we have some very angry "dinosaurs"

Yes, but we have some very angry "dinosaurs" - not sure why ;)
th

You gotta be kidding me. The inability of this forum to come out of a 1950s timewarp, and reinvent itself as somewhere attractive to a younger crowd, is its major failing.

I cringe at half the threads on here. The nostalgic backslapping is nauseating, and the more america becomes isolated and left behind, the worse it becomes. Pool in america (and this forum) has NO CHANCE until you ditch the dinosaurs.

Do it. Do it today.

It's not really about ditching the dinosaurs...

I like healthy debate and discussion. Unfortunately, most people on this site are just too sensitive and this quashes a lot of this back and forth.

Then you get more and more hit and run posts, where someone posts something and people respond to it but the original poster is nowhere to be found.

I like communicating on a forum more than I do on Facebook. Facebook is where I go when I want to exchange recipes or talk about my knitting, or when I just can't get through the day without seeing an inspirational message or photo that was copied from somewhere on the internet.

I come to AZ to think and talk about pool stuff.

Anyone who frequents TSF will notice they run a member of the year thread around this time of year. I think its a really good idea and it helps let posters know their contributions are appreciated, as well as providing lots of banter. So here goes....

From now until the end of the year you have a chance to vote for your top 3 posters of the year. Posters that made you giggle, posters that have offered advice, posters that make you look forward to log in to AzB.

You have one vote, make it count. A simple 1st - [insert username], 2nd - [insert username] and 3rd - [insert username] will be enough. Feel free to add comments on others if you feel the need, but to keep it easier to tot up the votes please add them after you've stated your vote.

Scoring is as follows - 1st - 6 points, 2nd - 3 points, 3rd - 1 point.

Once we have a few votes in I will tot them up and post the current scores every so often.

Its just for fun, and an attempt to keep the forum light hearted and less depressing. Hope you all enjoy. Happy voting :-)

You have way more than a few votes...how about totaling them up buddy!!! Probably a bit tough as some placed two names under their 3rd place voted...probably just need to nullify that vote.

Yeah I shall be totalling them up and posting the current top 5 tomorrow. Its late here and I think the job of totalling them up requires some paper a pen and some serious back tracking through the thread.

I'm not sure what to do about the two votes for 3rd thing...any advice people? Half a point or zero? Also some users have voted by peoples names...im not big on peoples actual names on here so I'm probably going to have to ask people to clarify with usernames.

I also think a little gift should go to the winner. I'm sure I can get a little 'Member Of The Year' trophy made online and shipped to the winners address for less than 20 dollars. It will be a nice memento I think.

Of the many interesting and prolific members we have here, this year I would give it to Jay Helfert. He did a lot for US and for the US Open. He told us what was happening and risked the heat of his participation. Jay's participation in this forum is unwavering.

Also, in memoriam, Kevin Brewer, a guy who would never let you down, or maybe never let you up; too smart, too clever, too crazy and way too young when he left us.

You made it clear in your original post

Zero if people didn't follow the guidelines which if not followed makes it very difficult for you to total up the votes.

Yeah, it wouldn't be fair is someone won by half a point. There are a few stand outs in this thread and most can probably guess already which users will be on the running. Like I said, ill tot up tomorrow and post a currant top 5. Actually now I think about it it will probably be more beneficial to post users scores in the entirety of the thread to use as a back checker so I don't have to start from the beginning next time I total it all up. Cheers for the input.

Not to mention ironic.
