Dragon Women's Event Draws Ire

There is no lowering of the bar. The bar is laying on the floor. There is a reason the BCA no longer has the income it once had and it is not Charlie Williams.
This mess is just one more example of people trying to tear shit down instead of helping people build things up. The useless WPA is going to ban players from playing this event. Let the players decide for themselves if playing is right for them. How many professional women's tournaments have there been in the last three years in the US? Six maybe seven? Yeah, lets have even less tournaments and see if that grows the sport! That makes perfect sense!

So CW, JA and all of the others were trying to tear stuff down when they threatened a no-show unless events had a minimum added? Gotcha!

Like Charlie, don't like Charlie, at least he is trying to run an event for the women here in the USA. If there was not enough sponsorship money being added how about both the WPA and the BCA help out and get more companies involved. Support pool in the states instead of trying to tear down what little we have going on here. It is no wonder why we have no professional pool when we allow idiots like Ian Anderson keep events from growing.

That is warped logic
Don't think anyone is stopping CW from organising his mini tourneys (like what he does with MMA etc) - just don't be sneaky and ride on "World title"
WPA is doing QC which sadly is badly needed. :D

+1 Well said, at last someone who understands what governing bodies do.
Governing bodies like FIFA are imperfect, flawed with spots of corruption etc. but what they do at least is police, administer the game and enforce QC. They are like cops, auditors, enforcement authorities so they are not popular but I feel safer with them around. Muahahahaha :D

You know, if that's the line of "thinking" you're going to use, I'm sure there are a few bars that will be happy to do a $20 entry fee, $100 added, "World" championship tournament.

Don't tear it down, just be sure to blindly support it.

My opinion after listening to Ian on ABR last night

After listening to Ian it is apparent that he gave DP a viable out. Rename the tournament and put out a press release that it has nothing to do with the former or any other World 10 Ball Tournament...case closed. Now this was Ian's opinion and not that necessarily the WPA Boards.

Having said that I feel the tournament would not have or will not be a success as the $520 entry fee is way to much for a $10K added event. As Ian said with the cost of travel, hotel and food it just isn't worth it to most players. Have to see what DP says on ABR tomorrow night.

Charlie Williams and Cindy Lee both blow, and ALWAYS play favorites. Screw them both, they deserve this. Charlie has scarred plenty of women with his B.S. Antics over the years, it's a shame they have to depend on this predator to run events for them.
 
I think Charlie just wanted to sneak into another female player's hotel room during the event. JMO, I could be wrong.
 
The market at work... well, kinda... the WPA does exert some non-market powers due to its sanctioning and some funding via governmental and intergovernmental bodies, particularly in Asia.
 
I listened to Cindy Lee's podcast. It was not a very moving or convincing case for Dragon's version of things.

Cindy came across as dodgy and a bit evasive. When asked certajn pointed questions, she attempted to talk around them and deflect.

Kudos to Mike Howerton for keeping the jnterview on point and asking the tough questions.

They do the same thing with the 14.1 event and continue to be unchallenged. They've even established their very own 14.1 hall of fame.

Why wouldn't they think they could get away with it again for the 10-ball event? Why stop now?

They were unprepared for this kind of response from the WPA or they would have come up with a better plan and a better explanation.

Sometimes the best thing an organization can do for it's sport is to say no, even if they're not in the position to replace the event immediately. It's better than lowering the bar, resulting in lower standards worldwide, which would really hurt the players in the long-run.
