Jay Helfert resigned as Tourney Director at the US Open

Well ....

No, NOW COMES THE TRUTH.....

Ken

Allen Hopkins is an innocent bystander. He was told he had a place in the tournament by the promoter.

People love to knock down pro players on AzBilliards all the time.

Let's all go root for the pro players at the Open now, just so we can bash them again. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Is this a pool forum or a knockers forum?

With the assumption that you #'s 1 and two is in fact not written down anywhere what is the precedent at the US OPEN as well as all other prominent tournaments?

I don't have an answer. Just a suggestion that when something happens like what did here, to come up with a set procedure (any, it does not matter) and make it part of the written rules available for all to see "going forward". That would lead to continuous improvement of professional events. The way it seems now, people all have different opinions, and make decisions however they see fit. Then, the next event, they are back to square one, because that "opinion" was never made a rule. That's not how a professional event is run, imo.

IMO, Jam, Allen was an "innocent bystander" at the time of his arrival but with Jay the TD telling him in no uncertain terms that he could not play, and why (per Jay's post here), then for Allen to take a spot in the tourney has him much less innocent in my estimation.

I'm not being a pro-knocker, just sharing my opinion/impression, given what Jay said.

And Allen Jr.

best,
brian kc

I said it earlier in the thread -- and I'm not going to go back and list the post number :D -- that the only three who know what happened is Jay, Allen, and Barry. Everybody's opinion posted on this thread is supposition because most don't know all the facts of what occurred before, during, and after, including me. :)

Jay contacted me and asked me to be a tournament official so there are 2 officials me and Karl K then Jay as the Person 100% in charge as the Tournament Director and Scott Smith as Announcer. I was right next to Jay when most of it occurred. Jay is a class act and he decided to finish the whole day out and make sure the players charts were completed as far as they could be for the next couple days so Jay didn't abandon anything or anybody. There are always 2 sides to every story. Jay has a great reputation and felt he didn't want to ruin it and be blamed for what happened and Barry is the promoter for 40 years and added 75K and he feels and can change things as he wants and basically he can so there is the conflict. Other than that the players are playing great and a few notes are than Karen Corr is an incredibly talented player that has gained a ton of respect and IMO the players that are playing the best currently are Biado, Souquet, Bergman and Chinakov. I do want to say thanks to Jay for asking me to take on the task and I really enjoyed all of our conversations and I consider him a very good friend.

Brian, you have only heard one side of the story. Have you spoken to Allen? You have read Jay's remarks. You have not spoken to Allen or to Barry. So you are basing your opinion on Jay's remarks only, and that's fine. Jay is a good guy in pool, but so is Allen.

It's kind of unfair for everybody to make suppositions when they are not a party to what transpired. That is all I am saying. Jay was a party, but he is one party out of three.

Everyone wants Pool to become a respected sport. Do you really think this kind of conversation doesn't occur in other sports? Deflategate? Questioning of every call of a coach in any sport that doesn't get the W. Fans of every sport armchair quarterback, *****, and talk trash to each other about who is gonna win the next game/match. Professionals in every sport understand and expect this well before they get to the Professional level. You can't have it both ways. Either deal with the shit that comes with playing a SPORT at a professional level, or give up on making it a sport, bash fans for having conversations that aren't constant pep rallies, and do what i saw someone suggest on another thread. Make a forum limited only to top players and mid-high level gamblers. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Whatever you say, Newbie, with 13 posts since 2013.

Hey Bobby, I have a question. Maybe you can answer it, since you're there.

Would you know if the now-acting TD, Scott, is acting as Bookie at this WPA sanctioned event? You know, amongst the participating players, on site, and as the "supposed-to-be-impartial-decision-maker"?

And if so, perhaps we can discuss the blatant conflict of interest, besides it's illegality?

I know JAM alluded once or twice that Keith was gonna play this event. But I haven't seen a player roster.

Did he play this year?

No. We're home. Have friends there and have communicated via cell phone.

And I'm sure glad Keith does *not* know his AzBilliards password and is unable to post, because if you would learn what he has to say about this whole fiasco, well, that would create another brand-new thread.

There is nothing like that going on.

Why not just give him his PW?
