Holy son of a motherless goat.... that's the hottest setup I've ever seen in my life.
I do have one specific question with a brief follow-up question:
1) Are you married or have a long-term gf?
2) If so, how on earth do you get to build the Trump Castle of Reloading Barns without the wife/gf chirping up a storm and picking a fight and/or demanding equal exposure to get to build a sister barn on the caddy-corner side of the property to knit, store antiques and build a Martha Stewart-like cooking suite? I just want to learn from someone who has the move figured out, because I haven't figure it out yet. Just like blowing $2/bullet match-grade .308 bullets non-stop trying to zero-in the windage and elevation settings on your scope (when your scope mount is loose), I've been spinning my wheels on trying zero-in the woman settings.
Here's what I used to sweat and this theme would have been accurate for the last few exes>>>

Been married many years. Actually it was her idea as I had a lot of the cabinets etc. In a spare bedroom. Although my main career was corporate sales, I've been a Charter Capt. for over 30 years. ( specializing in Giant Tarpon on fly rod) it only made sense to build a proper shop. ( can't wait to finish it & move all my tackle in.)

It's amazing how much gear (or "Got to Have its!" ) you acquire over the years. I planned the loft for all my overstock. It's full of stacked bins, fishing Rod blanks, used brass etc. I can't wait to empty my garage of all my everyday tackle. Even though the barn has AC, heat & is Dehumidified I'll continue to keep my guns inside the house unless it's something I'm working on. Now that it almost finished I'm am going to weed out "stuff" I haven't used.
I'm not bragging.....but
:I live in a modest 3-bedroom home. In one of the spare bedrooms I have my reloading table set up (w/RCBS and Lee presses). In the closet of that room, I keep a tub full of various calibers of reloadable brass. Over in the next spare bedroom, I keep all my reloading components (powder, primers, manuals, funnels, calipers, dies, scales, etc.) in that closet, along with a spare gun safe, plus all of my gun cleaning equipment, range bags, gun cases, etc. I also keep all my loaded .223 ammo in that closet, as well as all my loaded pistol ammo. In the master bedroom I have my main gun safe, as well as two footlockers containing all of my loaded rifle ammo.
And yes....I am married.
On top of all of that.........
In the garage I have a Skeeter bass boat, two Polaris ATV's, 19 rods and reels, 6 tackle boxes, and a cue lathe set up on a workbench.
In our living room I have a Brunswick 8-foot pool table, 2 pub tables w/four spectator chairs, 6 cue cases of various sizes and about 25 pool cues.
Now, I gotta ask you........do I have a great wife or what?????
The secret was in the selection process....and I knew before I married her that she was going to be the kind of woman that was going to let me do about anything I wanted to (within reason, of course). Nice thing is...she has jumped in there and taken up all of these great pastimes WITH me...and she too enjoys the lifestyle that I have always loved.
I am one lucky man!!!!!

Custom is the way to go. More bang for the same buck.
Keep in mind what the intended use of your rifle will be. For example, you don't want to build a carbine if your intent is long range, precision rifle. With the EO Tech, im guessing you are going for a SHTF/short range rifle?
Spikes uppers and lowers are good to go. Chrome lined barrels are great for everything other than a long range precision rifle. Some feel that the chrome lining can affect accuracy a lil. Nothing to lose sleep over unless you are going for sub MOA accuracy.
Nickle Boron bolts/BCG's are great. Personally, I like nitride better. In a nutshell, NB is a plating and Nitride is more like a coating. The difference is the thickness and how well it adheres to the BCG. There have been reports of NB peeling (much like how chrome can peel). Again, personal preference.

With optics there is really no reason not to build an accurate carbine length rifle. Almost all of our short range benchrest rifles for three hundred yards or less are carbine size. I had no problems putting a slower twist 6BR barrel on the same benchrest rifle and shooting small targets at a half mile or so.
Bill Wylde sent me a picture of a 4.5" group he fired at six hundred yards, with an AR type pistol! The AR top end I built that shot ridiculously tiny groups used a 20" barrel and there are some indications that a sixteen inch barrel might be more accurate. All barrels sag, the shorter the barrel the less the sag as a general statement and the less barrel whip when the rifle is fired.
I left a handful of ideas untested when I quit benchrest. Might get back to it someday.

Agreed, Hu. I didn't use the best analogy by just saying "carbine". The point I was making is that if you set up a rifle for close quarters combat, it may not be suited to do long range precision too.

Maybe....but I'd be willing to bet that all these good people on this thread posting pictures of their high-end firearms (many with multiple high-end firearms) pretty much have all the same stuff around their house too.
Besides...I haven't posted a single picture...so it's really all hearsay now, isn't it?

You are right, one rifle can do all things moderately well but when we want a rifle to be best at one thing we make it less functional for other things. A close combat style rifle wouldn't be my choice for across the course shooting and I sure wouldn't want one of those across the course rifles to defend my home with.
I want to build a light walking varmint rifle just as a play toy but my 20" Bushy with a 2x7 scope on top was completely adequate for everything from close quarters to a quarter mile out or further. It wasn't real light but it balanced very well once I changed the handguard. With the weight between my hands it seemed much lighter than stock. The two-stage Jewell trigger was safe to carry and with an eight ounce take up and four more to make noise it worked very well. I think there has been a redesign and I don't see the lightweight trigger offered from Jewell now, just a one size fits all.
I think that AR's have outstripped 1911's as the gun with the most modifications and add-ons available. I prefer to keep them as clean as possible and if it means I need three or four to do the same job one swiss army knife of an AR can do, well I can live with that! One knock around AR for the truck, one bench AR, one for close quarter home defense, one with the potential to reach out and touch someone, one or two spares just in case . . . :thumbup:
