Octagonal Chalk...Why?

I'm speaking about the Predator 1080 Pure. Does anyone know why Predator have made it octagonal? If I didn't know better I would say its Blue Diamond, but not square. Colour, texture and feel are almost identical. Doesn't leave a mess on the CB as much as BD though.

I can't understand why it isn't a cube. I chalk towards the corners of a cube of chalk which leaves a nice 'X' shape that fits my tip perfectly and doesn't make as much mess as if I rubbed it randomly in any direction. Impossible to do with Predator chalk. Maybe Predator just want to stand out and rebel against the 'norm'...triangular chalk, now there's a thought. Perhaps the makers of Triangle chalk will realise a triangular "cube" could be the future.

Why not? It's different and noticeably Predator. Throughout chalk history, most shapes have been tried before.

It kinda reminds me of the old days of round chalk. Probably just a marketing strategy to make them stand out.

I guess it's working because well... here we are. :)

Yeah true. I didn't buy it though. I got a few tubes free and planned on giving them away to my club and friends, but I kept a couple of octagons to try out.

Its very good chalk, as you would expect coming from a company like Predator. I would have never bought it purely because of the shape, but after using it for a while ill be buying some when the time comes.

I wonder if others are missing out just because they refuse to accept new things..just like me.

Octagonal chalk allows you to get more fingers on the cube for ease of chalking.
It is twice as easy to chalk when you can get 8-fingers in the octagon at one time.
Traditional cube chalk limits your chalkability to one hand, 4-fingers, which is hard for some people to coordinate.
I guess you could chalk with two fingers on each hand with a traditional cube, but that would be stupid>>

I think it's a conservative/economical strategic measure...

It's got 15-20% less chalk...per piece...

No different than the smaller Kamui pieces...

Outsville Paragon will be out by Derby I hope... Still working on the right formula and I fully intend to revisit the past by making it round.....

I figure round will be distinct in today's poolrooms and there will be no corners so should be less waste as Mr. Bond has already pointed out with the paragon

Marketing 101

It's different than everything else. It gets noticed. Smart folks over there at Predator.

8 sided chalk inst new they made it that shape 100 years ago, they made round chalk as well and on some of it you could use either end to chalk with. look up old chalk and see....

So a quick google showed some weird and wonderful shapes and sizes of chalk. Not sure about the double ended chalk though. Hard enough picking the chalk from your pocket to find you've got a nice blue finger tip with just one open side.

Time will tell if I get more usage from the octagonal chalk; no reason why I shouldn't.

Maybe they'll get Joe Rogan to advertise it.

The only chalk good enough for the octagon. (UFC joke)

Recently switched to Predator chalk and I love it. It's consistent from one piece to the next, holds well, and is recognizable. Less flaking than Master's. Very few miscues in over a month of using it and only then on extreme shots.

Highly recommend it, especially given the price of less $2 a piece compared to some of the more pricey chalks out there.

there probably Heading into the smaller Pool accessories Business,, it you like there Chalk now you can buy there new Pocket Chalk Holders

And like people mentioned before it Stands out more in a pool Hall

You could always call it Outsville Paragon .98b "Beta" before the Derby, and add a 1.21d "Derby" later.
Or call it Derby and "pre" Derby.
I felt like I won your name the K-tech tip contest with K-tech II, so I'm just getting a head start on the chalk.
Don't let the formula get in the way of sound marketing>>

Isn't predator known for their 8 piece pie shaped laminated shafts..? They made a product similar in shape.

Perhaps it's Low Deflection Chalk with 8 radially spliced pieces for your pleasure, er performance.

I've used it and liked it. Seems a bit less cakey than Masters.
As for the shape, I would imagine that's a marketing ploy by Predator. :)
