That s just normal. A bit longer ago i told him and i really was kind of praying that he has to stop think in *high numbers* like 100. He made several 70+-90+ now. but *just* some.
But then a few later he started to shoot constantly 40-50 s more than ever.
You have to be serious to yourself- and just to learn to just enjoy and play the game. Sure it is totally necessary to set and define clearly goals for yourself-then things will be easier one day. Think positive- setting the wrong goals will cause negative thoughts..and this will ruin your game and your abilities to make the next step. Also many 30 s is really good! They will turn into *more 40 s* and so on.
Enough table time, and the willing is always the key to success. Free your mind and enjoy the game- and you will feel and play better :-)

"prayer-mode-OFF!" :-)

lg and i wish all a smooth stroke,

Ingo

Thanks! Ha ha... when I mean easy, the pockets were easy. I make it harder with my patterns! :p

Additional to my post before :)
His lesson from John at the DCC also gave him a nice *push* of course. John is just a class-act. The way he can transfer his knowledge in a humble way is just great. And he really knows how to explain the important things.
It s always a pleasure to read here postings from John.

lg from overseas,

I was wondering if it was him. Lots of nice numbers. Very good. Lots of 30s, 40s and 50s for the Terjman!

I guess that lesson with Schmidtty might have helped a little. ;)

By the way, Rich93 had a seminar/lesson with John a few years back. Since Rich is almost as old as me, it may have taken that long for the lesson to bear fruit. Rich did see a lot of runs down at Derby and that may have awakened the sleeping giant that he is now becoming. Who knows!

great run rich, anything in the 50s takes alot of skill. is very hard and u should b proud. c u around champ

Thanks, John. It's awfully nice to get a pat on the back from a great player like you. Just watching you run balls - in person and on video - is really an inspiration. Nobody makes it look as easy as you do.

I only look younger than you, Junior. I'm posting big numbers these days ..... 64 (years, not balls).

Well,
i ll just post here a great high-run for a student of mine and friend.
Marek Hajdovsky from the czech republic just ran out in an official game with 96 and continued the run until 142. Wow!

Congrats Marek for 142 in straight-pool! That s an awesome step. Keep shooting Big Boy :-) I m proud of you- Enjoy your "New Number" !

OK, thought I'd post up here. Since coming back into the game about three years ago I've had a hell of a time getting into the third rack so I didn't even think worthy to post here. Took a lesson from JS recently and have put up a 32, 37, 38, 40, 42, 44 within a week. Last night I put up a 51.

GC4 with 4.25" pockets and 4.75" sides.

Thanks, John!!!!! :D P.S. When you gonna come back?;)

Put me down for a 54 yesterday (3/3/12). Ran out a set and my friend kindly let me keep shooting. I missed on a missable secondary break shot that would've opened the rack up nicely. Oh well.

This is both my lifetime high run (first time over 50) and the first time I've touched a cue in three weeks. All in all, no complaints.

Appreciate and agree with your thoughts here. Remembering to have fun is the key, imo. I'm running 40's more now and it feels good. But I find that I'm only able to do that when I'm just enjoying my game. If it starts to feel like work, my game goes south, along with my enjoyment.

Cheers...

Finally got back on a table last night! After struggling a bit with 3 9's in a row I ran an 18! so for now my high run for the year is 18! :)

Ingo, you were quite fast to brag about my new high run, yet it is really you who deserve to be messenger of good news! :D To be honest I am still surprised with myself and my new high run as i was struggling with my game on Saturday but on the other hand my patterns were working good, i just had to focus on my pre-shooting routine more that day. When I was on 92 I was facing pretty tough break shot. So I decided to take time out. Some positive selftalk in the restroom and back to the table. Fired the ball with confidence in the heart of pocket with perfect spread. When I reached 96 which was out at the moment i knew i wanted 100 (would be my first in a match). So 4 more which were in the open. When I made it I yelled "COME ON!" and decided to continue. I had just one opportunity to break a cluster of balls which i did perfectly so it was walk in the park from there. My focus was fading rapidly with adrenaline levels rising but my stroke did not abandon me so i was able to shoot some more balls. Finally my run ended with cueball getting kicked into the cluster from which i had 3 choices: tough combo to the middle, tough carom to the corner and tough bank shot. I went for the bank shot which i missed by a mile.
P.s.: My personal best in the match was 83 and 125 in practice so far, 142 in a match is definitely BIG for me :D

Congrats Marek, that is some playing. That type of playing will lead you to great things down the road if your heart stays with it, on the table & off. With a coach like Ratta, I know you can't go wrong.
Best of Luck
Mike
