WPA Rules For Transgenders

Maybe I'm just ignorant in this area, but how extensive is this issue? Are international WPA rules being changed/created in response to one or two individuals, or are there dozens, even hundreds, that are effected?

With all due respect and my full sympathies for those effected, but does it really seem right or fair to turn the WPA upside down in order to accommodate one or two individuals (if that's the case)? Maybe creating a separate division for transgenders should be considered.

The rules were in place for a couple decades. Previously you only needed a legal ID with a female name and gender marker. That was enough. It actually got stricter it wasn't lessened. There is a higher requirement now as of March 2015.

Prove it without being labeled a homophobe when Maxine shows up to the gal's event.

JC

I don't have to prove it, its clearly written in the rules on page 13 and 14. You might want to read them. You need fully documented proof of a blood test and hormone levels. It's the same standards as in the olympics.

I wonder how long until this nonsense hits other womens professional sports like basketball, tennis,
soccer, etc.

It's going to take all the fun out of womens beach volleyball...

They made an attempt in women's mma with one whom will not be named

He eventually got beat by a chick, and hasent been spoken of since

This is not the case, you must chemically have the same hormone levels as a female. And your male hormones must be as low as a females. You cannot simply just consider yourself female. You must actually make yourself female chemically. Which effects both the body and the brain and must be on a continuous basis. The rules are on page 13 and 14 found here: http://www.wpba.com/images/pdfs/WPBA_Player_Policy_Handbook_2015.pdf

Thank you Rhea. Johnnyt

I support someones right to live their life according to how they identify, and feel.

But this is a slippery slope. People will always "game the system."

Transgender athletes will find a way to manipulate their hormone treatments to maintain the upper limits of the testosterone allowed to compete in women's events.

This is an advantage not afforded to the athletes born as females.

Unless, they allow the "born" females to take hormones in order to compete fairly; thus, a very slippery slope.

This is false: In order to get the documentation needed by an endocronologist you must not have higher than the AVERAGE female testosterone level, that is the maximum allowed for a transgender athlete, you cannot have the maximum allowed for a female. And your female hormone levels have to stay at the AVERAGE female estrogen level on a minimum.

The "average" would make more sense.
But the average olympic, or high level, female athlete has higher than average testosterone levels; due to the increased activity and muscular density. At peak, many have a pause in their menstrual cycle.
So the "average" female hormone level would now seem to put the transgender athlete at a disadvantage.

A slippery slope. Is this another play on words.
You guys crack me up. :grin-square:

I am only referring to pool, no other sport. And the Average is based on the overall average female human, not in comparison to athletes in particular.

Would it be "unfair" to make trans take a test and no one else? I mean, aren't we trying to make it "fair" for everyone, and testing someone who "identifies" is discriminatory. Isn't that where we are headed full steam ahead no matter how crazy?
