Recently I got serious about my commitment to good health .Of course pain being one of the greatest motivators known to man it took me getting fed up !! A good friend and practice partner was over to play on our normal thursday night and I probably lasted about an hour of play and just folded .I told him I ate too much that day and felt like warmed over Sh*T !! I have cut out alot of sugar and most breads and pastas .I still have one slice of Ezikiel bread in the mornings for my toast .The first couple days were tough and I had a couple real bad headaches from the sugar withdrawl. The past three days I can really tell I am turning the corner and have some of my energy back .I need to drop about 35 lbs and have been aware of this for at least 4 years or more .So now that I am really serious about making a change I have a question that keeps naging at me .HOW DO FAT PEOPLE PLAY POOL ?
I'm not wanting to hurt anyones feelings or not be empathetic ,I just watch some guys who are WAY larger than I have ever gotten play pool for hours on end in tournaments and action .Honestly I have no idea how they do it ?? Maybe they have lived that way longer and are just used to being that big.
I'm staying the course this time and hope this thread does not offend anyone or if it does maybe it will spur them on to change as well . fatguy_box.jpg

You prob would have done better at not offending anyone without the picture. Just saying...lol

Well yeah

With a bridge of course, they get belly hooked a good deal of the time.

I thought about you Lenny ,I put up the heavy bag last night .If I remember right you said you had done some boxing in the past .I guess I have already offended Slim so I better get busy on the working out before all the big guys show up at my door !!!

One of the best workouts IMO is hitting that bag, go full blast for a few minutes and your heart rate will be threw the roof, that along with some good footwork. I have been slacking in the working out department but still am in decent shape according to most peoples standards but not to my own. I do 8-10 hour pool sessions here and there, I feel being in good shape certainly transfers over to pool most certainly but respect those heavy guys and older fellas who can play pool for very long periods of time.

Red rep sent..

This is just the way people are. Go on a diet, everyone should diet. Quit smoking, everyone must quit too. Get to old to screw, yep don't want no one else to do it either. :)

There is

Red rep sent..

Always a first time for everything  What I find SO funny is that if I would of toned it down a bit and said "over weight " and left off the picture no one would of given me a hard time .We live in a politically correct world that really has a hard time with the truth. I aint hating on anyone or even judging FAT people .In fact I am FAT right now and working on a change by dealing with the facts.

They don't play for long before they have a stroke. They die early and not in a good way.

The point of the matter is that you put out a question that is half-filled with ignorance and the other half is your own ideology. I have no problem with people telling "the truth", but you start out with a question based on ignorance and then proceed to capitalize it. Fat people play pool just like short people play pool or skinny people play pool - one shot at a time. Different body types lend themselves to different strengths and weaknesses. If you can only play for an hour while 35lb overweight, I'd say that's a sign that there's a much bigger health issue going on there.

You ended up coming off like the newly-turned vegetarian that wants to tell everybody that eats meat how aweful it is and how bad they are. Then you go ahead and keep capitalizing fat, like you're trying to poke people that you've just pissed off. I'm probably 20lb or so over, so I could really care less about who you call fat. I'm more offended that you ask such a question seriously. Maybe it falls under the idea that, "if you have to ask, you'll never know."

I'm not much for PC, but I'm all for common sense.. the first post lacked it.

I know how you feel. I went to the doctor back on November 17th for a regular check-up since I hadn't had one in forever. When I got on the scale and saw the number, I almost started crying. But it was actually a life changing moment and hit me hard. Since then i've changed what i'm eating and have lost 56 pounds. I'm feeling better and getting my act together. I'm anxious to keep losing weight and to actually start playing pool again, as i've kind of taken the last year off for the most part. I finally get what people have always said when the made the comment that "Diets don't work, it has to be a lifestyle change." My cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides and blood pressure are all down in good ranges. I've got another 100 pounds or so to go.

Kid Delicious is a heavy guy and he can play pro level for loooong periods of time.

What about his hiatus from the game due to health issues?

I'm not hating on anybody, hell I could stand to lose 15 pounds, I'm just saying, to quote Danny Diliberto, "Being a blimp never helps".

Great news, man. Stick to it. The world needs more people like you in it.

I am a pretty big guy, and I have no problem playing sessions that last 8 hours or more. I am 6'1 and about 285, and it does not affect me at all. And I also play pretty good. Playing extra good shape does help with not getting belly hooked. lol. But being a bigger guy, sometimes I have to take tougher shots. But it has made me a better shotmaker in the process! I am working out now, and I have always played sports but, but I have always been a little bigger. So maybe that does make it easier for me to play long sessions and feel no effects. So good luck with your weight loss, and good luck in playing longer sessions.
