GPPA League by Mike Sigel: $250,000 first prize and $1 million guaranteed

$TAKE HORSE...You must have missed the part where I said this was 20 years ago. It was true. I had a small enough league that I knew every player, and their skill level, personally. It was that way for 4 years...then I sold the league. It didn't last 2 years, after I left. Like I said before, if the scorekeeping is done properly, sandbagging doesn't work. That was mandatory in my league. Every player had to know how, and take part in keeping score. It was a fun, fair league for my players when I ran it.

No thanks on trying to deal with Congress...60+% of the people want to kick them all out, and start over. Probably not a bad idea. :D

Ken...Apology accepted...guess I missed the joke!

I havent read every post but the one about the APA and sandbagging where no one does it was interesting. If that is true then the league operator needs to take over the govt and oust all the "sandbagging" senators, congressmen...etc. That is indeed a huge statement and if its a fact, I would lay a doughnut to a biscuit that its the only one in the country. I know guys who play off handed during the "dump" season or non-qualifying matches and no one can tell it. I have seen guys who play strong shortstop speed look like legitimate skill level 4s or 5s when they want to. Who knows, maybe all 700 are sandbagging.....;)

People complain about pool going nowhere and as soon as someone tries something innovative that may grow the sport rather than getting behind it or at least being positive the conspiracy theorists and negative thinkers come out. And we wonder why pool doesn't grow!

Wedge

That's certainly one way to look at it. Of course, another way to see it is that we have concerned citizens of the pool community wishing to avoid yet another of the disasters that continue to cause pool to take further step backward and downward rather than grow.

Some skepticism of any new venture in pool has been earned by the failings of some of those in the past.

Hello Frank
We have a commitment from a major surety company. We are in the process of providing them with the documentation that the league has been organized with league operators and a player base. BEFORE THE FIRST MATCH IS PLAYED THE BOND WILL BE IN EFFECT.
Thanks
Mike

Did you ask him if the source of the capital investment was Kevin Trudeau? If so, the funds are illegal. Ask the FCC.

If not, PERFECT -- we have a new league :)

Mike said it is definitely not Kevin. He is not however disclosing the investors name which is probably a smart decision.

When will it be up in Frederick? I may drive up there to check it out. Been a long while. They have a nice Chico store there across from the pool room, which I love their clothes and jewelry. :grin-loving:

Frank...While Mike may not have to disclose the identity of his "backer", I think the money would have to be held in escrow, by a private party (like dmgwalsh did with JA for the US Open last month), where it could be verified that it would actually be paid out...as opposed to "we'll pay that much as long as we get X number of teams that play X number of weeks". JMO Best wishes to Mike and the GPPL!

I believe it will be on Wednesday nights but don't quote me on that.

The premise is like poker. Fast games, potential for big money and anyone has a chance. The way it was explained to me is that its like facing a run out player every time you step to the table. Lots of offense, fast play and lots of action.

Mike is making some sort of big announcement Monday regarding a 'big name' coming on board.

mike sigel>>gppa pool league>>global information network>>kevin trudeau
does it seem like a good idea now???????

Wedge posted news about this earlier, but Mike Sigel has just announced it formally on his Facebook page.

Global Pool Players Association Presents

A NEW HANDICAP SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY MIKE SIGEL: $1 MILLION GUARANTEED

FIRST PRIZE - $250,000

Key points:
1. The Sigel Handicap System is the most fair system ever created and allows almost anyone to compete on an equal level regardless of previous experience.
2. About 1 in 7 teams will be going to Las Vegas for our annual event compared to 1 in 50 teams for other leagues.
3. Any 5 players can make a team regardless of ability and that team can stay together as long as they would like. A player does not need a particular handicap to make a team. The roster allows for up to 3 alternate players.
4. No other league can offer what GPPA can today.
5. We offer full transparency both to the League Operator and the players. Everyone will be able to review the stats and placement in the ranks.

Let me get this straight.

Two people are playing a game of 8 ball. When one person has a turn he can use one of his "free plays" and just PICK THE BALL UP and put where ever he wants and shoot. No way, that's got to be a joke.

I listened to Mike explain his GPPG League for about 45 min. last night at Sand Castles in Jersey. Either it's the worst format ever and it will not get off the ground or it's brilliant and will pull tons of new players in. He seems like he has all the bases covered against sandbagging and if he has the money/investors he might just have a winner. Johnnyt

I watched the you tube interview with Mike about the new league. Think he covered all the bases. Sounds interesting; I'd give it shot and see what happens. He did say that Johnny Archer is behind it also now. Is Johnny behind everything pool related??? lol?

After watching Sigel do a run through of his system on he accustats game show last night I like his idea. The handicap is from zero to six and the handicap equals the number of times the player gets ball in hand during a game of 8 ball.

Mike's challenge will be getting league operators around the nation to sign on. This system won't completely eliminate sandbagging but will make it harder. I like it better than the other national handicap league systems. If Mike can get the thing up and running nationwide I believe it will catch on once people are exposed to it.

At 1 hour 37 minutes of this video Mike has a couple players do a demonstration.

I tend to agree with you, makes it tough to sandbag and gives poor players a chance.

Which high level players will shun immediately,

And of course any league is only as good as its high level players..

There will be pros in this because there is a big payday at the end of the rainbow. $250,000 for 1st place will bring a lot of them out IMO. Johnnyt

It might be the only game in town for pros, if you catch my drift. :embarrassed2:
