Really sad.

There is so much history with so much of "our" stuff I wish there was a muesem or something for all this stuff.

Examples would be some of those Balabushka (Miz's and others) instead of going somewhere to be hidden in collections.

I really do.

Agree with you. I did a thread on historic cues, to try to get some of them out there, and it turned out nicely, though a lot are hidden in private collections. This does seem strange.

All the best,
WW

What strikes me as sad about this is if Rempe is entirely giving up playing and teaching at home. He'll be just 69 later this year.

Sad Day

I played with Jimmy twice on this table in his man cave. The first time, if I recall correctly, was 2008. He had just moved into his new home and the table had just been covered. The room was full of Jimmy's trophies and memorabilia.

Best of luck to Jimmy and his pursuits in the future.

Yeah, the "Ultimate" spec. Connelly's were 2" 4-piece slate, at least when I was aware of them. Could Rempe's be different? I don't know.

wow 4 peices

wish more makers would do this, at 2 inch and 2-3/8 inch, 3 piece billiard slate moving, is serious business

private collections are "museums", just private ones. Public museums take money and they need paying visitors to keep the doors open.....just not enough interest in pool to make that happen.....which is sad....

private collections are better than nothing. I'm sure who ever buys this table will understand its value and take care of it.

Since this thread is in the main forum and not in the for sale section, I feel its allowed to comment on price.

Why in the world would anyone pay 10K for this table? What have recent examples of this model table sold for? You can get a brand new Diamond for half that amount. We know used GC's go for about 1K to 2K all day long, and used Diamonds go for about 3k or so.

I really don't think this table being owned by Jim Rempe would increase its value in the slightest. I am not discounting how great a player Rempe was at all. I simply don't think a Champion's personal table adds value. Wiley tried to sell the table Earl ran the 11 racks on. I'd bet its still in his house. I would say the same thing if someone found the table Efren slept under when he was a boy. That table also would not be worth 10k.

IMO:)

If it doesn't sell at 10k, the price will come down if the seller is motivated to sell, if not motivated he can pull it. Ultimately the buyer sets the price by making the move. Someone with the spendable income might see value in a table with "personality."

I sort of agree with you....

but on the other hand, an object is worth whatever the buyer thinks its worth, not what the rest of the world thinks its worth.

Pool memorabilia just doesnt have the same value as in other sports.....anything owned by a famous basketball or football player has a ton of "added value"....Kobe's sneakers from his last game would probably sell for $10K.......

I kind of agree too. If I had the space and money to throw away it would be cool to own (like if I had my fantasy pool hall). But as a playing table I would rather a Diamond or a GC).

Why is Jim selling it? Is he in need of funds, given up teaching pool, or updating his equipment? Also, is he selling his cue???

People will line up to pay $4,000 for a Soutwest cue, $10,000 for a custom pool table with some history does not seem like a bad deal.

the only difference is that $4K you put in one of the safest investment you can think of + the pleasure of playing with a top notch equipment.

That table? You might stuck with it forever, not counting the depreciation and the fact it does not play that well comparing to new Diamond. So in all you overpaid a mediocre table that you can't get rid of.

Jim Rempe? Sorry but it's like trying to sell Pete Sampras racket now. And I'm being generous comparing him to Sampras. He's more like a Roddick.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Appleton once try to sell the Predator that he won the World 9-Ball Championship with for like 4K or something, I think he still had that cue :P

^Wow. Rempe is a dyed-in-the-wool HOF'er, and Roddick in his whole career won a single Major.

Not saying the table is worth the $$$, but wow.

In fact, people line up to pay much more for a Searing cue, even if it's fairly plain.

A table though, carries a lot more baggage, an adequate room for it, paying for a good table mechanic, etc. It's really not the same as a cue.

However, those who played this game in the 70s know what an iconic figure Jim Rempe is, so maybe it's not out of the realm.

All the best,
WW
