Matchroom has previously announced that they would use some type of points system for selecting 3 of the 5 players: “Players eligible for Team USA, who finish in the top 32, will be awarded points on a sliding scale.” We now have four events completed, but no complete description of how the point system would work. So I thought I would make a guess.
I got the place finishes of American players in the top 32 of the USBTC 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball divisions and the Derby City 9-ball. To award points I simply subtracted their finishing rank from 33, so if they placed 1st they would get the max of 32 points, but if they placed 32nd they would get 1 point. Then I added up their points and ranked them here. I have no idea how they'll actually set up the points, but maybe this will be close.
I made guesses about a number of players’ nationality and eligibility. I didn’t count Jayson Shaw because, although he lives in the US now, he is not a US citizen. I counted Oscar Dominguez but not Ernesto because my understanding is that Ernesto is Mexican but Oscar is American. Please let me know if there are any mistakes on that and I'll change it.
