Why people leave the forum.....

Talking about hypocrites.

Lou,

EVERYWHERE you go, people are calling you "creep", "nit", liar and worse. Don't feel bad, if the shoe fits...........

As far as you and I are concerned, long ago, I gave you an opportunity to be a friend. You won't get a second one.

Your description of your "hospitality " (lol) in Vegas is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of what you and your kind are all about.

Funny thing: I was in NOLA a few years back. Created thread about it here, talked about it for days before, and spent a few days at Buffalo's. Never a peep nor sign of Joey. Not even to buy me the drinks he's owed me for years. I though he'd at least show some hospitality in his hometown after I had just chauffeured him around Vegas because he wanted to eat Kobe steak and he didn't have a rental car and I did.

I figured out why though. Every time at Buffalo's I'd asked about Joey, guys would respond, "Oh, you mean the biggest nit in New Orleans?" It was especially funny when I was playing a regular at Buffalo's some 1pocket and he stopped to ask another guy walking past our table, "Who's the biggest nit in New Orleans?" And the guy immediately responded, "Joey." (That's a true story, BTW.) I also went to Jamie's room and he told me the same thing about Joey. Had me laughing out loud at a couple of stories he told me.

Just curious....

OPPS! Thank you for correcting me. But to save fate, I don't think they should be called U.S Open Championships either. Johnnyt

Maybe I missed your reasoning as to why they shouldn't be called U.S. Open Championships. Why not?

I started building cues about 5 years ago. I bought THE BOOK and DVD's and studied. I found this forum and just hung around for a while and read the posts and a lot of the archives. I found it to be a wealth of information.

In the beginning I had no idea how to build a pool cue and I asked some specific questions on construction, materials, and finish.

I then met the self proclaimed experts. That is not to say that they were not accomplished and experienced cue builders. The gave me so much bullshit and animosity that I almost quit the forum at that time. The most prevalent answer was...... we are not going to tell you anything unless you have already tried it..... a most exasperating experience..... for how can you try it if you don't know how to do it?????

I have seen nasty and down right mean people come and go in the last 5 years.... but a few remain and why they are allowed by the moderators..... well it beats me.

I did find a few people that were willing to honestly share their knowledge and experience with me..... and I appreciate them greatly.

One thing that is important to know is that cue builders are a unique lot with methods and techniques that are long in the learning and hard in the perfection........ some will share and others think that none should share any of it.

As to the people that speak rudely to others........ well I choose to ignore them and not to post on their threads or answer their criticism. It just seems to work better that way.

As for me.... I have learned to build a dam nice cue and for that reason, I have a years worth of orders always looking at me.

I will share my knowledge with anyone and help whoever I can..........

and I won't quit the forum............. but I know why others do.........

And you obviously don't know anything about me and my finances. Lol

Hi Joey,

I am not siding with Lou, and I'm quite sure you are financially stable ! ;)..But I will say this !..You do (or used to) tend to go a little overboard in your 'sales pitches', for ANY pool related product that struck your fancy !..It don't make you a bad guy, but it does tend to minimize your impact on most knowledgable forum readers !

PS..You may not be a 'nit'...But at some point you need to realize, that 'Aiming Systems', for the most part, are marketed to people who will probably NEVER become top level player's..As Fat's would say.."..an' tha's a fack !"

...you and your kind
You regularly promote this "us vs. them" attitude while pretending to deplore the animosity here. As I recall, you personally did most of the "tribal" name-calling during the early aiming system debates - remember "naysayers"?

Ever wonder why you're called a hypocrite? Ever wonder if you really are one? I doubt it - that would take honest self-evaluation.

I've never really understood why people get so upset about what was said on the internet by someone they don't really know. But, it's an undeniable fact that several interesting posters have more or less stopped contributing to the forum. Maybe it's the lack of tournaments or pro pool activity that has led to a general lack of interest among some. I do think though a little bit tighter moderation and ridding the forum of the one or two posters who never contribute anything meaningfully pool related and exist only to troll might have done some good.

Maybe because there is little hope of learning anything on this forum. Almost every thread gets derailed. Think many people play devils advocate just so they can disagree with someone. There are always many opinions but doubt many carry any respect. Most probably only scan threads now to read the childish banter to get a good laugh.

From a newbie's perspective - I love this place so far...

I've gotten helpful advice, chastised a bit here and there, contributed a little where I could and have been able to witness some truly entertaining drama unfold.

Maybe I'm a terrible person, but I enjoy some of the infighting and B.S. - in some weird way it makes this place feel less faceless to me, and I feel like I'm getting to know people better than I would with a board full of polite, only helpful people.

I'm sure all of that might change when I'm the one with a target on my back, but it's just a message board - I say don't seek to remove it all, just try and find a way for the genuine content to be the star, and the drama to be a nice distraction.

I got a text from a member who was out of the country and was going to be for some time. He asked me if I would post that he was ok because he knew some people cared whether he was or not, me included. One or more of the responses were rude and childish and some found those responses to be "funny" and/or entertaining.
A lot of people who find the bullshit entertaining egg people on to get the most out of it they can. Sometimes it results in someone saying something they shouldn't and they get banned for it while the ones who encouraged them to get to stay on continue to act like the ass hats they are. Not everyone is treated equally.

Because I thought by saying that I'd only be a little wrong. TX for calling me on it grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Johnnyt

I think everyone knows what kind of chalk and tips they prefer.

Yes, there's very little going on in pool these days on the pro scene. Conversations about the APA are getting wrapped up, and I think everyone knows what kind of chalk and tips they prefer.

I have a few more things to bring into the Light at some point.....maybe next week. ;)

Ha! I thought I had the guy pegged right. Good story..

I don't understand why he feels the need to cut up your name into something that would come out of a 5th graders mouth. Really "cool"... :/

Yeah, I never understood the 5th grade name stuff. It's a bit pathetic of a grown man.

I just remembered how that story came about: even funnier the way it happened. There was a regular at Buffalo's who wanted to play some $20 1pocket but he wanted weight.

So I asked him, "How do you play Joey?" And he says, "Oh, I need 9-7 from Joey.' So I say, "OK, if you get 9-7 from Joey, I'll give you the 9-7." And the regular comes back and says, "Oh, I didn't say Joey gave me 9-7, I said I need 9-7 but he's such a nit he won't give it to me -- Joey is the biggest nit in New Orleans." And at that point a guy is walking by and the regular asks him, "Who's the biggest nit in New Orleans?" And without even having to think about it the guy says, "Joey."

So I laugh and I give the regular the 9-7. We play for several hours and we break even. If I can give up that game on strange equipment, just on the guys say-so, and Joey will not, Joey is definitely a nit.

Yeah, or probably never.

Piss, or get off the pot, CJ.

All of this animosity because of aiming systems? Unbelievable.

Not really.
You have those that invest time into making a specific aiming product, that they can charge $$$ for in the form of lessons or DVDs, regardless of if the information gained from it is fantastic, or absolutely terrible.

Any naysayer is automatically categorized as knocking them, and costing them money.
Then your ability is put into question as they can only accept naysaying if you have a certain baseline ability and know what your are talking about.
Then it all goes into the toilet.

You have no idea, Tate.
It's sad to see Figueroa, and to a lesser extent Johnson, belittle Joey, in as much as their contributions to this forum pale by comparison.
I have yet to see, in the many years that I have been here, either one of these two add anything substantial to this website. All it has ever been from these two is criticism and derision. Never have I seen either one of them give a fellow member a "well done". Never have I seen either one of these two tell a fellow member that the picture of their cue looks great, or their table restoration is first rate. Whatever their contribution has been, it's been negative.
They have few friends.

And we need to keep asking why people might leave the forum!!! If CJ didn't have skin thicker than an armadillo he would have been gone a long time ago. Maybe someone should start a poll ... who would you miss more, Ron Swanson or CJ Wiley?
