Starting Basement Pool Room

That is why I never run the drywall all the way to the floor. Instead I put a 1 X 10 around the floor and bring the drywall down to the top edge. You can use J bead to finish off the bottom edge of the drywall to give it a clean look. Love the terra cotta color on the walls BTW..

Excellent work man is all I can say. Looks great.

I second the extra sump pump and batteries.

Also, I agree about the sheet rock. Best way is to use a 1" thick board as a spacer on the floor when your hanging the sheet rock.

Also, some wainscoating stained dark would look great wrapped around the walls. It would also protect the wall against various wear and tear ..i.e., like someone mentioned if ppl put their feet against the wall.

Stupid question, what's the two long slots in the wall for?

Thanks

Looks great!
Just a little advice make sure you have a back up sump pump system. My 3 year old pump failed, flooded 8 inches! They removed all the flooring and the bottom foot of drywall, and dried the basement for week. Spent 15,000 just to get the back to pre flood condition.

I now have 3 sumps pumps and a battery back up system.

I have flooded many times here also! Certainly a concern at ALL times. I put in a battery backup sump system the weekend after drywall got put up. I still check morning and after work everyday...just have to put faith in the weekends and weeks away!! :frown:

They're for "floating shelves" It's built into the studs so I can just slide a thick shelf in and don't need any fasteners or brackets. Just a little construction adhesive. It's shelving for A/V equipment.

First off thanks for all the compliments and suggestions I've received over the last couple months. It's been an exciting couple months for sure!! I'm seeing the finish line and it's nice. All I have left is some trim work and a Bifold door for the closet. I'm still waiting on the wet bar to be built which is why you see the random bump out in the back of the room. Hopefully soon, but the room is functional. Which probably explains why the trim and door have not been finished yet. Too much playing and not enough work! I should have listened to my buddy who said "don't set up your new table until the trim is done" LOL!! YEAH RIGHT!!

Anyway, here is where I'm at and thanks for following along!!

I'll post a few more as I get the wet bar in and trim finished. Probably a rug or two and some pictures around the room. I'm trying to get one more pub table to match and a few more button top stools. I think I've bagged the sofa idea. I think this room is just fine as a pool room, not so much a TV room.

How do you like that light? Im about to purchase the same one from Billiard Factory here in Houston. Will be going over a GCII

Charlie - I have a brass light just like that -- it is by no means perfect but with some TLC would look good. You can have it if you pay for the shipping. I can take some pics if you want to see what condition it is in.

Thank you very much for the offer, is it the 3 shade or the 4 shade light? Pictures would be awesome...

Anyone have any good design ideas for the walls around the pool table area.

My concern is that people will put their feet up on the lower part of the wall when standing in front of the wall. For the upper part of the wall, my concern is people leaning their cue against the wall and having tons of chalk marks around the room.

I don't want to go too dark because it will make a small space look even smaller.

Thanks,

I put up a chair rail made from slot wall (3/4" MDF with slots for fixtures, like you see in stores). The plan is to make various shelves and cue racks and folks can put them where they like. My walls are covered in grass cloth, and a blue ring at 58" will not be easy to clean (can't just wash it like latex painted walls).

You can see one cue on the far left side in the one and only cue holder I've made so far. There is a better () picture on another site that shall remain nameless.

First off ... you have me drooling! Fantastic room! I really enjoyed that you posted the beginning and all that was involved instead of just showing us the beautiful end result. To me it made it all that much more impressive. As to the TV/sofa comment ... I agree but you could put a small flat screen on a ceiling mount to have and watch from the pub tables.

It's fine for what it is. I would love a diamond or brunswick light, but they are very large and hide a large portion of room. If I didn't have the soffit to go under I probably would get a larger fluorescent. Don't get a 3 light. It won't be enough and a 5 can be a bit long if you don't raise it up a bit higher. My buddy has a 5 and I kept bumping my head racking. We raised it a few inches.

Q Protectors, could you tell me where you found the two chairs that the players would sit in. I have been looking for chairs like that with the wide arms for my room and haven't been able to find any at a reasonable price.

By the way your room looks fantastic, can't wait to see the finished product, if only I could get off my ass and clean my room up a bit.

Excellent choices on flooring and wall coloring! I'm really impressed by your lighting placement. It gives off a nice ambiance. Great work and enjoy.

I got them at a local game/sports store. They're pretty cheap. I think I only paid $100 a piece.

Alright guys, I think this is probably my last post since I'm pretty much done at this point. So I got the wet bar installed recently and finished up all the trim. So this is what I did. I'm attaching a "Before" and "After" picture of the room. I'm off to enjoy the room now!
