MOSCONI CUP 2012 Who Will Win This Year?

The European Team has dominated the Mosconi Cup the past 5 years. The USA Team lost At Home last year, now they play in London's York Hall in front of their "Enthusiastic" HOME CROWD!

Will the USA Team be able to Win in London England This Year? What will it take for the American's Team to Win and Bring Home the Mosconi Cup?

Five players with the heart of Shane Van Boening.

IMO The US team needs a coach/ captain that will get them working and practicing together as a team. The European team is just that.... A Team. If the pool world could vote or choose its representing players and captain , we might have a better shot. We have players that can win points events but not be able to cope with the pressure of a team event. I think Dechaine, SVB and Archer have the goods to handle the pressure. The other 2 that I think have the goods I am prabably better off not throwing their names out in this thread

Dennis Hatch as proven himself, and I would think Rodney Morris as well.

The nature of 9ball in europe, being younger and not so wide spread as US pool makes the players much more familiar with each other. Most of them are good friends. Alot less internal turmoil that unfortunately sometime plagues US efforts to put teams together.

From my experience watching the last Cup, I would say the key is the break. Over and over again the Europeans broke the magic rack perfectly, and had relatively easy shape on their first shot. Over and over again, the Americans made a ball, but were nearly always hooked on their first shot.

They can all run out. I feel like they should focus more on the break, since the Europeans practice with it in their leagues all year long. Just my silly opinion :)

I agree with you all the way and.....................

you know we've played we've talked.

And I think you yourself would be an excellent captain for the team.

Captain CJ, got a good ring to it too !

If the US players would spend some time on the MC break they would do much better. Johnnyt

That rack cetainly makes the game easier and faster paced

I think you're right, the magic rack makes it essential to "master the break". I haven't played very much with it, just the Texas State Championships, but it was unnerving to see that you could make a ball EVERY time with no power required.

I would hate to think how many racks someone can run if they really get that break down to a science, and I'm guessing you really need to be able to get out a race to 11 in 3 innings consistently to win a major with that rack.

The Texas State Championships had 2 players run out the session in the first 2 days. I'm not sure if it happened after that or not. That rack cetainly makes the game easier and faster paced. I didn't know they used it in the Mosconi Cup.

Europe's the favorite, but the chances of the American team are greatly enhanced by the emergence of Mike Dechaine as a legitimate superstar.

In 2012, Mike came third in the Derby City Nine ball, was the only non-Filippino to reach the final day of the US Open 10-ball championship and won very convincingly at Turning Stone.

If the US is going to get it done this year, I think Mike Dechaine will be the star of the show.

A year ago, however, Europe didn't field it's strongest possible team, with VanDenBerg and Melling on the team while Immonen and Hohmann watched. Not sure who they'll have on this year's team, so I'll wait to make my prediction.

This should be fun.

I believe they rack the 9 on the spot and 3 balls must go past the side pockets not minus what you make. It's about 90% what team has the best break. Plus wjth the short races you must come out swinging in every game. Johnnyt

My vote is Landon Shuffett as a member of the MC team. He's part of the real future generation of American professionals.

Tap Tap!!

There is no question that Landon will be the next influence in pool!

ALSO, it makes sense to bring up a mixture of veterans and fresh potentials that will pass the torch and start maintaining experience. Only time can tell...

Racking the 9 on the spot seems better

Racking the 9 on the spot seems better (to keep the corner ball from being dead on the break), they were doing that at the US OPEN, I'm not sure if they're still doing it or stopped for some reason.

of course hohmann and immonen are strong players, but melling played a great MC last year and i enjoy watching him. VDB takes every year at least 1 major title in europe and deserves to be on the MC team, where as immonen isnt anymore in his 2009 shape and hohmann doesnt play any tournaments in europe.
Its true that all the european players know each other, they all play the eurotours and hang out together. the FB walls of some players are a fun read when they are on tour.

the USteam hasnt had a captain, and it was JA who took the job of the teamleader. and hes a great one! dechaine seemend a little bit nervous last year (normal, id wet my pants playing in such an athmorphere  ) but i think he ll play a strong MC. v boening is such a consistent player, he will for sure do his job.

cant wait for it to start, its such a great event :)

Shane is due for a MVP this time. Johnnyt

Maybe Dennis , im not sure .Dennis is not as active a pro as SVB,archer or Dechaine. He did dog it but that's not to say he would again. Rodney just dogs his brains out in the MC
