Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

My take on the players not going is that's its ok with all of us. I completely understand not wanting to go. If I didn't make the team it would be very easy for me to say ya I would've went anyway. Truth is that would be very hard to fly to England sit and watch the Mosconi Cup. Now I may have went bc it may have improved my chances of being on next year but trust me none of the players are upset or mad that the 3 "bailed out on us." That's just the way I see it.

Dude you are quickly becoming one of my favorite players. Great play and a great attitude. Good luck in England

Thank you for posting this from a MC player's take on it. The best of rolls to you at the cup. Johnnyt

Classy young man! I'll be pulling for you and the team at the Mosconi Cup.

hey jb play hard, have a great time, respect the game and you will be ok.
tommy and dago will be thinking of you and the team.

There's nothing hard about understanding they broke their word.

If they weren't committed to going they shouldn't have stepped forward in the first place. Pretty simple, really.

Lou Figueroa

Lou, YOU say they broke their word! How do you know that to be true? Heaven forbid you're guessing this is the case, because I've never seen that in print anywhere before, and I've been following the progress of this team from the get go.

Thank you Justin, just as I expected and said on here a few pages back. Once more, good luck over there bud. Just keep your head down and your belly on the table. Keith used to say that and it worked pretty good for him. You're cut from the same mold, a pool gunslinger!

I think that the powers that be assumed the three that didn't make the team would be thrilled to go. You know what happens when you assume. Johnnyt

It is up to each man to work out his own salvation.

Just my spin on this Peyton Place episode:

"IF" I committed to going with the USA Mosconi Cup Team regardless of whether I was picked to play, I would go even though I would be reluctant to do so for various reasons.

I know at least one USA Mosconi Cup player who truly believes that they can win and wouldn't be surprised if all of them believe they can get the job done.

Schmidt gets a lot of flack and sometimes for valid reasons but it is my opinion that he has enormous talent and if he practices like he wants to win, he could easily have the best record of all his team mates. His record in this past year on the pool table hasn't been stellar for sure.

I won't hang Sossei, Shuff and Dominguez in effigy like some are want to and understand that each of them has to make their own decisions. However with their decisions, comes the criticism that they must endure. Most likely, like many of us, the non-players of the USA Mosconi Cup team didn't consider all of the ramifications of deciding that they wouldn't attend this epic and possibly pivotal event.

The team concept especially in pool, is alien to most American players but Mark's idea of building a team is a good one but it may take a while for it to gel.

In the meantime, I am confident that much has been learned by all and better decisions and better communication will be the order of the day.

As to Mark Wilson answering to this kangaroo court, I can barely hold back a large belly laugh.

In the meantime, Go USA!

P.S. Kudos to Ray Hansen of PoolActionTV.com for going to Missouri to livestream some of the preparations of the USA Mosconi Cup Team.

Team.

That's supposed to mean something.

There should be a pretty good reason to 'not' follow through on a plan that might affect 'the team'.

Don't make a commitment if you can't follow through. (Assuming a commitment was made or understood).

Plus - you are only as good as your word. I know that this is the kind of thing I would remember.

This is not an opportunity to bash pool - this is the chance to explain that personal gain is not the criteria when 'team' is involved.

Mark Griffin

All I can say is I would go to support the team .
We can use all the help over there .
Go USA

This is the most compelling statement in the thread and....

This is the most compelling statement in the thread and {coincidentally} what actually happened.

The players respectively declined, and I'm optimistic they will get another chance (to actually play) in the future. Maybe by that time "America" will have heard of the Mosconi Cup and subsidize the players.........priceless ;)

How about respectfully declined the offer!

No negative connotation!

You are smart enough to know this and just being difficult.

I agree; however, receiving criticism for a decision and being accused of breaking your WORD publicly are two different things.

I consider keeping my word of paramount importance and if someone publicly falsely accused me of breaking my word, there would be a retraction or someone getting knocked out.

Still don't believe Corey should be there. Shane spots him the 5 and 6 playing 10-ball. What kind of confidence do you think Corey has ??

News flash
He could spot players on team eur the same thing .
Until you play Svb you really don't know what that spot is worth .
It's not as big as people think

If your not upset then why did you say they "bailed out on us" ???

That must be how you see it! Otherwise, you would have worded it differently.

most of us know you should have been on this year's team

For the record, most of us know you should have been on this year's team.

I'm not sure personal popularity is the best way to pick a team, but who knows, stranger things have happened.

There are a lot of really good players these days, however, there's only a few that won't "dog it" under the pressure of London's aggressive fans. I know the last rack I cleared to win the Mosconi Cup was the most pressure I'd ever felt (playing pool).....maybe having Earl Strickland as a partner had something to do with it. ;)

You are one of those type players, Chris - the "powers that be" simply won't recognize what your level really is........yet!
