WWYD: Push out to where?

... If one has keen pool acumen, one can tell that ...
He did call the 9. And the 10. Maybe he called the 9 as a defensive measure just in case it went in so that his opponent wouldn't have the choice. I do wonder, though, whether he pushed out for the kick bank or he figured to play some other safe.

That looks like a sensible shot if you are on CRACK!!!!! I hope you were just joking.
I suspect PJ, on a familiar table, has his bank formulas down to an accuracy good enough to make that 1 30%+ and probably hit it to a semi safe position more often than not when he doesn't.

Push beside the nine but not quite frozen to nine or rail. From here I almost hope I get the table back or he does something silly. If I get it back I come off the left side with slow spin. Even without a hook he's got to start off with a combo and get shape on next ball.

I think the safe you have drawn (from near the 9) is more or less impossible. If you hit the object ball that thin, I don't think the cue ball goes to the 6.

Am I the only one that would thin off the right side of the 1 with right english and send the cue ball 3 rails behind the 5?

Shift the 1-ball and the cue ball a third of a diamond towards the middle of the table and
I think that would be a good shot.

So far yes! But not a bad option. Could go wrong if the 1 ball is hit too thin or too thick, but worth consideration in this sticky situation.

Push the 5 to the center of the top rail!

With the 4 on the bottom rail and 5 on the top it increases the difficulty. Plus, leaves a tougher shot.

I might kick the 1 ball in for shape on the 2!

Bob,
I went and tried it today. Dirty and well worn table. I had no problem controlling the cue ball and could drop it almost anywhere from side pocket to back rail. The one on the other hand did come up higher than I drew it (closer to third diamond 0n side rail) but is some way that was more effective and tougher to hit (without jumping).

You just made the 7 on the break. The 1 is froze. You decide to push out. Where do you push out to give yourself the best chance of winning?

Push out my ass. I'd kick the one in and run out! :)
I'll bet even money on that kick shot all day!

So it would work on you...

If someone tried a 5 rail kick on me when they could push out or do a 1 rail kick I would probably lose because I wouldn't be able to stop laughing.

Might be the all time worst what would you do I have ever seen.

I still think you must have been joking.

1/8 ball hit little top left... Freeze to the 8ball.... If you can't do it 6 of 10 you likely should stay here and post.....

Actually post this with the 1 being the 8 and the 8 being the 9 and no other balls and I bet they all find the way home...

I suspect you misunderstood Pat's diagram. It shows both the push out and the following one-rail kick. The push out is in solid lines and ends up behind the 5 ball. The one-rail kick that follows is shown in dashed lines.

FWIW, I also though PJ had lost his mind (or what little is left of it:wink:) or was joking when I first saw his post: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=5269142&postcount=7

It is an interesting style of move if you are trying to con your opponent. You make a "mistake" that forces you to play a "lucky" shot. You beat your opponent by stumbling through the rack with mistakes and lucky shots. I think my shot after the 1 ball would be to bump the 4 ball while making the 2 in the corner and "trying" to go three cushions for the 3. I'd be sure to move the 4 over to the side rail by the pocket. Lots of possibilities in this rack.

You got a bet, but only if your playing shape to get on the two. Hitting that ball at speed to get on the two, is waaaaaaaaay to risky.
