Oh yeah, thread chasing. Very difficult skill to acquire, from what I have been told. I haven't tried it myself, but remember knowing a wood turner in Alaska who was able to do it. I used to cut birch trees & burls for him in exchange for bowls & stuff. I recall him telling me how much time it took to learn thread chasing, though I never tried it for myself.
I do something similar by setting my compound at a ninety when cutting them and just slightly widening threads instead of going deeper to get them to fit.
