Tony Vs Dennis Chit Chat Thread

I've said it before and I'll repeat it again. I believe that Dennis is kind-of naive and goofy. If Tony would make a ball in Dennis' pocket during his run, Dennis would right away and go grab that one ball and put it on his side. He obviously is doing this to make sure that Tony doesn't mistakenly take is ball when Tony's run is over.

However, I really don't play much one-pocket, so I'm not sure about the established etiquette with this. But I assume that Dennis should stay away from the table and to just verbally remind Tony of the ball made in his pocket after Tony's inning has ended. I don't think Dennis was intentionally sharking, but Dennis quick grabbing his ball to me is just a naive thing, as rude as it appears. I really think that Dennis doesn't realize many of the accepted rules of etiquette.

Agree 100%. The opponent should stay away from the table when you are shooting, unless there is something controversial about to happen (like a close hit) and they need to observe. Other than that, they should be sitting in their chair.

I remind my opponents of that in a "hurry". "Sit your ass down until it is your shot!"

Dennis has played enough pool outside of the Philippines, and in tournament settings, that he should know the protocol by now. Most people don't like playing with all the commotion going on and people and chickens hovering over the table.

I put in my two cents and there it is. I want to thank Daniel at Povpool for streaming the match and as usual doing a fantastic job.

I agree!

If you take a match you don't like, then you suffer the consequences if you haven't negotiated that into the match beforehand.

Personally, I prefer faster pace and don't like "slow rollers". That is one reason I don't like playing one-pocket. Most one-pocket-only players don't like a face-paced game...it takes away the "stall" option from them.

I don't care if the game takes two hours if the players are shooting at a reasonable pace.

Pool absolutely does need a shot clock. There's no way Dennis or his backers would agree to switch it up and start using one tonight though.

If pool is ever going to become a popular mainstream sport like we all hope we will need a shot clock. 30 seconds max for rotation games and one pocket will never appeal to the general public but would get a few more spectators if there were a shot clock on it as well. We also need neutral rackers in 9/10 ball to avoid the arguing and 5 minutes of reracking that happens at some tournaments.

Absolutely, yes indeed --- Also, extensions can not be unlimited. Each player gets 4 or 5 per match, once a player uses all his extensions he can not stop the clock again in that match.

I have things to do tonight, so I can't watch the stream. I guess I'll just wake up in the morning and watch the last four or five games play out.

Somebody said something in the stream chat that I found humorous, but quite true.

It was something like, "BIG guys aren't as fast as little guys". In this game, it might not be the case; however, in most cases, it seems to be stereotypically true.

I'm small and wiry and generally do everything at a fast pace...from walking, running, to playing pool. If I'm playing a BIG guy, I want the shot clock to be at the fastest possible settings. I want to see the BIG guy huffing, puffing, and sweating from getting up and down so fast.

:)

At Derby City and the Make it Happen Accu-Stats tournaments they have shot clocks. Could you imagine a football or basketball game without a clock?

My point is I don't think its fair to Tony.

It's not fair to anybody .. including the game of pool .. It is unethical, unprofessional, immature, un-sportsman like, and focking ridiculous as well ... lol

I don't have a dog in this fight, but not anymore. Hoping now that Tony makes his trick shots today and sends this slow playing shark artist on his way.

Hey Dennis -- How about learning to play professional pool with ethics and integrity instead of acting like a small cheap cheating jackass?

For one pocket. 60 seconds is more than reasonable.

There's really no debate. If someone needs more than that I'd suggest they pick up coloring.

For people who can't get past a B-level, I might suggest the same. There is really no debate.

If it was a sanctioned tournament or something I could see a shot clock. A match like this, no way. This is what they do for a living, so, if they want to take there time, then by God, they should. If I had to guess, Dennis stands to make more off this match than any 1 pocket tournament.
For those saying Dennis should know the shots, well, your just showing your ignorance of 1 pocket. How may times in this match have you seen Tony do something that blew your mind, or Efren? Do you think they just bang into the balls hoping? Hell, no!!! The creativity sometimes is unbelievable. Pool isn't a stagnant game like most sports. Kobe never played a 3 pointer off the bleachers, Mark McGuire never bounced a home run off first base, etc... The game offers an almost unlimited amount of shots. Dennis isn't a one pocket specialist, he is still learning. Yet, he should be required to just jump up and shoot something lol.
And for the record, sharking doesn't exist, but weak minded people, looking for and excuse to lose, do . In pool, generally the spectators are dead silent while a player shoots, but let's say every time Dennis got up to shoot a guy from the crowd started yelling. Is that a shark?? What about everytime a basketball player steps to the free throw line, and the crowd goes berserk, yet he stands in the fire, and shoots, never *****ing or whining about the 1000 people, in front of him screaming and waving shit.
I swear, pool players have to be the most whiny, *****y, pussies in all of professional sports.

Thier is zero chance TC didn't know DO is a slow player and zero chance he hasn't played countless slow players before it's a slow game period

Isn't the average time per game lower in this match than you see in some tournaments?

I don't watch very much OP, but recall seeing games last over 30 to 45 minutes when the balls end up in the kitchen..

IMO, that seems a little low. They get 30/60-seconds in 9-ball. AND - the entire decision is made for you (i.e., you can only shoot at one ball during your turn).

In any event, shot clocks (in all sports) were intended to speed up play and increase scoring. Tournaments also have time restrictions. TC and DO are playing a 4-day event, so it kinda has a shot clock, well - a shot calendar. If they need MORE time, they should've made it 5 days.

On the contrary " Sharking " works and that's why its utilized.

Yep.

And at least he shoots at his damn hole.

Put dennis on a 60sec clock and you are gonna get alotta punts on first down...increasing the game's time.

It only works if you let it. No one is responsible for you missing, or missing shape but you. Period, end of story. If the world is falling down around you, or your opponent took his nuts out and hung em over the pocket, and error is still your fault. This millenial generation of whiners is ridiculous.
