SVB not wanting to play Lion in all around for $50k?

Well, listening to the video, there's a lot more to it than Shane just not wanting to play Alex. I'm sure if Shane had a backer for 50K he would play him. Also, Shane seems not to like the tables at Hard Times (guessing he is referring to the room in LA). Ill play Alex for 50K if anyone will back me too...:p

I think that's the way they should gamble, all around! The better "pool" player will win, not the better 10-ball player or the 1 pocket player! Last time I checked there was more than 1 kind of game that could be played;) its all about who moves better on the table;)

I thought shane would do 20K with anybody anytime and anywhere except hardtimes. I got shane for 5 vs Alex. Except at ht as well.

Nobody robs Shane in an all-around.

If the games are 8-ball, ten ball and one pocket, perhaps only Bustamante, Pagulayan, Appleton and Orcullo are in Shane's class and Biado might have a shot at winning, too.

I agree with Shane that 3 7/8" pockets have no place in any game but one pocket. Of course, in ten ball, pockets that are silly-tight means a) fewer balls go in on the break, and b) defense is more important, and Alex is, arguably, the best defensive player since Efren. Hence, such a table would help Alex to fade Shane's break in both eight ball and ten ball.

Alex would likely decline an invitation to play an all around in the TAR studio even if Shane had a backer for $50,000.

I don't think Shane would have too much trouble finding a backer for that amount, just a hunch.

In an all around against Alex, I think he might. That match is a coin flip with maybe a slight advantage going either way. There aren't too many people willing to put up $50k for a coin flip.

In an "all-around," why not add disciplines to include all the current tournament games. Best out of five: 8-Ball. 10-Ball, One-Pocket, Banks, & Straight Pool for $100k. Now there's a match! 4.5" pockets should suffice.

You're getting a little loose with John's money..... John (MAY) stake Alex or Shane in an all around against ANYONE else, but not against each other. Totally my opinion though.....

You are correct, they are both good friends of mine and I will not stake either one against the other.

I did stake Alex against Shane in the 1st TAR match that they played. At that time I didn't know Shane, since we have become friends and I value the friendships much more than the money.

I think that the match favors SVB, in 10 ball and 8 ball SVB is the favorite and in one pocket I feel it is very close.

Shane feels he is a favorite in all the games and I imagine that Alex feels the same.

An actual real All Around would be all games.

8 ball
9 or 10 ball
one pocket
banks (short/full)
3 cushion
snooker
straight pool
etc.

I dont think SVB would be a favorite in all aspects of billiards over Alex. People toss all around like theres only 2 or 3 games to play.

Well if you are going to go that far, why not bumper pool and bonus ball?

I can see adding more games on a 9' foot pool table such as banks and straight pool, but to include snooker or 3 cushion billiards is ridiculous.

Alex would be a HUGE favorite in any game played on a snooker table as he has much more experience.

I agree here...

Pedro Pedrabuena is a friend of mine and while he would absolutely decimate me playing 3 cushion, he wouldn't have a chance at any of the pocket billiard games.

To include 3 cushion or snooker in a pool playing all around just isn't right. IMO...

To me the coolest thing to do would be to have the players choose everything.
An example could be that you flip for first choice of game. Then they go back and forth choosing the games. Lets say 5 different games. Maybe each should just pick two and have another way of picking the 5th.
Then pick a basic rule set for each game, and let each player go back and forth choosing rules. Maybe 5 rules a piece or so.
Stream the selection process as promotion to the event.

Example:
Svb wins flip and picks 1st game
10ball
Alex picks
1hole
Svb picks
8 ball
Alex picks
14.1
Fans vote in: Banks

Then go through each game and pick rules. Do the entire thing like a draft.

I dont think it was promoted, but kind of like how boxing would have teams choosing ring size, glove size, etc.

I know I'm in fairy tale land with this stuff, but if you had something like this happening I wouldn't miss a second of it. Especially if it had Dennis, and svb, or Alex, or whatever world beater you want to put in.

Have each guy put up 10k per game so all the games get played. The gamesmanship of the selection process maybe hard to deal with. Maybe have a 3 man panel make decisions on rules, or games that are too outlandish.
It would be fun to watch anyhow.

This is probably just one of those things I would try to do if I became wealthy and wanted money to burn...
