Who would win?

I've read that the following players are very good if not great golfers: Earl, Corey Deuel, John Schmidt, etc.

I remember Schmidt claiming in a TAR interview that he is the best golfer in terms of pro pool players.

Anybody have any knowledge as to who would win or be most competitive?

Black Nate, from the DC area!

john schimdt

i will stake john s. vs. any pro pool player at golf gary owner of garys victor billiards, give me a call.

schmidty.
i've seen him claim on multiple occasions that there's not a player out there that's won a pro 9 ball tournament that could take him. haha

Nice bet.
I wonder which pro pool player could even give Schmidt any competition.
I don't think Earl plays much anymore. At Earl's best in golf, I don't think
Schmidt would have to like it.

Didn't Earl win a few tough local tournaments in North Carolina?

If I recall correctly I think he said during a TAR interview that he pondered professional golf at that time before realizing that he just wasn't talented enough- he thought he could have been if he had dedicated himself to golf earlier- that it is too difficult to be great at both sports.

Jim Wych attended university on a golf scholarship. From what I know, he's still a scratch golfer, and plays about 5 rounds a year.

There is a player named Forest in Dallas a pro pool player who used to play good golf

I would bet on him against any pool player

or let them shoot at even par on any one of several courses in Dallas

I guess it depends on how one defines pro pool player. Perhaps there are local pro level guys out there who are the best- I was wondering more about well not upper echelon guys.

Asked differently,... Is there anyone who would play Schmidt in a pool+golf match? Say...a race to 21 9b followed by 18 holes of golf?

Any idea if he used to live in the dc area?

Best golfer

The Mighty Mizz was pretty sporty .Bob Muiccei brouht Earl to our tourn. once they thought the course was to tough.Earl didnt win the pool tourn. either.A scratch golfer is like 8 shots short of making it on the pro tour. those guys are in another sphere.Ronnie Allen would have gambled with all the pro pool players.

a split a best

Put that way and restricting "pro" player to someone that does or has played regularly in the major tournaments I think the best anyone is playing for is a split. I suspect John can win this bet playing both games even but can't lose!

i don't know of anyone that would be playing for more than a split in this one. especially if it's a course john's played before. i know he used to carry a handicap of +1 or 2...so i'd figure he's still right at or a little better than scratch these days. change the 9 ball to 14.1 and there's definitely nobody that would take it. haha

Pro Pool Golf Tournament

Just a few points of clarity with no malice aforethought and no disrespect intended. to a couple of these post. A plus 1 or plus 2 while exceptional is not scratch. Most people that claim to be one or two handicap can't play to that and certainly not from championship tees. They might not even be able to do it from the white tees. If John Schmidt is a legitimate scratch golfer from the championship tees he is in the wrong sport. He could take his golf game along with pool resume and do corporate outings, have more fun and make more money. There is not eight strokes difference from a scratch golfer from the championship tees and many PGA Tour golfers. Most PGA tour players are probably -5 to - 6 if they had established handicaps which they have no reason to do. Earl never won any significant tournaments in North Carolina. He did win a Club Championship at his club in NC. In early 80's. John Rollins a PGA TOUR WINNER who still plays is probably the best pool player on Tour and he is not going to beat John Schmidt heads up in pool unless it was a race to one or two. John , Johnny, Earl and any other pro pool player would easily get three a side from the championship tees from any PGA TOUR PLAYER. The other thing to remember is that playing the ball down as it lies and playing by the rules will add two to five strokes to most players score .

well...there are a couple things wrong with your post as well...a plus 1 or 2 handicap would imply that you're averaging around a couple strokes UNDER par. tour players are PLUS handicaps not minus handicaps. that would imply that you would need to ADD strokes to get them back to even par. that said, i'm pretty confident john spends most of his time playing from the tips. he used to play in every big money game in the pensacola area when he lived down there. the difference between a scratch player and a tour player has more to do with consistency than anything else. being able to put those rounds together 4 days in a row is what separates mini tour golfers from tour players.
