who are the broadcasters on the Turning Stone stream

We're all in the same boat, we've just been paddling upstream for the last 15 years.

It's a really tough job to do for long hours at a time. Streaming this for free is a labor of love that probably pays below minimum wage. Should be giving thanks that someone is willing and able to do it.

Ray

We all have something in common, Ray, the players work for below minimum wage too.

We figured it up and the players are averaging about $2 an hour (including time spent for travel and practice). This means when a player goes to a tournament and pay their expenses, and travel ($1000) they have to work 500 hours TO BREAK EVEN. What a job, and when there's no "thanks" it becomes that much less rewarding doesn't it?

We're all in the same boat, we've just been paddling upSTREAM for the last 15 years. Keep up the good work, bud, and best of wishes for 2015 - let's get together next time you're in Texas, I have a project that you may be very interested in.

is it dik week here on az?

stream is awesome, grateful and thanks

"upstate al" needs to piss off, he's not doing ANYBODY a service particularly when arguing stuff he doesn't understand, beyond useless

whats the point of this?dont like it get the fvck off and go to jesters house and blow each other maybe you could get a quality commentator for that.
so tired of reading who sucks or isnt playing to your expectations.guessing by the piss off comment you must be some kinda european? im sure youre a champion and espn 8 commentator but pleeze just stfu

Nice

Upstate Al is usually in the booth with several guess commentators, all of them excellent. Danny DiLiberto, Jennifer Baretta, Jeff Conway while I was listening.

I don't understand why people feel compelled to bash those who are providing this excellent live stream of top notch pool.

Couldn't think of a better description than "guess commentator"

It seems ridiculous that every time someone has an opinion on something, they get called out for bashing. Everyone has a right to an opinion.

manners should dictate if you have nothing nice to say dont say it...this little forum is read by tons of people..your opinion is fine during a conversation but putting things in to print is different and this is print.what do you do for a living?would it be amusing if someone pointed out something about you for all your peers to see?maybe your boss who knew nothing about it reads or your wife or someone else who gives 2 knobs hat you do..thats why people get called out..hiding behind a keyboard is too easy

If I say that your thoughts about this are silly it would be my opinion. If I start a thread about it then it's bashing.

I think Mike Howerton said it perfectly during the finals of the Turning Stone in 2013,

"We could stream Hoppe and Mosconi back from the dead and we would still get complaints about it."

Keep Loving Pool!

Well, I like Upstate Al's commentary. He has passion for the game and that makes up a lot for any other shortcomings. Danny is great but also can be stubborn when it comes to his thoughts about the rack not being important. These streams are done on a shoestring budget. Different strokes for different folks but you don't have to be mean to someone that is doing us a service.

Correction: Everyone has a right ro an INFORMED opinion
You can have an opinion but it better be informed, educated or backed up by some facts :D

Danny and AL have been great. These two work their tails off and the stories that are told make the stream that much greater for me.

Thanks to both men and all the guests commentators that lend a hand.

What a disrespectful little $hit. I hope at the very least AZB blocks you from watching anymore free streams. Johnnyt

Almost everyone *believes* their opinion to be as you describe. Even you, I would imagine.

Food for thought...

I've said many times that upstate al is like the battery bunny, working many many hours to bring us these stream for FREE....danny, bless his soul, knows more about pool and road stories than most of us....the guy himself has had quite a life and I enjoy his commentary and quips more than any other. how could anyone complain about these guys doing what they can to promote the sport?

You are right on.
I've been in the booth many times. It is not easy to watch the monitor, listen to the other commentators, watch the players, run the video ads, move the cameras, adjust the audio, etc....all at the same time....and be absolutely perfect in everything you say.
Oh, and by the way, nobody gets paid a dime when Upstate Al has guest commentators.
A cup of coffee, maybe.
So anyone who criticizes Upstate Al or any of his guests, kindly turn off the volume on your FREE STREAM and stop making these ridiculous complaining posts on AZB.

Keeping everything in perspective...

I think about how lucky I am (we are) that from the comfort of my home I can watch some of the greatest pool being played simply by turning on my computer and logging onto AZBTV.

You want some candor? Here's some.

When I first started listening to streams that featured Upstate Al, it was a few years ago, I thought, this guy is certainly an odd fellow. Some of the things he said left me scratching my head. And his mispronounciations due to his heavy NY accent magnified them.

As I continued listening to him over the following months I began to realize a few things. Aside from Al's quirkiness, he is a bit of a pool historian. He personally knows or has at least run into everyone who plays regularly here in the northeast. And he is very interested in learning a lot about them. Plus he knows all the joints that matter, past and present, where our game has been played

During matches you will find that Al understands pattern play very well. He gets it right about how to play a shot at a very high percentage. And, frankly, now that I better understand what else goes on in and around the booth, that accuracy becomes even more impressive.

Al is a juggler.

He is continually posting to all social media to get the word out about the streams while keeping the sponsors front and center.

The man is pretty much living in the booth from morning to night and he wants *every match* to go hill-hill.:cool::smile:

Upstate Al has more enthusiasm and dedication for our sport in his pinky than most of the rest of us do in our entire bodies.

And at the end of the tourney, as an example, last night, he had to wait til Diamond removed their tables so he could start disassembling his booth and gear.

Plenty of coffee, and bar food, and time spent behind the wheel, all to bring us the game we love.

Maybe Al is an acquired taste. If so, I've acquired it.

best,
brian kc

I for one love listening to the guys in the booth while watching the streams. I know they aren't perfect all the time, and sometimes they call something absolutely backwards from what then happens, but that's because that is how they see it. They bust their butts to bring us these streams, and I find myself both embarrassed and angry that a member of this community would have the audacity to look this gift horse in the mouth, let alone criticize it. Do you turn down free drinks if they aren't 12 year old single malt too?

A typo/Freudian slip.

upstate is correct and Danny is wrong so upstate can't be nearly as bad as the op claims. Part of doing a long live stream is working in some stories to entertain.

Upstate Al does a great job.

A agree with this. I think Al always does a good job and so do his guests. Al and Danny both know are knowledgeable about pool and they are entertaining and it was FREE.

What more could you ask for?

I always enjoy watching his streams. The only problems I ever have is the stream lagging and freezing up sometimes and I'm not sure whose fault that is. That could be anything from low bandwidth to anti-virus software.

Aloha and keep it up, Al.
