What would be the ultimate 1 Pocket match?

I would like to see SVB vs. Frost. The upside to this match is that both are citizens of the country. They are arguably the the two best American one pocket players.

Earl Strickland vs Keith McCready would be interesting....cameraman would
not be wasting much time wih a wedge or nitting.

It's not one we can see, unfortunately:

Efren in his prime vs. Ronnie Allen in his prime.

Yep, ultimate was the word used.....
...so it has to be Ronnie and Efren...in their prime.

an all-round would be interesting also..
Ronnie may have been more versatile

I think a race to 20 over 2 days would not be so bad, I think he was gassed in this last TAR match after 2 weeks of straight pool playing Earl and the DCC. Alex or Shane vs Frost would be epic in a long race as long as The Freezer shows up to play his best game because I know Alex and Shane will.

Could take out that variable by just having Alex and Shane...

TOTALLY agree with you on this one, PoolBum.
Two of the greatest one-hole players that I have ever heard of.
This match would be Uber-defensive with some very intelligent and imaginative moves.

I would PAY some serious cash to sweat this action.
The closest we probably could have gotten to this—if Efren was even playing one-hole then—
was Allen & Reyes around the mid 1980s.

What a match that would have been to see!!!!

A few years ago I got a surprise when I did a one pocket Challenge match with Scott Frost and Efren at how many people came to the event and how many bought the DVD.
So Just recently I was looking to have a rematch with Scott and Efren but he had to leave today so there was no chance to do it. So it got me thinking, since 1 Pocket is maybe a more purist game and a smaller % of fans obviously than 8-ball lets say. What would be the ultimate 1 pocket match that people would love to see?

I have a couple of thoughts.

Keith McCready vs Earl or Alex P or Scott

Scott Vs Efen or Shane or obviously Efren

What are your thoughts?

Efren, svb joy to watch accurate one pocket players, add Dennis O and maybe Busty other than that I will not buy the stream,

this is easy Efren and Ronny Allen would of been the best match of all time

Efren in his prime and Ronnie is his prime, Efren would have destroyed him. I think Efren in his prime is 9-7 better over every player who has existed.

Many think Frost is the best, it is hard to argue with success. He has beat Alex and Shane for money in one pocket and also lost to Alex that last time. Frost has won the biggest money in recent pool history with his battle with Dippy. He has finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the DCC One Pocket the past 5 years which is very impressive.

Ronnie more versatile?? no way -- Efren definitely has proven his versatility with all kinds of all-around and different discipline titles. not even close, unless you are talking one-handed.

But while we are on the "what if" topic -- how about what if Efren had been playing One Pocket since his teens, like Ronnie did. again, no contest!!

Problem with Scott, from what i hear and read is that he is not 100% dedicated to pool, he flip flop. DCC is race to 3 anyone's game, race to 10 or 20 he has no chance IMO. Scott's power one pocket does not work well on long races.

If a match gets set up I will take some odds or games on the wire and take Frost in a long race.

None of the players of yesteryear could compete with the current top one pocket players. I have seen them all including Ronnie Allen in his prime and the old guys just couldn't run the balls this new group does. Just look at how the top 20 or so bank, move defensively, and run balls. It's simply amazing. Now there is one old player who I did see play who might be able to stay close with this new crop and that would be Bugs Rucker in his prime. He could bank out of trouble better than anyone I ever saw and this edge would keep him close. But in the end even his banking abilities couldn't stop the barrage of ball running this new group possess. Look at what Shane just did to Efren in their TAR match. Come on, really, he just dominated Efren in one pocket. There are several others who might do the same in match play. If were are talking about playing on the current tables, balls and cloth I just don't see any yesteryear players coming close.
