I have a feeling he means this

Svb

He is a champion pool player, and he will always be a real champion player.......
And everyone has there moments, he is not perfect and maybe we should just hope the best for him and the rest of our favorite players Knowing that everyone of these players are giving a 110 % .

I can only say thank you for everything he has contributed to the game.
I remember when I asked Corey D and SVB if I could take there picture they both where very polite ... LOL the picture didn't come out or I would of posted it.

Absolutely nuts.

You are nobody on the internet if you don't have your own pack of screaming monkeys.

It's the new deal.

No doubt, SVB has a pack of idiots howling at him. He needs to learn to deal with it.

Lou Figueroa

I agree. That mental toughness , which shows up in a few ways, is one thing that he is lacking imo. I also think that the guy he is really mad at right now is himself.

I'm going to agree with this 1000%! It definitely goes deeper than we think.

Somebody made a comment about LeBron,,,,, how much does LeBron make? Millions right!?!?! How much does Shane make? Eeehhhh mi,,,,'ll,, eehhhh oh yeah, "thousands"!

Great post tramp, you nailed it!

I doubt it is about money. Im sure it is about winning. Btw, I think Lebron would have the same frustration if he had still never won the NBA championships.

Real

Shame that people are that jealous of a great player they would make him want to quite the game he loves.

The real shame is that he does not have the ability to ignore the small minded jealous haters. People like LeBron James are happy and confident enough in their abilities not to let these pest bother them. A lot of the Pro Pool players need to have a thicker skin and start laughing the pest off.

I officially can't wait to retire from the pool world. One of these days I'm going to disappear from pool world, keep my friends and enjoy life. Too many haters and enemies that can't get a life. it's shame people can't respect people around them in this world. On the other hand when I was young, I'm glad I learned to respect everyone around me. #*%# you haters!! Haters will never be successful.

I am not crazy about this generational thing classifying people as "haters". If somebody criticizes you, then call them out or ignore them, but it sure doesn't mean they hate everybody. You never saw an Arnold Palmer complaining publicly that he wanted to quit golf because some people don't like him.

For Shane, after all he's accomplished, with the tremendous amount of respect many of us fans have for him, to express this kind of self pity is very disappointing. Shane, you're a champion. You have many reasons to be grateful. Time to act like it. I say this as a big fan too, not a hater.

I not sure I understand?

Maybe his frustrations lie deeper than you think.
What has he got to look forward to. There is no professional pool players association. No structured organization that could provide him earnings through the years to come.
What does the young man do about the usual necessities of life? Does he have health care? Is there a 401K he can contribute to, or put his winnings into? What will happen to him when he reaches his sixties and wants to retire like many of the rest of us?
A professional pool player has absolutely nothing to look forward to, yet many of us want him to keep playing so that we might be entertained. Very sad.

SVB is one of the best in the world at his CHOSSEN craft. You say professional Pool players have nothing to look forward to?? Don't play. Do something you hate 8-10 hours a day for little money, $10hr with no benefits or future, try Burger King.

Pool is a great game, it not where it should be, but there is hope because it cant get much worse, Burger King aint going to changing their job descriptions much.

SVB will be fine, he will win a world championship and if things change in the world of Pool and by that I mean if the Money gets better, he'll laugh all the way to the bank! Keep on stroke'n SVB.

I think JoeyA started the "haters" in the first AIMING thread that went sideways on him. Johnnyt

I've always thought with how great he's been at such a young age he'd end up one of the greatest ever as long as he continued at it.

You've got plenty of fans, Shane. Keep doing you.

He is a partial owner of a pretty popular bar/pool hall here. I seen him in there 3 times practicing in the time he was home and the man can't even practice in his own place without people coming up to the table for an autograph and a picture. He just doesn't know how to say no to fans. It will be a sad day if he really does disappear from the pro scene.

I seen someone say he posted his displeasure about the tables and such in China. I must have missed that post but I'm sure he was frustrated and everyone knows alternating breaks don't suit him. When he gets in stroke it's an amazing thing to watch. At least he shows up to these international events.

JoeyA, now held responsible for creating the "HATERS" of the pool world. I hope Shane will forgive me.

If anyone thinks he is retiring because some facetards are blowing him sh!t I have some sweet ass Greek bonds to sell you. He needs to do what I finally started doing when I got sick of people online...just turn it off. Walk away. Makes the trolls nuts and not a single thing in your world changes.

It can be frustrating to compete at Shane's level and read some of the disparaging words on pool-related Internet sites. I remember Fabio paying all the money it takes to come to the States from Italy and compete in the 64-man pro tournament at Super Billiards Expo. When he missed a shot that may have determined the outcome of the match, he banged his head so hard on the corner of the pool table out of frustration that it drew blood. We've all seen players break their cue sticks after a competition because they had trouble dealing with their disappointment. These are all people who are passionate about pool. In some cases, pool is their life, unlike maybe the majority of readers on this forum. Some of us, myself included, have other lives outside of the pool world that take precedence, so pool is not the be-all and end-all for us.

If Shane even reads this AzBilliards Discussion Forum, which I kind of doubt, but just in case he does, remember what Fast Eddie said to Minnesota Fats in "The Hustler."

I'm the best you ever seen, Fats. I'm the best there is. And even if you beat me, I'm still the best. —Fast Eddie

Keep on keeping on, Shane. Most of us know you're the best in the U.S., and we root for you every time you step up to the plate. Results pickers seem to believe tournamaent short races is what determines the best player. They're short races in which luck always enters the fray. The best man doesn't always win in a short race.

Win or lose, you *are* the best!

Just to pick a nit: that quote is generally regarded as evidence of Eddie's lack of character, not whether he is the best, win or lose. And in fact the next line in the movie is Bert's who says, "Stay with this kid. He's a loser."

I'm familiar with the movie. ;)

This may be where we differ. I think Bert was the loser in the end when it comes to pool. I am aware of what he said following Fast Eddie's line.

That's the point of my quoting Fast Eddie as far as self-confidence and belief in one's capabilities. He didn't give a damn what anybody else thought.

I know you're familiar with the movie but the meaning of the quote is clear.

That Bert is the larger loser becomes clear as the movie concludes. But at that point in the movie it is about Eddie's failings. Using it brings that baggage with it whether it's your intention of not.

Furthermore, while the Berts of the world are sitting in a pool room critiquing professional-caliber players, the Fast Eddie's of the world are enjoying pool at a height that the Berts of the world will never experience. Their eyes look at a height beyond the Berts' gazes. They have a freedom unconquerable and can soar in the pool world.

If I was a pool player, I would much rather be Fast Eddie than a Bert sitting on the rail. :grin-square:
