2014 us open unpaid prize money

One more Barry nut hugger left. Johnnyt

No stupid, not a nut hugger, I just want to know how in hell are we going to make Barry do what everyone wishes it should be like. There is no freaking way to make Barry do anything. Not the BCA, not the WPA, not with violence, or boycots, or even talking to him....therefore, everyone is wasting their time with this bullcrap......including you Johnny. !!!!

This is how tournaments should end, with cash !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well you can do that with smaller payouts.

The payouts at the U.S. Open is too much.

Too risky having all that cash around.

I've always gotten checks from the Super Billiard Expo.

No, they didn't bounce either...............

I thought Roberta said this would be taken care of?
That was what a week ago?
Last time I checked it only took 10 min or so to wire transfer money.
Of course that's if you have the money to wire Transfer.............

that was last THU. Barry wasn't in. nor was he in on FRI & SAT.

i would think that after his weekend sales, he'd have $3K.
and even if he's out of town, or sick (which he's not so far as i was told), his Accounts Payable Dept could handle the wire transfer in his absence. you can even wire online from your laptop nowadays!

speaking of which - isn't payroll due on the 15th or FRI?

You are kidding, right? First off you are just flat wrong. People can make Barry pay his debts faster. Bad publicity works. Especially with someone like Barry who is an attention whore and who more than anything else longs to feel like somebody important in the public's eye. Plus, the WPA and possibly the BCA likely have some pull in this situation. Barry really values having the sanctioning. It makes the event more important, and therefore Barry feels more important.

And everyone can make it to where Barry can never do this again. Barry gets whatever self worth he has primarily from feeling important in the public's eye. If the players won't play without a proper escrow, and the fans won't support it without a proper escrow, and the people who help him with the event won't associate their name with it by working with him unless there is a proper escrow, then guess what, Barry is going to do the escrow, period. He needs the attention and perceived public adoration from doing the US Open far too much to let it go away, particularly when it would be known that it had to go away because the people revolted due to his bad practices and mismanagement.

But regardless, your argument is one of the dumbest ones I have heard in a while. Essentially what you are saying is when someone really wants to be dishonest, or really wants to be criminal, since there is a chance you may not be able to prevent it you shouldn't even make any effort to try. Tell me again exactly where the logic in that is, because I'm just seeing it devoid of all logic.

I hope you took my stock tip advice Jay - DXCM en fuego. RTRX and CVS pumping right behind.

Thanks, invest in hard assets like railroad companies, real estate conglomerates, pipelines etc. These will still be thriving when the next big pinch comes. I've got money in multiple real estate deals, all paying a minimum of 7.5% in dividends, some as much as 9%, with a bonus at the end when the property sells. Money in the bank is useless, except as a back up for emergencies. Buy some gold now too! It will still have value if the dollar goes south. Those are my tips for you.

P.S. Dennis is still owed $4,250, despite many promises of a payment forthcoming. I've intervened on his behalf with no luck.

Jay,
I am sorry are you saying Dennis Orcollo is still owed $4,250 prize money by Barry?

So, is the US Open a WPA sanctioned tournament? If yes, then the WPA should act according to their rules. Right off the WPA website is the following. It was cut and pasted here.

"Escrow:

For all new organisers, the prize fund must be secured in escrow no less than forty-five days prior to the commencement date of the main event. This procedure will apply to all new organisers/promoters. It will also apply to any organiser/promoter who hasn’t met his prize money payouts within a reasonable time period after the tournament has ended.

If the funds have not been secured in escrow within the time period, the WPA is obligated to advise the players of the situation."

I'm sure there are other players besides Dennis O. that are owed money by Barry. Johnnyt

That is exactly what happened in 2013 when Johnny Archer had control of the bank account with all the prize money in it. This year we lost such oversight and you can see the result.

That was the year the WPA insisted that the ABP set up an escrow account. Barry was very cooperative that year. Added money and entry fees were wired directly to my Trust Account. The weekend of the event I wired the money down to a bank account in Johnny's name and Johnny signed the checks.

By the way, Barry and Shannon were crying and threatening me and told me I should transfer that money into their account and they would pay the players. They were threatening to have someone arrested. We told them that their plan would defeat the whole purpose of the escrow and that they better get behind the plan because that was what we were going to do. It worked out pretty well, but it was interesting that even at the last minute, Barry was trying to pull something.

This year apparently, the WPA did not think that Barry needed any oversight.

Thanks Dennis. I'm aware of all this, thanks to Johnny and Art Wiggins, another good man like you.

Jay: I knew you knew how it went down. I was just reminding everyone that we had been here before and it took a lot of muscle to make Barry do the right thing. The WPA had to require it and Johnny had to do the heavy lifting.

I never met Art but he was a business partner of Johnny's and Johnny wanted him on the account down there, too, in case he got tied up.

I am afraid that it would probably take something like this every year to make sure the players get paid. Johnny did not like having to do it, but someone had to step up. A guy like you, if you were down there, would be an obvious good option, but it is a bit of work making sure he puts the money in like he says he is going to.

At this point, has anyone considered the possibility of informing the local editor of the Norfolk newspaper? Maybe send them links to the facebook discussions and this thread?

Maybe that would help force things forward...
