Why people leave the forum.....

Money and Pool

This has always been one of my favorite sites because of the pool stories but over the past few years there's less and less of them! I don't think it's the downfall of azb so much as it is the downfall of the internet because it's more so about making money than it is about just having fun. I think facebook has a lot to do with it and it's just an black hole of virtually useless content really.

Yes it takes money to float on bandwidth but that's just an opener.

When pool mixes with money....something weird happens and it never works out right.

People getting bent out of shape because the masses don't agree 100% with their posts?
Bunch o' sissies up in this joint.

I come for technical discussion, which has now mostly devolved to constant correction of pseudoinfo. I think this dynamic is changing AzB into a source of questionable technical info.

LOL.... Just bring your cute ass to Canton, OH and let's see what all the technical information has taught you. 10 ball, 9 ball, 8 ball, one pocket, ?? No worries, we will figure it out...

lol. Joey does a good job of "ignoring" me:

I don't like it when haters go to hating on my friends and I must say that Lou-zer does a good job of that too. He really is what's wrong with the forum and others just like him.

I don't doubt that Lou can be a gentleman nor his ability to spin a tale but he comes across like a ***** in this forum and that's ok too. Those who want to condone Lou-zer's mean-spirited behavior in order to sit at his table are entitled to have their indigestion.

For the most part, I ignore Lou-zer until he follows me around to my threads or starts talking specifically about me in other threads.

I couldn't agree more. I don't even know the guy, but I have read plenty. Maybe you should play him Lou, lol??

Great post, Joey. I had to cut back from visiting AZ. There is a forum member who I have never met who I will absolutely slap in the face if I ever meet them. That's how you know it's time to cut back. This place can be brutal.

What's ironic, people ''in pool rooms'' don't act like they do here.

I post less and less. Why???

I think I have shown that my intentions are to improve the state of pool. I am willing to put my money where my mouth is. I have spent thousands if dollars and thousands of hours try to make things work. Yet so many 'keyboard cowboys' just insist on spewing their (often) uninformed thoughts. They have that right.

But to ignore market forces that are beyond anybody's control becomes a pointless argument. The most obvious instance is CSI decision to limit our 9' table exposure. I cannot help that the marketplace has shown no support for 9' events.

Why should I continue doing events guaranteed to lose a ton of money. Another example was the 2014 invitational event. When Ralf elected to forfeit his match. We had a very few minutes to go forward with a solution that prevented a bigger problem. We mDe a tough decision.

Bottom line - we spent $40-$50,000 and half the people calling us stupid and showing favoritism- when the only problem was Ralf decided to quit in the middle if a tournament. Pretty fought to support pro pool when you get thus lack of respect.

I am not leaving AZB but I ignore 4-5 posters. Their position never changes and they contribute very little. I believe people should have to use a known name- less anonymous posts would helpl.. And some of the argumentative posters need to grow up.

The beauty of AZB has been getting duller over time. I think too many small minded and petty people. We should all be trying to improve billiards. But reuty says differently.

Mark, hope you're recovery is going well.

Certainly you should not lose money on any event. But my personal opinion is that "U.S. Open" events should not be held on bar tables. Unless of course they are the "U.S Open Bar Table Championship." So, hold an event on 7 footers, just not "The U.S. Open."

Funny thing: I was in NOLA a few years back. Created thread about it here, talked about it for days before, and spent a few days at Buffalo's. Never a peep nor sign of Joey. Not even to buy me the drinks he's owed me for years. I though he'd at least show some hospitality in his hometown after I had just chauffeured him around Vegas because he wanted to eat Kobe steak and he didn't have a rental car and I did.

I figured out why though. Every time at Buffalo's I'd asked about Joey, guys would respond, "Oh, you mean the biggest nit in New Orleans?" It was especially funny when I was playing a regular at Buffalo's some 1pocket and he stopped to ask another guy walking past our table, "Who's the biggest nit in New Orleans?" And the guy immediately responded, "Joey." (That's a true story, BTW.) I also went to Jamie's room and he told me the same thing about Joey. Had me laughing out loud at a couple of stories he told me.

Ha! I thought I had the guy pegged right. Good story..

I don't understand why he feels the need to cut up your name into something that would come out of a 5th graders mouth. Really "cool"... :/

Some classic stuff in this thread. Never going to get rid of all the crap. Some people's personalities are such that they HAVE to be right, like they have to eat, sleep, etc. Aside from those people, let's lose our arrogance. Let's treat our opinion as an opinion instead of fact. Let's allow others their opinion and absolutely have discussions, but when it's all said and done, respectfully disagree and leave it there.

Let's leave "old shit" in old threads. When many people go into a thread and see what appears to be an attack out of nowhere it ruins the thread. If the shit a person says annoys you, then SIMPLY don't respond or mute them if need be.

Now, to me, this all sounds extraordinarily simple. So I can only surmise that most everyone wants to be treated like this, but not give others the same.

I understand most people like to "get the last word" and "show them what's up" and other alpha male stuff. Maybe forums aren't for you if you feel the need to impress or degrade complete strangers. Or, maybe they aren't for me.

When you have your own events, you can choose not to call it the "U.S. Open". Not your event.

Nice to see you posting and hopefully recovering well.

I love playing and watching top players on the 7' tables. The only thing I don't get is why you call it WORLD when very few countries even have bar boxes. The only reason I could see for it is to keep the rights to the tournament. Johnnyt

That sounds like barton describing you! ;)

From a newbie's perspective - I love this place so far...

I've gotten helpful advice, chastised a bit here and there, contributed a little where I could and have been able to witness some truly entertaining drama unfold.

Maybe I'm a terrible person, but I enjoy some of the infighting and B.S. - in some weird way it makes this place feel less faceless to me, and I feel like I'm getting to know people better than I would with a board full of polite, only helpful people.

I'm sure all of that might change when I'm the one with a target on my back, but it's just a message board - I say don't seek to remove it all, just try and find a way for the genuine content to be the star, and the drama to be a nice distraction.

Thank you for proving all of my points. Anything to make a sale. It isn't that i don't like seeing people succeed, but you're willing to say about anything to make a buck. After a while, i realized i couldn't take your opinion on anything here any more than i could trust McDonald's to give me an honest opinion on food.

Gotta love it.. some salesman starting a thread about being upset, then posting about people should ignore things they don't like, while tossing around insults. You should be in politics.

And you obviously don't know anything about me and my finances. Lol

You've lost me, Johnny. The two upcoming events are the "2015 US Open 10-Ball Championship" and the "2015 US Open 8-Ball Championship."

What do you mean by "WORLD"?

Mike,
You and I have never met (to the best of my knowledge), but you ALWAYS carry yourself with dignity and respect even when others do not. I would bet my last dollar that you are the same in person.

JoeyA

Joey,

You got to use the big guns...Like This...if you're gonna make a point!

The forum is a perfect shield for keyboard commandos. They get their digs in without having to face their targets or care about the damage it does.

I can usually make one phone call and get the low down on almost any player out there if they're even on the radar... where they play, who they play with and their speed. The internet isn't as anonymous as people think.

I think about this when I post and try to show as much respect as I receive...which should go without saying.

Best,
Mike

OPPS! Thank you for correcting me. But to save fate, I don't think they should be called U.S Open Championships either. Johnnyt
