good stuff.. Match of Archers nightmares

Good lord you guys are all so sappy.. I didnt say it wasnt entertaining! Dont you guys ever dog on your friends or get dogged on?! You all act like if I were to dog on you (joke around) you would react with a tear like I kicked your dog!

It was my bad way of saying why do people of this caliber attempt to play in a tournament like this. I Get now that you guys do it for the bragging rights.. but if this being streamed as bragging rights of your pool career, then maybe you should take up knitting. IMO-

Some people just don't get it.

I would say he is a "B" player who was off for this match.

He had a chance to go up 3-1 but decided to bank the 8?Give the man credit for stepping up.I don't think it was a nightmare match for either player.

I play in tourneys over my head all the time. Its called donating. It is better then watching from the sidelines.People do it to support pool or just because they want to and they can.

Bear....Its one thing to bust balls with ur freinds at the poolroom. We all do that. Its another to come on the most read pool forum in the world ......and crack on some guy you don't even know.

I'm betting that alot of us...think we know how we would respond to playing Johnny Archer on a live stream. I'm also betting alot of us would crap the bed promptly after the lag...

I think that is outstanding for the guy to drive from Canada to support a tournament in NY. That guy is ok by me in my book and krelldog those were two very good and true to the word post.

All i said was hey entertaining video here, nightmare match for Archer (which it was, he had horrible rolls and shot bad), and Bateman Has a horrible stroke(which he does) and was getting crazy rolls(which he was)

I wasnt saying the guy is HORRIBLE SHOOTER.. I said he doesnt BELONG there (still M.O.) and on a recorded stream video.

bearsafety...So now you're the sole judge and jury on who should, or should not, play in a professional event (whether it's on the tv table or not)? Every year there are a few guys who pay their entry, and just show up to play at the US Open 9Ball event. They have no chance to win...they are just there to support pool, and potentially play some world champion (just like this match). The same thing happens every year at the DCC. There's nothing wrong with it, and you're wrong to be bustin' the guys balls here, just because he stepped up to the plate...and now you're being a crybaby because all of us here are CALLIN' YOU OUT FOR WHAT YOU DID! Time to grow up...

As a seventh degree black belt in the two-and-out system taught by my sensei Travis Trotter, I know from personal experience that sometimes the Sun shines on a dog's ass.

I have lost my first two matches more times than I can remember. I would love to play Johnny Archer in a tournament, TV table or not. So what if the outcome is pretty safe to assume?

Ya'll can make fun of me. I don't mind.

Clearly it is way better to come on azbilliards and rip someone than it is to actually put up the money to enter and play in a tournament against the likes of Johnny Archer!

No im good. we are just exchanging thoughts.. You guys think im an inconsiderate *****, im fine with it. He has no chance in hell at that tourney, but I can see where he likes to blow money and shoot the shit with big name people.

You guys have your opinions, I have mine which I stated.

I wasnt saying the guy is HORRIBLE SHOOTER.. I said he doesnt BELONG there (still M.O.) and on a recorded stream video.

First of all, he didn't demand to play on the stream table.

Secondly, for most second tier and unders, being assigned to Archer on the stream table will not bring bring out their best game.

Lastly, you can always request a refund. In fact I'll pay it. How much did it cost you? :D

In all seriousness, you should give it a try sometime. It's a lot of fun playing in a good tournament against name professionals. Tell you something else, it'll steel you for your local tournaments or money matches when the heat is on. It's just simply good experience.

Where pool is right now, the dead money players aren't looked down on by the world beaters. Most professionals appreciate and are supportive of those donating to the cause.

I was fascinated by his bangs. Didn't even notice his shooting.

For the record, although I don't like the way Mr. Bateman played, I certainly appreciate his willingness to get up there and battle it out with the best players in the game. I'm also INSANELY jealous of him inasmuch as I don't have the chance to drive anywhere to participate in professional tournaments. Had I that opportunity, I would certainly be contributing my dead money and I would also expect that folks would have good (hopefully) and bad (almost certainly) things to say about my performance. That's part of playing under the lights.

At any rate, my tongue-in-cheek comments were by no means intended to denigrate Mr. Bateman's participation in the tournament, and I would certainly encourage him and other players to play in all the events they can. It's a relatively cheap price for gaining invaluable experience. My apologies to any who my statements may have offended.

Play on!

I would love the chance . . .

My pal, Tom McGonagle, made a great post here on az a while back that bears great relevance to this topic. Worth taking a look; it's called "Without Cupcakes, There's Not That Much To Eat":

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=245392&highlight=cupcake

People who play a few balls below the elite players in our sport, can, and certainly do, make a positive difference by competing in these tournaments. And not just financially.

Plus, on any given day, you never know.

Greenies to both krelldog and Tom Mcgonagle for their insightfulness.

best,
brian kc
