An Open Discussion about an improper Banning

You didn't have the heart to bet.

I learned that from RKC -- act like you know everything and everyone else knows nothing. Then no one questions you (or takes your bet).

No, I just called your bluff, that's all, because you knew you couldn't back up your claim;)

coming from the guy that was accused of lying for months about "the incredible case of the missing rails"

I'm the most popular kid on the playground, which is why you, and all the other kids like you....want to keep hanging on my coat tails, because it makes you all seem important somehow, because together...you're all going to make this world a better place to live, and make pool the greatest game ever played because you guys have all the answers;)

Very well said Mike! This is the reason I rarely post my opinion, and when I do, it's a one sentence response and I'm done. I don't have to make numerous replies to make myself feel better.

This is not an open discussion about an improper banning. It might have started off that way, but as is almost always the case, the insults started and the thread is out of control.

From reading this thread (and reported posts in my email), every single user here is the reason why every other user will never log in again. First it was Barton that was single handedly ruining the forums. Then it was CJ. Now it is RKC.

Fer crying out loud guys. Can you give the insults a rest? Don't like someone? IGNORE THEM. How hard is that to understand? It is an online forum? If you win a battle here, you have won NOTHING!!!

You still can't make any more balls than you could before, and the game is still a mess.

This is like dealing with children.

Thank You Mike!

Mike,

A very sincere "Thank You" for reading and posting into this thread. I had noticed a little bit different moderation lately and figured it was new mod's getting their feet wet. Maybe some of it is, maybe it is old "mod's" being a bit more active!

Thank you also for clarifying that Russ received a short ban before some good posters got out of joint enough to get themselves in trouble. Can't argue with that, Glen hung bait out there and Russ took it. Bad situation but it is what it is.

This thread is a pretty strong indication of frustrations with uneven moderation boiling over as they have many times over the time I have been here. It is very hard to expect people to toe a line when it is a wide wavering gray blur. For people to toe a line there has to be one.

As my posts lately have indicated, moderation is a thankless and near impossible job I want no part of. Never-the-less, a forum or set of forums can't exist long without moderation. It degenerates into an insult to jr high school students to call it juvenile behavior, garbage filled site where every title is full of language that loses it's appeal to most people by the time they are twelve or thirteen.

Your site needs moderation that people can understand. I believe that many posters genuinely don't understand the moderation on this site. Give the posters and the moderators some firmer guidelines to go by. I don't know how difficult it would be but some indication of how long someone is banned or approximation might keep others from getting in hot water over what they feel are unjust bans too. Few would object to Russ getting a few days or a week off, many would object to him getting a year or lifetime ban for responding to an attack with what was not a long rant although was admittedly over the top.

I haven't checked the health of the site lately but checks in years past have indicated that it's health had peaked and was on the downhill. Somewhat the natural lifetime of websites but there are a few exceptions. I hope AZB can be one of them. Keeping the "tone" of the forums on track with fair and even handed moderation can help in that direction.

Good luck with present efforts to improve organization of the site!

You put together furniture for a living. Get the **** over yourself. We comment on your posts because it's hilarious to think someone who puts cloth on a table would think of themselves as Michael Jordan. Hilarious and borderline sad that you don't understand that.

...I've told him that once I get to California and anywhere near him I'd redo the rails on his table for FREEEEEEEEE just to make him happy, no problem...

I've been in California for months now, but because of how Russ has acted over the last few years, I wouldn't touch his table now for no amount of money, whereas before I'd have worked on it for free just to back up the table mechanic that did do the work!

This puzzles me. This incident just happened around Xmas yet you've been in California for months. Seems like plenty of time to contact him before this blow-up occurred to schedule something or discuss a time frame. Sounds like this whole exchange could have been avoided. In fact, in its place there easily might have been a PH thread with glowing praise for your work and for going above and beyond the call to provide service.

I hate to be the be the one to tell you this...

While you are no doubt excellent at what you do, as evidenced by your own self aggrandizement, I'm afraid you may be reaching a bit with this one. You may despise liars, but many here including myself despise hypocrites.

I have swum against the stream and spoke my opinion many times on this forum without ever getting a warning or banning.

I also have never reported anybody or given red rep which seems childish.

My opinion is if you have gone so far as to get yourself banned you must not value your membership highly. It is possible to express an unpopular opinion and not get banned. I just did it.

I figure the people who are hard to deal with on this forum are the same guys who are trouble in a pool hall and pool halls ban people frequently.

He blew his chances of that a long time ago. That's what people here fail to realize, this thing between Poolhustler and myself has been going on for a while now, the thread he was banned in wasn't the first time he's posted an outburst like he did towards me. I told him several times in the past, I'd fix his table for free, but I don't OWE it to him, therefor back off with the comment's, in which he never missed a chance to continue running his mouth at me....so, I made it clear that even if he was willing to hire me to work on his pool table....he'd never be able to do so for any amount of money....end of story.

Then when he.claims that Mark Gregory makes Gold Crowns play better than Diamond's because he knows something that I don't know, that's when he don't know what he's talking about, Mark and I talk all the time, and Mark just a week ago finally agreed with me about the miter angles in the corner pockets being what I use a better playing pockets, and that he was switching specs. That's NOT saying that Mark isn't a great table mechanic, because he is, but for Poolhustler to throw out the remarks that he did about the Brunswicks not playing good with Diamond angles is totally wrong.

With every post there is simply one more reason to have Mark Gregory do your rail work.....

Oh and the new Blue label Diamond's that play so good? The rail angles are what made the difference on those tables. Who's angles did they copy to get there? Hmmmmm, Mark Gregory....... Not RKC.

Good Morning, Mike! you're up rather early with your Romper Room whip?

yáll mods have your hands full with us - especially once a month when everyone is "cycling"; or every full moon; or every Friday; or....

yáll are immediately responsive to a RED FLAG for a post/thread/PM. perhaps this, is key for all of us in helping you out? i've flagged:
#1 - some OP poster (starts w/ an S) who was calling many "gay", "faggot", cussing them out & getting sexually graphic, etc.
#2 - a PM that crossed the line as a "pickup" from someone i didn't know.
Wilson &/or you, responded ASAP. and i mean A.S.A.P.! (Wilson hit that PM flag @ 3amEST when i was @ Mosconi.)

so maybe the RED FLAG is the quick answer to give yáll a heads-up to keep an eye on a thread? you know us well enough to know who is kidding with whom (while other posters unfamiliar might not "get" certain posts that are in jest & jump on some bandwagon) - and to know who is not, so that yáll can step in.

You mean like posting under multiple identities? Puhleeze...

I'm sure it is like dealing with children. Guilty as charged. Perhaps we are treated like children, too.

I think a more visible presence from the mods would be helpful here, just as ordinary posters. That would act as a reminder that there actually IS moderation, as the only time you really notice it is when someone gets banned, which is usually for doing something everyone else was doing anyway. It is arbitrary and unfair at the moment, with the perception the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

A wider debate on what is or isn't allowed is long overdue. I think mods should start this and keep it on topic.

I didn't expect you'd know what you're talking about, but now I know for sure...LMAO

I agree with KC here. While I haven't met Russ, we've talked on Az a few times, and I hope to meet him when I'm out in S CA. I also am friends with RKC, and have seen and played on his work all over the country. I also know Mark Gregory and his work is excellent as well. I've also played on tables he's done all over the country (just did a lesson on one in Savannah GA last Friday). Sometimes everybody gets a little hotheaded, and says things they wish they hadn't. It's very true that you should type a response, and wait 5 minutes before hitting the post button! LOL

I like Russ and I like RKC, also.

I know these guys had some history regarding Russ wanting his table done by RKC some time ago but Glen not getting around to it for one reason or another.

I have a GC1 that was setup by Glen, cobrasized, or diamondized, if you will.

This GC plays superb; tough but fair pockets and kicks and banks just like a blue label Diamond.

so with all due respect, and speaking with some first-hand knowledge, I believe it's do-able to get a gc to play like a Diamond.

I think some of this jabbing at RKC may have been more to do with the aforementioned history with these two guys, but who knows?

Regarding the banning, I think it's tough for mods to look away from a "go fvck yourself" comment aimed at another member.

And I don't think Glen was exactly an innocent in this exchange but may have stopped just short of earning a vacation from az.

Russ is a good contributor and I hope his penalty isn't a long one.

best,
brian kc

With every post there is simply one more reason to have Mark Gregory do your rail work.....

So, you sent your rails to Mark I take it....or do you even have a pool table...LOL I encourage everyone who wants to ship their rails out to have them worked on to ship them to Mark, just make sure you call him first to see if he's willing to fit you in, some of you might be surprised at his response;)

OK everybody - we have a chance to actually do something here if we stop calling each other names.

Mike has just expressed these opinions:

MIKE - AZ HOUSE PRO:

Here lies a problem though. Half of the users say that warnings and bans should be handled privately, so as not to rub the users nose in it. The other half say that warnings should be public so that everyone knows that people do get warned.

Believe me, I have been doing a lot of warning lately. Users are getting warnings.

There is a difference between simply reporting a post (as we have asked users to do), and going with the "xxxx is the reason that no one ever comes to AzB anymore. They are the anti-christ, and I will never ever come to this site while they are allowed to post". Those messages get a little old.

It is a very slippery slope when we start allowing a user to give us an "It's them or me" ultimatum.

Who determines what user is more valuable to the site than another?

And where does the line stop when you allow it to happen once?

Mike

Hate to say it, but having been a boss my entire life, these comments are the way most bosses eventually feel about managing employees, especially the prima donna's. It gets old. Bosses don't really understand or sympathize with the emotional side of the job. We expect people to get along and respect each other as adults and professionals and just do their job. When it doesn't work out, someone usually gets moved or fired.

Why don't we all try a little harder not to fight, not to insult, not to criticize, not to antagonize? If you feel compelled to attack someone, take a day off and think about it. Usually that's enough.

Let's only report posts that are truly vicious.

Let's try to get along better.
