NO Match for Harriman/Schmidt

You want to play some?

I admire the loyalty expressed by patrons of challenge matches on this thread.

That said, the OP needed to put an end to this match, for reasons unknown to me. If she wants them out there, then she can publish a PR or dare to post on this forum again.

Personally, again, I think Mark Cantrill should be the one to clean up this mess.

I'm not afraid of anyone at Scrabble. However, if I play anyone, it's going to be on a real scrabble board and not online or the phone where people cheat and use word-builders and get bingos every 4th word. Maybe this is a match that Str8 Shots wants to produce?????? This sounds like it's more their speed.

JAM vs SPIDEY

Sounds totally academic and awesome for the youth to watch.....until I reach in the bag and pull out: EEEEEUA for my first go-around and motherf@#k everyone to death while being mic'd up.

Anyone call the OP'r?

With 4000+ views. The OP provided a phone number with extension. Did anyone call her? I don't want to know the detail of your conversation, but was curious if anyone did speak with her over the phone regarding this matter.

Quoting Shane about him playing President Obama a game of pool, I say this about the JAM vs. SPIDEY match in Scrabble.: "He can't beat me." :grin-square:

Well, 14 pages so far. I believe Kim & Str8Shots have been thoroughly welcomed to the firepit that is the AZB forums. I'm waiting to hear the fanatics start talking about boycotting their events.

Someone's gotta make a cartoon of this thread!!! And soon!!!

We are close to the point where it could go either way.

If any or all of the following happen its a guaranteed 50 pager:

-Schmitty talks about anything related to goats and mountainous regions

- Danny weighs in at all

-CJ hits a gear

Plus we havent EVEN gotten in to the whole "This is whats wrong with pool" thing in any meaningful way.

I was pretty pissed a few hours ago when I started in this thread but now I find that I am kind of amused. Sadly I have to leave now to do something non pool related.

It has been brought to our attention that there are multiple threads about a possible Schmidt /Harriman match. We know Mark Cantrill started working on this match a couple of days ago and that he has spoken to both players. We were informed last night by Mark Cantrill that both players had agreed verbally with him to do the match. We were told a few hours ago that TAR came in and also made an offer to host the Schmidt /Harriman match.

When Mark Cantrill set about putting this match together, he really had no idea that the level of hostility that existed between the two players was so intense. It did not become apparent until late yesterday afternoon. At that time that he contacted us and shared what he had learned.

Marc and I spent several hours last night and again this afternoon discussing this match. A few minutes ago we had a conference call with both Mark Cantrill and John Schmidt. During that conversation we explained to John Schmidt, who is a Str8 Shots signed player that we did not feel this match was in line with the direction that Str8 Shots intends to take the players, the team, or the company. We understand why this match is such a hot topic and why it would be an exceptional PPV event. The reasons that make this match so attractive to those that would buy it, are the very reasons we feel it is not in John’s best interest.

We chose several professional players to be a part of team Str8 Shots because they are all great people. Every one of them has a contract with us. In that contract it states that they will get permission from Str8 Shots management before engaging in activities, or aligning themselves, with individuals or activities that could be potentially harmful to their images, the company’s image, or the industry’s image.

When we plan matches, we have a purpose for them above and beyond providing the players with opportunities to test their skills or generate some additional income. Our opinion is that this match only serves to create additional animosity between these players and that is not what we want for any player; whether they are associated with this company or not.

We understand that both offers made to the men provided them with the potential to make several thousand dollars. We are also aware that the money to be made off of this PPV match by Str8 Shots or TAR could be quite substantial. That being said, we have asked John Schmidt NOT to do this match. John Schmidt will be compensated by Str8 Shots for the potential loss of income. He has generously offered to donate a portion of those monies to the Str8 Shots Juniors program.

Thank you for your time. I hope you all have a wonderful evening.

I don't like it all, but if he's under contract and y'all don't want him to play, then that's that.

You get respect points in my book though if you do compensate John for the lost of income, since it doesn't appear that you are required to do so.

Cute-- I'll quote myself:

"Anyone who thinks that because they can type a million words per minute and has a great vocabulary means they can beat me on that alone better be gambling with their own money. I eat vocab propeller heads for breakfast. Anyone who plays Scrabble at any decent clip knows that Scrabble is all about board control ---- and I play 'error-free' in that regard."

How about you and I play a race to 3 in Scrabble-- and if I win Str8 Shots let's the match move forward and if I lose you and Kimmy can skip around the May Day pole chirping about how you got lucky and pulled the Z, Q and X in each game and how you really showed me.

After seeing how this thread has developed, if the OP dared to reply to anyone, she would be eaten alive like a lamb in a den of wolves on this forum.

I would to challenge JAM to a animal id. contest:D:thumbup:;)

I haven't been playing Scrabble in recent times, but if I decide to play you some, I will need about a month to practice up. Finding time in my workday to play Scrabble, though, is difficult. Truth be told, I don't have much incentive to play you, not that I can't wit, mind you, but I just don't have the desire to follow through right now. Since Feds are back in full swing, I'm busy as a bee, trying make enough money to pay 4Q taxes. I feel like a giant alligater in a gerbil wheel trying to make ends meet every tax quarter.

I used to belong to a Scrabble Club many moons ago. We had tournaments and prizes. It was a great social gathering. We'd have pot luck Sunday dinners. It was a lot of fun. So I may play you some Scrabble sine die, but for now, I have a date with Uncle Sam.:(

That said, you really can't beat me. Has nothing to do with my typing speed. I know the game inside and out. Board strategies are key. I could probably spot you the Z or the Q or the X and still win. ;)

You are so crossed up I dont even know where to start.

I'm fine with competing. In the past I vouched for Mark Cantrell to Shane before he did the Earl match. If I was out to screw everyone else would I have done that?

Mark starts a thread about a Schmidt/Harriman match days ago. If the guys will play I am going to make an offer. Thats called competition in the market when people have a choice. Then they come back and say "Oh we didnt know these guys had a history."

I have never stood in the way of any player doing anything. All I did was make an offer when the topic of the match came up. The other party didnt come back and say "We will make you a better offer." They took their ball and went home. Which one would you say has a problem with competition? I wasnt going to say anything about them trying to make the match till they came with BS about not knowing what the history was and that instead of doing it they were just going to block it.

i was not refering to you personaly although your post seems to imply you took it personal. i never implied you were out to screw anyone and for that matter i dont think str8shots is out to screw you either.

i do agree with your view of competition.

what i do not agree with is your assumption that mark and str8shots were aware of the hatred john and danny have for each other.
just because most posters in this thread are aware does not mean every one who visits this forum was aware.

just like most in this thread is not aware of mark working for str8shots and exactly what is str8shots. yea i know they have not been here as long as you but the same logic still applies. i was aware of what they are doing for a while so i have what i feel is a better understanding of what they are trying to accomplish.

You ain't your bf where you can spot the world on the blind. If you spotted me those letters, it'd look like the Intuit Eskimos clubbing a baby seal....pink ice and all. I'm always ready....don't need to practice up.

What was your rating at the International Scrabble Club?

I don't think the International Scrabble Club was in existence when I was playing. :embarrassed2:

Baloney. He had his chance, and couldn't get the job done so he washed his hands of it. What you and he are saying is that those two can only ever play for again for him. I don't think they (John and Danny) would agree to that at all.

Mark set up a pool match between them. Thought it would be good pool. As soon as the match was set, Justin jumped in and he and others started playing the animosity angle, not the pool angle. That's not what the company Mark works for is about, so they naturally don't want their player involved in something like that. They are about promoting pool, not animosity and train wrecks between two players. If that's what you really want to watch, and what Justin really wants to promote just because it sells, (which I don't think he does) then let him put on a Shawn Putnam/Earl Strickland match. Or a Hatch/ Strickland match. There will be plenty of animosity.

And for Justin, who represents a company, to now start making innuendos about charity scams, and that is what Kimberly might be about, is just plain a low blow and sour apples. I had tons of respect for Justin before this thread, now I am finding myself re-thinking that.

I followed Mark's thread and never did see where Danny responded at all, much less agreed to a match. I could be wrong, but I don't think this match was ever set.

Edit; I now see the OP in this thread claims the match was set, for what that's worth.

I would like to challenge the word "alligater" please.

Ah, but playing Scrabble, this faux pas would not occur. Typing 150-plus WPM on this forum between typing 150-plus WPM banging pages is quite different than competing in a heated Scrabble match for the cheese-nips when I am *not* typing 150-plus WPM. I am in the multitasking mode right now. :D
