Well, you know you can and most likely will get as many answers as there are repliers to a question like this since, in the end, it is a preference thing as much as an experience with many tips thing.
But, I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway.
I've never tried a tip that cost more than 5 or 6 bucks, not cause I can't afford to, but because I think I deserve a little Vaseline when I'm getting screwed.
I've used Elkmaster, Le Pro, Milk Duds, and Triangle among a few others. Triangle now for many years with no interest in trying the more expensive layered tips.
I did come across the Tiger Emerald layered tip that was very reasonably priced and now, after trying them, I like them best of all, by far. Not only playability and price, but also nice material to install and shape. I think they should be on your "give it a try" list as well.
