Anyone else heard about Marco Marquez?

Throw San Jose Buddy in that list, never saw him play, but according to Ernesto, he was a world class player. Sergio G., Lil Sergio, Chihuahita(from Chihuahua), of course the usuals, Galindo, Morro. Anybody know further info on Marco, my dad would like to know since they are good friends. PM would be fine please.

I always wanted to know what ever happend to "Smiley". I think his real name was Ismael (Puente de San Francisco). He and his road partner "Tuna" played real strong (Tuna broke those balls real hard).

Last I hear they were in Texas, but that was many years ago. Anyone know?

Yup, I know them all.

I grew up around all of them. I was houseman at Hard Times Bellflower back in 90' (also houseman at Hollywood Billiards in 91'.

I see Hawaiian Jimmy usually in vegas at the time of the BCA Nationals or APA Nationals, but the others you mentioned I have not seen in many years. Although, Arturo is around every now and again.
I actually seen that Arturo has played in one of the qualifiers for the IPT at Hard Times. There are photos of him there too....He still looks the same!

lol one pocket, I know Arturo very well. We run into each other all the time. Your right, he is a great player and great person. He never complains, just shuts up and plays hard with a lot of heart. He lives in Nor Cal now. He still plays, but very little. In Cali, theres really no tourneys or action, so its hard to stay active in pool.
Yah,he was a nice guy and always willing to teach younger players about the mental aspect of the game.He would scold me when I would lose my temper and say"When you act like that, everybody wants you to lose!"

Wow! By the amount of responses of Mexican players on this thread, it would seem that the Mexican players were tough as nails during this era in the States. :p

Who in your view was the BEST Mexican pool player during this time and why? Since this era is when action was prevalent, would you judge the player's strength on tournament performance or action?

2 of my very good friends.......Ismael (Smiley) Ramirez and Manuel (Tuna) Ayala.... They are in Texas for sure.

Tuna stays in Houston and is a super good player. Ismael is here in San Antonio with me. My running mate.....:D Great player and moves like a ghost. Doesn't get out as much as Tuna as far as putting them together, but gets out every time he is supposed to and playes defensive pool better than almost anyone I know. If you want Pm me Corey and I"ll send you both of their numbers.

Marco is in Mexico with his wife and family and doing fine. He is not nor has not been in any trouble.

Word around Chicago was that he just recently got married to a local woman. Not sure if this is accurate though. Just what I was told.

I think it's a toss up between Ernesto Dominguez and Rafael Martinez for being the best Mexican players ever.

I like Rafael in that one......and many mexican players tell me that Canelo was the best there ever was. But I've never seen him so I can't say for sure.

Great player who beat just about everybody for two years, mostly around Texas. Got hooked on the big H and fell off the map. Last I heard he was still alive and living in Mexico.

He's gonna fight Miguel Cotto next.
