How do fat people play pool ?

I am a naturally thin person, I eat thousands of calories a day and gain little. I eat steak once a week and burgers, alfredo pasta which is my favorite, these are my weekly diet of food, some fruit and salad thrown in. The people who are overweight, some are by genetics and others are just purely lazy. I see some of these people not helping themselves at all, riding around in the scooters at Wal-mart eating Doritos and other junk. Perhaps the gas prices rising will get more people walking and riding bikes, its good for you anyway.

I applaud someone like Beav who is taking the bull by the horns, feeling the accomplishments of bettering themselves and their lifestyle. I personally have cut back on drinking soda and beer because it goes straight to the mid section and I am not a 20 something year old so it gets me now. For those who have genetic issues I feel sorry but if your sensitive about your weight, not feeling too good/healthy, cant get a woman or whatever other issues then you need to find the motivation and drive to lose that weight. If your happy being overweight then do your thing, but one thing I cannot stand is a lazy crybaby, you cant lose much weight shedding tears.

Try this, cut out all soda, if you can do this you will see a difference and then go from there, if you cannot take this small step then you have no shot. Why would you not want to do something that will benefit you, feeling better, stronger and living longer, your friends and family will appreciate it too. Good luck to everyone in their battle with the beast.

I believe thats a very good tip u just gave out,my wife was drinking 2 2 liter bottles of soda a day for a very long time, she went on to drink diet soda and she was able to lose the amount of weight that she wanted to lose,by doing just that, she lost 20pounds in less then 2months by just switching to diet soda,i know it was the diet soda because she didnt change her eatting habbits at all,i tried to get her to stop drinking all sodas, but i couldnt do that!

a very overly sensitive response

The point of the matter is that you put out a question that is half-filled with ignorance and the other half is your own ideology. I have no problem with people telling "the truth", but you start out with a question based on ignorance and then proceed to capitalize it. Fat people play pool just like short people play pool or skinny people play pool - one shot at a time. Different body types lend themselves to different strengths and weaknesses. If you can only play for an hour while 35lb overweight, I'd say that's a sign that there's a much bigger health issue going on there.

You ended up coming off like the newly-turned vegetarian that wants to tell everybody that eats meat how aweful it is and how bad they are. Then you go ahead and keep capitalizing fat, like you're trying to poke people that you've just pissed off. I'm probably 20lb or so over, so I could really care less about who you call fat. I'm more offended that you ask such a question seriously. Maybe it falls under the idea that, "if you have to ask, you'll never know."

I'm not much for PC, but I'm all for common sense.. the first post lacked it.

Very Sad , no offense meant but it seams it was taken .....regards :(

a very educated response

There r some football players well over 400 pounds, but they can play the whole game, how u may asked, because they r in really good football shape, they mite not look as they r in good shape, but when u watch n see just how fast n quick a 400 pounder can be it is amazing,so i would say just cause u mite see a guy that looks fat, that doesnt mean he is in bad condition, like u had said, some over weight pool players can play a lot longer then others,i would guess thats because they r in better condition, but anyhow good luck to u with your weight lost program, losing weight and looking fit and feeling fit should be everyones goal,if that is what they r in need of,SO DONT NEVER LET A BIG MAN FOOL YA,HE MITE JUST B N BETTER SHAPE(CONDITION)THEN IT APPEARS!
Thank you , I appreciate your input .I know I am not cut out to be heavy and in shape .I got skinny ankles ......it's genetics :D

This is what I'm talking about

I know how you feel. I went to the doctor back on November 17th for a regular check-up since I hadn't had one in forever. When I got on the scale and saw the number, I almost started crying. But it was actually a life changing moment and hit me hard. Since then i've changed what i'm eating and have lost 56 pounds. I'm feeling better and getting my act together. I'm anxious to keep losing weight and to actually start playing pool again, as i've kind of taken the last year off for the most part. I finally get what people have always said when the made the comment that "Diets don't work, it has to be a lifestyle change." My cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides and blood pressure are all down in good ranges. I've got another 100 pounds or so to go.

Here's someone like me who wanted to make a change and is taking action !! Keep on keeping on brother !! I wanted to put myself in check by posting this so that I don't turn back to the Krispy Kreme doughnuts and foods I know I have an unhealthy addiction to . It was not meant to cause any hurt or misguided feelings .I really meant what I said "How do they do it ?" I know from personal experience of being out of shape that I just lose my drive to play .I hope more people like the beav make some changes and can play for many years to come. I turn 42 this year, my father passed away at 42 and had some bad eating patterns himself that I don't want to emulate .

You should ask Jim Fix how fat people play pool. He's a healthy guy, he should know.

Yeah, losing weight is definitely good for your health. I lost 117 pounds and it cured almost all my headaches. One thing I hated though, she made good biscuits!

Hu

Hey Hu,
Was she pretty? Now that is hard to lose weight when she is good looking! I lost some weight like that too. Never felt better!
Many Regards,

LnL,

She was very pretty but not as pretty as the black girl I was running around with before her. A couple problems with the black girl though, she was a little overweight, about a thousand pounds, and a little underage. Nobody could say I wasn't in fast company though, she could run the quarter in under twenty-two flat!

Back then they wouldn't let me marry my filly but with recent changes I'm expecting that to be legal any day now.

Hu

On the "athletic scale", playing pool is somewhere around "eating a donut while vacuuming a floor"

I'm a fat guy. I'm 6'6'' and go between 330 in summer and 350 in winter.
I have the metabolism of a hibernating bear. It's due to not eating enough, believe it or not.

Not only do I play for long periods of time (8-12+ hours), I never sit between shooting or matches. I always stay on my feet. If there is a long time between matches at a tourney, I go out and walk around the block a couple times. I find that I usually can outlast the 'in-shape' shooters in long days at the hall.

And it's not only at the hall. I jogged/ran with my neighbor every Sunday morning for months.

Being fat is no reason to not be in shape.

No, I did not break into a sweat typing this.

What kind of pace were you jogging at? i have a hard time picturing you keeping up with me at your weight

You did not offend me

i thought about you lenny ,i put up the heavy bag last night .if i remember right you said you had done some boxing in the past .i guess i have already offended slim so i better get busy on the working out before all the big guys show up at my door !!!

or hurt my feelings.
And i am not worried about being politically correct or i would have written "maybe you are just a ladies pee pee hole"

i just thought replying with “wow, this is a dumb way to approach this subject” might be a little too harsh.

I am glad that you have decided to try to improve your health.
Hitting the speed bag is a very good way to work toward that goal.

Twenty five years ago i stopped drinking.
Fifteen years ago i stopped smoking.
If i could stop eating, weight control would not be a problem.

Gosh, i feel better now, hope you do too.

Your right and those guys who are thin might not be all that healthy either. I was amazed watching the Super Bowl and was impressed with Jean Pierre-Paul and his speed for a big guy. If your big and feel good then great but if your big and feel like crap then something has got to give.

that's one way to look at it but you still have to fade the rest of society looking down on you because you're a chubster, if you're a chubster that is.

society as a whole looks down on fatties. even if the fattie is actually healthier than the thinner person

I'm not a bigger guy, perhaps a couple pounds heavier than Alex and the same height. I just wanted to chime in as others have before that although you meant no harm with the thread, you went the completely wrong way as to addressing your question.

As far as the topic goes, some of the best local players I've seen rock a belly. One thing I've noticed with bigger build players is that they never pop up on their shots and always stay balanced with a lower centre of gravity. Two things slimmer guys tend to have trouble with when starting off.

How good a player would Stephen Lee have been if he could stay off the kebabs?

Not sure if it's true or not, but I heard he entered, and won at a canter, a competition that offered the weight of the winner in pies.

Sad for the Miz

I've seen some fat guys play amazing pool...Just never for very long.

Miz and Buddy would both still be winning tourneys if they had controlled their weight better.

Well said, and so true about Miz and Buddy, two all-time greats whose weight shortened their career dramatically.
I've known quite a number of fine players whose weight forced them from the felt and who died very young as well...
