commentators get your stuff together

You're doing a disservice to pool by sounding like a ****ing moron. No one wants to hear you babble on and drunkenly sing. Just shut up and do your job.

I assume you're toolki talking about Tunica? If so I completely agree. The commentary from Tunica is like listening to paint dry. I think commentators should comment on the game and who's involved. if you want to bs with the chat room, stream it and join the damn chat room. I seriously had to mute Ekonomopolous vs Wang.

Talking to the chat is absolutely my pet peeve. Comment about what's going on in the match instead of talking to some dude in the chat about running or whether they know Jim Bob from Waukeegan. You want to tell a road story or anecdote or two I'm all for it, but the chat is mostly a black hole inanity. Don't get sucked in.

Which Stream are you talking about. There is Inside Pool, Big truck and Accu-Stats

Unfortunatley I have been unable to watch. I think there are 2 streams going on Accustats and Bigtruck. I could be wrong.however both have a good reputation around here and I would be shocked if these guys were as bad as you guys are saying. Who was actually doing the commentary that was so bad?

I'm not sure of the guy's name but I can hear his voice grating on my brain right now, even at work with no pool videos playing. I guess I should not complain though. the video is excellent and I can always listen to Spotify and ignore it.

Edit: here's a link to part 2 of the one that drove me nuts. couldn't find part 1 on my phone, but the first few minutes of that were grueling for me.

That video you posted is from InsidePool's stream. The commentator is Alvin........

Ok, now we know, and knowing is half the battle. the other half is good commentary lol

Let's get a contract written up for Pretty Boy Floyd. I know I'd enjoy that.

Does this guy Alvin own inside pool or something? Why else in the world would his mindless drivel be allowed on the air? And to top it off his voice is also quite irritating.

"oh look he made another ball" seems to be the entire extent of this guys pool knowledge. That's what he sees when watching these guys play.

1. Keep score. I'll even buy you the pencil and paper. I can't remember the last time I watched a commented one-pocket match where the commentator knew the ball count. If there's two commentators, they'll argue about it and both are wrong! Watch the SBE 2011 10-ball VanBoening-Pagulayan match: every time Alvin mentions the score, he's got it wrong.

2. Talk about the game that's going on (next shot, problem balls, etc) or shut up. Babbling on about anything else is like sitting in the stands with two drunks behind you babbling on about their life in pool. I'd love to hear about that over a drink...but not while I'm trying to enjoy a match

If you have to tell a story wait until the players are racking for the next game. If you want to invite someone on to plug their product, do it between racks.

3. Turn up the table volume and turn down the commentator volume. Hearing the sounds of the table makes the viewer feel like he's right there. But hearing the commentator 3 times as loud as the table is like...well, see #2 above. Buy a $99 audio mixer if you don't already have one.

4. Pay no attention to the chat room. It is very distracting, see #2 above. If I want to know what the chatters are saying, I'll watch the chat room.

5. Remember the rule: Silence is golden. Why do commentators think they always need to be talking? Talk when there is something important to say...otherwise let us hear the sounds of the table.

i wish people would be more specific when bashing.

This OP is brand new, but others have been bashing without saying the correct entity they are mad at. Or not having more direct info, just here say fantasy BS.

NOT:cool:

"Ive been preparing for this stream all day"

"Wang is from China, I think"

"Exonomopholiacitc (butchering his name) played in the Mosconi cup, if my memory serves me".

And this was pay per view? The chat told him to STFU within 5 minutes of his broadcast and he got all defensive. LMAO

He needs to speed his voice up and get back with the chipmunks.

This was not ppv, this was a free stream.

Alvin tells everyone he is not a commentator, that he is an entertainer.
He has a huge following, why I don't know, but he does.

He says he just found out he was going to Tunica before they started
broadcasting,
If u had heard, and I am sure most of u turned off your sound, that his
life is hurting right now.
Alvin has been doing free live streams with ip for quite awhile now.
I feel very sorry for him right now, I don't know what happened to this
kid that used to be so light and comical.
He sounds terrible on the broadcast and I hope he has some friends that
help him find the right path again,
From the looks of it, might be wrong, there is some political stuff
going on.
So I guess we will see how it all falls out.
But Alvin really is a nice person and he loves pool and he loves giving
the stream for free.
So lets not be too hard on him.

You might be correct on that one Slinger. Unless there are two Alvins, I believe he was at the Clash of the Titans 1.

From what I remember, he was well liked in Toronto. Maybe he has some personal stuff going on that makes it sound like he isn't all there in spirit. The Alvin in Toronto was more upbeat.

I have watch a lot of videos (mostly you tube) with Alvin commentating and I know he has and can do a good job.
I agree that some of his recent commentating has been more "relaxed".
I do remember watching a video that I believe was his. You could hear him, off mic, telling the guest commentator to ignore any BS that was on the chat just talk about the match.
It would be great if the streams would get back to that!

I suspect Alvin is the only person InsidePool could get to travel non-stop around the country setting up cameras and linking to streaming services. Who else would want to do that thankless job?

But why make it any harder by requiring him to do commentary? It's not his strong suit, so let him do the set-up and then kick back and relax. Announce the score and who's breaking before every rack. That's plenty.
