Beating a player on drugs...

"This headlong plunge into the mystic came to a twisted end in a bar in Colorado when, unbeknownst to Massey, another pool player spiked his drink with LSD, the likes of which he had never experienced before.

"I was playing this guy for $50 a game, and all of a sudden I start looking at the ceiling, thinking I could think the balls into the pockets," Massey says. "I had been into all this psychic stuff and I could see how minds do have a certain control over situations that happen, so I started trying to win the game just by thinking positive thoughts."

Yea I did leave that out didn't seem that important lol.

When some one says "I'm at one with the universe"

If you don't know what they are on just off that singular comment you may be sheltered or too young to understand lol

He signed my cue case about 10 years ago, but I'm glad that's one of the few occasions where he left that out.

Meh, I'll take them as they come. I'm not one to knock another's faith even if directed at me, especially in a good way.

Regardless if the son of God or not....the man did love us. Only good can be said about people like that.

Reminds me of the WKRP episode where they had the DJs drink and do tests of their reflexes to show how they slowed. Johnny's got better!
That was the coolest t.v. show of its time. Les Nessman and the turkey-drop is one of the funniest skits ever.

Never meant to knock his faith or anything, it's just not my faith so I don't need that on my case.

Does Adderal help pool players with their concentration? Does it help them focus better? Does it help anxiety? Just curious if pool players take drugs for these issues, to help them have a better chance at winning. I understand that it would do them no good if they do not have the skill within them, without these issues, like fear, anxiety, and other issues (like tiredness).

It's prescribed for ADD so it helps keep your attention on the task at hand if you have ADD. It can help you hyper focus if you don't. Gives you more energy and confidence too. In long sessions can help you concentrate long after you would start fading due to fatigue.

They most definitely can.
Yep. Tell that to all the pro snooker players who were taking beta-blockers a few yrs. back. They would get into a calm, near zombie state and put together huge runs. The powers-that-be finally shut it down. If somebody ever came up with a go-fast/beta-blocker combo they'd get all the pool players dough. Stay up for a couple days and dead-calm at the same time. ;)

I suppose it depends on which drugs a player is using. It also probably depends upon how a player is accomplished with his or her drug of choice.

I read on Facebook about professional players complaining about other professional players using drugs to enhance their game, so I think that is pretty good information that drugs, sometimes enhance a player's game.

My advice is to set a time limit on the length of time that you will play. That's what I normally do. Some of these guys will spot the Energizer Bunny, the orange crush.

The other thing you can do to beat a player on the "extender" drugs is to catch them on their third day. I've noticed that most of them start to fade on the third day but don't bet your paycheck on them failing on the third day. Some of them start to falter on the 2nd day.

But for the most part, I would wait until they have been playing for at least 24 hours before attempting to gamble with them.

Hope that helps and hope that information doesn't hurt your wallet.

I furthermore declare my complete absolution of responsibility for the weight of your wallet should you attempt to beat them at their game.

Players on Drugs

In my Neighborhood Poolroom where I grew up (Detroit),there was a Heroin Junkie who used to be nodded-out on the Bench, frequently. If he needed some Drugs, and heard somebody Barking at each other about matching up for a Bet,he'd wake up and offer to play! Nobody played him much, and I wondered why,,because he managed to have enough Money to bet a few games. If he wanted to get High, you'd better not bet him, because he would run out,get the Money and go get High! If all he had to do to get high, was to beat you, you'd better not leave him a Shot with the balls not clustered! I always wondered what he could do if he was sober, and played "Naturally"! If nobody played him soon,he'd eventually go to sleep,un til he needed to get Buzzed-up,again.

Never meant to knock his faith or anything, it's just not my faith so I don't need that on my case.

didn't mean you were knocking bro....more less that i wouldn't refuse a signature based on that if thats what i was gonna get is all.

I don't see why no one has tried to actually prove or disprove that one can play better while under the influence.
There have been some studies and articles written about the effects of alcohol on performance. For those interested, check them out.

Someone that owns a table should set up a camera at their house, and record the following while sober.

1. Dr. Dave's BU Exam.
2. A race to 9 vs the 9 Ball Ghost.
I like the idea. I would try it myself, but I already know from experience what the results would be ... I'm a real "light weight."

Regards,
Dave

PS: For those interested, here are links to the BU Exams and playing-the-ghost player-rating drills.

With your CO base, you could certainly expand research into the weeds;).

Cmon, dr.d! Buy us some, in the name of science!

And chips.

That would be a compelling research project. I'll check with my Dean to see if I can acquire some research funding to support such a noble project.

I like the way you think,
Dave

16 million dollar fighter aircraft ,and the government wants those back home safely. Wonder if those fighter pilots are given anything?
