I agree with TOI only to correct a bad stroke on long and thin cuts. Plus you only can use it if you shoot hard otherwise swerve becomes dominate and defeats the purpose, especially near rail shots or a bit jacked up. But good you kept on this! Well! CJ is champ! he can say things and people believe in him!!

3andstop,

In your linked post you do mention using a bit of inside on a long straight in shot to make it easier. The funny thing is -- this is the one shot that CJ says NOT to use his "TOI" technique.

I've always scratched my head at this. If the technique works as directed, why would you not employ it on these straight ins?

My problem is that when facing a straight-in shot, I can never figure out if "inside" means left or right english. I suspect CJ is having the same issue.

No,check back, I said "nearly straight in".:) On the dead straight ins that feel uncomfortable to me, I let go of the cue at contact or a split fraction before. I just let it rest on the tip of my middle finger. (Waiting for new DVD, "Finger tip is the teacher". :grin-square:

The wrist release is also the teacher.

it had to be a signed five dollar bill though

I think 7 million is fair, but my neighbor says settle out of court for 5 bucks. :embarrassed2:

Me and my buddy are always being a signed one dollar bill. It means more to us than winning a hundred dollars.

So far in the end he is up one signed dollar.

You mean I should get a signed dollar from CJ, or I should sign one and give it to him? :)

Is this Luther Lassiter...no, it can't be you mentioned "inside english"

Is this Luther Lassiter...no, it can't be you mentioned "inside english" - you must not have seen the DVD!!! LoL

TOI is NOT inside english. If you spin the cue ball with "inside english" you're going to have a very frustrating pool career indeed. ;)

Your post brought back something I was taught about 40 yrs ago. Until I read your post it was something that I have grown accustomed to do without thought, but it so vividly made me remember, I'll share it. I'm just reminiscing here so if you want the short version just go to the last paragraph.

When I was 16 or 17 and beginning to get very serious about the game, I hung out at a pool room where the counter man would always shoot pool on table 1 by himself until someone needed help.

At the time he was about 65 or 70yrs old. The man would run hundreds of balls without a miss in between customers, phone calls, distractions, whatever. I'd sit for hours and watch him.

Now and again he'd get out of line and pop in long nearly straight shots in the heart of the pocket. This one day I said to him, that's one of the shots that stops me all the time, I seem to alway spin them out without realizing it.

He said to me, when you know you have a problem with a shot fix it. He said he did the same thing often until he began using ever so slightly a touch of inside english on those shots to (as he called it) "straighten them out". Since then it's become an important tool in the toolbox. FWIW.

You must have highlighted the wrong words. The ones you highlighted said "an ever so slight touch of inside english". Where did you get spin from that?

You robbed the post, and you are trying to wiggle out of it. I know you are very wiley, sort of clever like a fox or coyote.

My neighbor said we'll see you in court if you don't come up with the 4 ... I mean 5 bucks. But I warn you, then we're going for the entire 7 million. :nanner:

Well applying English is the act of hitting off center to the left or right of the cueball to apply spin... everyone here, except for CJ, has the common sense to know what you meant by it by just hitting slightly inside and not applying spin.

I agree. CJ apparently doesn't like the word "english" being paired with his "TOI." So I guess CJ needs to change his acronym thusly:

[T]ouch [O]f [I]nside [L]acking [E]nglish [T]erm

...or TOILET for short.
