Can we have the truth - are the Bonus Ball players being paid or not?

If the BB bank account is running on empty, you can't pay either employees or contractors with money that you don't have. However, the business may still owe payroll taxes even if they file for bankruptcy.

If they are "employees," they are eligible for unemployment compensation if they get canned.

Not necessarily. It depends on whether they meet the criteria for getting unemployment compensation, of which duration of employment is one criteria that the BB players probably won't satisfy.

i don't know employment law too well, but don't you have to be employed for a minimum amount of time to be eligible? What if they aren't residents of the state?

I seriously doubt they are "employees". They are probably 1099 and not 1099 workers but contract work like the relationship between a promoter and entertainer. NO taxes will be withheld, SS and MC tax will not be withheld.
Now on the flip-side, depending if they are paid via team or player there is some simple entity planning that can help reduce the tax liability there. Be sure that BB will be sending the IRS 1099s for every cent paid out to players.

The first player that comes on here publicly in this thread and announces the truth to either confirm or deny, I will buy him dinner at SW Steakhouse at The Wynn while I am in Vega$ from July 17 - 28. This has to be done before any press release by BB.

p.s. JAM - I think you are on to something.

I got the big STIFFY! Summmmm Biattttch!

Filet cooked medium (warm pink center)
Grilled asparagus
Baked Potato (dry...getting fat)
House salad with low fat dressing (watching my figure again)

One player complained to a friend of mine that he hadnt been paid for 2 weeks (not that bad) and the guy with the checkbook had gone to Canada.

I'm sure there is a minimum hours you have to work to qualify.

Defend to the end.

Anyways, if you are salary you don't have a minimum of hours.

Either way, I would file and then let the state sort it out instead of all the attorneys in this thread.

#1- entitled or not, until a wronged individual files a complaint or brings suit, he has a very low probability of recieving an award of any sort:wink:

B: I got no idea about NV unemployment law.

Here's some of the criteria for collecting Unemployment Insurance in Nevada:
A person must have worked in employment and have sufficient wages within a base period to qualify for the claim. The work must be in "covered" employment, but is not required to be wholly within one state. The vast majority of employers are "covered" employers, but some employment is exempt from coverage, such as work performed for a church, self-employment and work performed for private employers while in the custody of a state correctional institution.

In Nevada, a person must have earned at least $400 in one quarter of the base period, and have total base period earnings of not less than 1-1/2 times the earnings in the highest quarter, OR must have wages in at least 3 of the 4 base period quarters used to calculate eligibility.

Also, individuals who are self-employed do not meet the definition of unemployed, unless the self-employment is casual in nature and can be worked at the same time as a full-time job in the person's customary occupation.

My post was not about collecting unemployment. Not sure where everyone misunderstood that.

My post with the links was about GETTING PAID for services provided or time worked by the players. Some of which are friends of mine.

and you can be equally as sure that 50% of the players will not be expecting and or prepared to pay those taxes, FICA etc

And I can tell you the players simply got a check (well two checks) - no taxes taken out. When asked for a 1099, Larry looked at the players like they had 4 heads.

Its all 200% true. You know no players coming on here. Ill just take an in and out burger, since im a half ass player.

I know quite a bit @ labor laws having owned/run 14 auto service centers for 22 years (and not to derail the thread Watchez, but I can put this puppy to rest with relative accuracy).

The players are absolutely independent contractors (google "20 questions independent contractor", altho it's a confusing crappy read). BB is required to have the players complete a W4 (SS#, etc) and to issue players 1099's by Jan 31 for the previous calendar year and then file a 1096 with the state (perhaps not if there's no state income taxes in NV) and fed IRS, which itemizes and summarizes who was paid more than $600. Then they match it up (sometimes) with the independent contractors tax return.

They won't be eligible for unemployment. And no taxes, FICA, medicare withheld.

Now where's MY check for the legal work?

It's called sympathy weight gain son..... Yours truly was "sympathetic" to the tune of 95 lbs in 9 months..... LOL

I never thought I would imagine a pool player walking in the Unemployment office and telling em to get you a job playing pool because those are my skills ! tyvm

And btw i think you need 26 weeks on the books here in NYS to be eligable for a claim.

That would be very cool to get starters from the state to do some free lancing.

Hard to imagine after the IPT that anyone would invest so much to build a facility and outfit it without the financing to see it through at least a year of operating expenses in reserve.

I mean I don't know what the deal is but if indeed there are already payment issues then it's really sad. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
