Gunshots in front of poolhall, Dallas, TX

Lou didn't run into CJ did he?

Lol, ouch. I haven't got to check out the link yet. Does it have anything to do with the pool hall or did it just happen to be near one? Media love to link pool halls with violence. It makes for a more colorful story.

I'm interested to hear more details. The area has been bad for a long time. My Uncle was shot and killed during a robbery at a Pizza inn right around the corner from that place 25 years ago.

I would bet it didnt have anything to do with the pool, more the thugs that live in the area and like to "hang out" in that shopping center.

Crazy !

I was at Hawleys about 6 months ago........

This does not reflect this poolhall at all.

The people and players there were so nice. They really made me feel right at home.

I spent most of my time in Hawleys, Which was about 3 weeks there giving lessons and playing a few players.

Made some great friends there and can't wait to go back there.

There are people there that would give you the shirt off their back. Kind of like most poolhalls everywhere I go.

This gunshot thing does effect my going there at all. I'm sure the locals there feel the same way.

It's no smoking also and they don't make any exceptions. Kind of nice.

And you have the character of what drops out of the south end of a north bound cow....

It's just not worth it anymore at this point.... I'm sure I would get a stern warning or some time in the box for saying everything that tried to jump out of my keyboard...

I was in the Dallas area a couple of month's ago. One night, ended up going to Hawley's and then on to the Billiard Den.

The people in Hawley's talked to me like I was regular around there. Good folks from what I could tell.

It's pretty obvious after walking through the parking lot that is there is alot more going on in that shopping center than just the poolroom.

charm vs. character

One makes people chuckle and one gets you banned.

Dickie , you better " Get your mind right. And I do mean RIGHT".

I hope the quotation marks critic will give me pass in this case.

There is clearly a double standard in place. I guess pro players can do whatever they want with no repercussions, the rest of us better toe the line

I've been to Hawley's a lot and it's a good place. The owner, Walter, is friendly, on the floor a lot, and plays in the weekly tournament. I've never had any issues with anyone there. It's on the edge of a bad, small, section of town. The strange thing is five blocks away are a bunch of high end retail stores and the ritzy Galleria shopping mall.

I've still got the picture of "Fats" with the bullet hole in his head.

Yeah, Walter's cool, I've know him for 15 years, and this could happen at any time, any place in Dallas.

I had someone shoot at one of my police officers one time, he ducked and the bullet came through one of my front plate glass windows and hit a picture of Minnesota Fats located above my bar.

I always wondered if that had any significance, I've still got the picture of "Fats" with the bullet hole in his head.
