I can believe that it happens from time to time, and you're right, it shouldn't. It has no place in today's society. I just think it's more of a general observation of the world than of this forum in particular.
This forum has its fair share of crazies who spew their fair share of crap (in my opinion, of course), but I don't see a huge amount of misogyny on here.
If Pangit was representative of the members here then I think the place would see a lot less traffic.
Women have been discriminated against in the pool world for many years. I can remember going on the road with a so-called "pool hustler" in the 1980s, and when we got to Petersburg, Virginia, there was a sign out front that said "No Women Allowed."
It wasn't until recently that females were allowed to compete in men's tournaments. When Earl Strickland got spanked by Gerda Hofstatter, a female pro, at the 2005 IPT King of the Hill Tour in Orlando, Florida, females pool peeps everywhere rejoiced and cheered. Earl couldn't get out of the venue fast enough, with the media chasing close behind. If you've got an extra 10 bucks to spend, check it out for grins --->
Earl vs. Gerda.
Men claim women can't get there when it comes to competition, but in my opinion, it's because women haven't been given the chance, until recently.
With the female pro tour circling the drain and no men's pro tour, I envision professional pool in America not advancing anytime soon. Attendance is down in some major pool events. The Seminole Tour ended last year. The Glass City Open closed its doors for good, but they let females compete. The Super Billiards Expo has moved yet again to a new location. I hope for the sake of the East Coast pool peeps that it is a success, but females are welcome to play at the SBE.
Being a female, I guess I see things differently, and that's okay. We all have our opinions, I guess, but when I read vulgarity against women on a pool forum, it makes the hair on my neck stand up. Others may not notice. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. :frown:
